Besides NBA 2K Playgrounds 2, is there anything else I should consider before the sale ends? Picking up my Switch Lite today and would to get a few games to play.

Decided screw it and ended up blowing all my gold coins to buy Gris, The Messenger, Puzzle Quest and Prison Architect. Not too bad a sale tbh.

So how does DLC work in the switch ecosystem exactly? Got both my kids the switch lite for Christmas and also going to cave and get a regular switch for the TV.

So far all the games I'm getting are physical that everyone will have to share but I'm wondering about DLC??

If I want to get the Zelda BOTW pass or the Smash Fighter pass can I just buy it for my main account on the TV switch and still somehow share to both my kids lite systems? Like if I at least put my account on their lites but lives don't sign in will it let them download and play the extra content?

Late to the party but I picked up Gato Roboto during the sale and I've played through about 2/3rd's of it so far.  It's pretty good, reminds me of Xeodrifter in that it's a short little Metroid like game. Even the main boss of each level is the same with new moves, much like Xeodrifter. Overall for the price it's a great little game that I'm going to be able to burn through in a few sittings.

I also picked up Biolab Wars for .99 after seeing RGT85 on Youtube give some quick impressions. I really have no expectations but it seems like a good little throw back game that I'll probably enjoy.

Huh.  I recently changed my region to Argentina and purchased some codes.  Changed my region back to the US afterwards, and now I can no longer change my region on nintendo.com as I did before.

The option still appears for me.

Hell, i can't even purchase games anymore. The login game, and half the time it fails and remains in a "please log in" state, or it logs me in, shows me the sale price after a few seconds, and no purchase button ever pops up

Is there any way to buy games without physically having my switch? It's scheduled for delivery today but I think the sale will be over by the time I get it.

I don't think so. You can purchase games for a Nintendo ID associated with the Switch without turning it on and when it communicates with q network it will get the games whenever it comes on, but yeah not going to happen unless the Switch is already there with your account.

Humble Bundle Store has their Switch code sale ending at 11:59pm Pacific. They have the big items from the eShop Cyber sale, and a small handful of indies. At least with this option you'll get the full-price gold coins when you redeem the code that you buy from Humble.

Man, the nostalgia that hit when I started up Puzzle Quest was unexpected.  I love that they kept the original music, complete with the victory fanfare that goes on for way too long.

Stuff that's specifically in the Cyber Deals sale ends at 11:59 PM PT, so maybe the other things ending today also end at that time. You should have some time to grab some of the things you're interested in unless you buy codes for the games from Amazon, Best Buy, Humble Bundle, etc.

Can anyone answer this? Trying to figure out how I need to purchase DLC without wasting money

If your TV Switch is your primary console, then your kids won't be able to access the content on their Switch Lites unless they are logged in as you.

Seriously?! Nintendo is going to make me buy three copies of a $25 DLC so my whole family can use extra characters and dungeons amongst our three systems? Whaaaat? That is absolutely insane :(

I'm not always one to "vote with my wallet" but man in this case it REALLY makes me not want to purchase any DLC from them at all.. How can this in ANY way shape or form be considered acceptable? I mean I get them being stingy with sharing full digital titles across systems (It's why I didn't bother going all digital with Switch) but man at LEAST let us share DLC with our family members! Ugh

I have an original Switch and recently purchased a Switch Lite. Yes, digital content on the second Switch has to be connected to the internet to launch digital games from the primary account and it will only be available on the primary account.

I learned this the day I bought the Lite. I was pretty disappointed since I wanted my Lite to be my primary but the missus preferred to use the original Switch and she couldn't access any digital content when I made the change. I ended up reverting my primary account back. I do own a physical copy of Breath of the Wild and the season pass DLC. I can confirm if that is available on an alternate local account on the secondary Switch Lite. Although I doubt it will be.

I agree that it sucks, but it has sort of made me question the need for multiple user accounts. Outside of save files, which can be huge, (although many games still allow multiple save files), what does it really matter that "I" am logged in as opposed to my wife?

If your ok with sharing games with multiple save files with another person then it doesn't matter.

However games that only have one save file available per account, such as Breath of the Wild, can be problematic. Also in my situation, games that contain specific records like Tetris 99, we prefer to have our own achievements tracked on our own profiles.

Speaking of Breath of the Wild. As expected on my second Switch, the primary account has access to the season pass DLC, however the other account prompts a message that the DLC is not available. You are then asked to start the game (without DLC) or to delete the DLC from the console. That last option is a bit ridiculous. Sure enough if you start the game no DLC is loaded.

Yeah Nintendo's approach to DLC kinda sucks.  I bought the fighter pass on one son's Switch, and when they play together, they use his.  He also played through Breath of the Wild and when he was ready for the DLC, I copied his save file to the cloud and brought it down on the other son's Switch so he could play it there (since he had the DLC).  Pain in the ass doesn't even begin to cover it.  It makes me very hesitant to get DLC, my sons need to show they are invested in a game enough to get it.  The fact that Nintendo wants people to buy multiple Switches really isn't compatible with this DLC per console idea, but that's how it worked for the 3DS as well.

I guess their whole thing is they let any user on that console use the DLC so being tied to the system and not a user is better, but it still stinks.

What a crock!

Well I guess I won't be buying DLC then... my kids will be bummed.

Why do you need more than one account? Other than the reasons listed above by other members I can definitely say my wife and kids all enjoy having their own profiles and identities.

IIRC the solution to this would be to assign the Lite as your "primary" Switch, and the TV one would be your secondary.

That way, the kids can access the purchases on the Lite (whether it's connected to the Internet or not, and regardless of who is signed in), and you'll still be able to access the purchases on the TV Switch (as long as you are connected to the Internet and signed in as yourself).

This is what I did and it's correct. This works.

And if I have two kids that each have their own Lite system?

Sorry that is not a fair solution :/

Don't mean to be jumping up and down with negativity in this thread, it just really pisses me off haha

They probably don't do that because the infrastructure to make sure it is only being used on one console at a time is beyond their snail's pace into online features and since they are Nintendo, that can never, ever happen.

Hey guys! First post here. Long time lurker, decided to make me a user in CAG as this topic is seriously one of the best things that happened to me since I bought my Switch (April this year). I wanted to originally get all my games physical, but one thing led to another, and now I have like 100 games in my library, only 10 being physical. Thank you everybody for all the tips about the games in different markets, and a huge thank you Frisky for everything you do here, you are awesome!

Don't know if it is already too late to get some of the discounted games, nevertheless, just wanted to let you know about some of the ones I bought this past weekend and that it was totally worth the price (I believe I got them all for about 60USD total):

  • Hotline Miami Collection (from AR shop)
  • Katana ZERO (from AR shop)
  • Snipperclips (from Target)
  • Mother Russia Bleeds
  • Old School Musical
  • Super Chariot
  • Unravel Two
  • Urban Trial Playground
  • LEGO DC Super VIllains
  • Both Batman games from Telltale
  • Biolab Wars
  • Warp Shift
  • Dead Synchronicity
  • Thumper
  • OlliOlli
  • My Memory of Us

IIRC the solution to this would be to assign the Lite as your "primary" Switch, and the TV one would be your secondary.

That way, the kids can access the purchases on the Lite (whether it's connected to the Internet or not, and regardless of who is signed in), and you'll still be able to access the purchases on the TV Switch (as long as you are connected to the Internet and signed in as yourself).
This is what I did and it's correct. This works.
Yes a few of us explained this via our replies above.

However this will not work in his situation. One, he has two kids and plans to buy three Switches total. Two Switch Lites and one standard Switch. Secondly, he has a physical copies of Breath of the Wild which only contains one save file per account. In addition the DLC is locked to the primary account and is not accessible to alternate accounts. He will need to purchase three separate DLC passes. Lastly, even if he were to workaround Zelda's single save file by having his kids log in as himself on the alternate Switches, it would be really easy to accidentally wipe each other's progress when starting a new game. Multiple save slots can exist in the game but starting a new game will overwrite any existing saves on that profile. Only one manual save file can exist in that profile and the rest are auto saves. Managing three separate saves within the game between three people will be a headache.

Yeah with 3 it won't work and his DLC issue still stands. He's boned basically. Just give his bank account number to Nintendo and let them take all his money. Lol

And if I have two kids that each have their own Lite system? Sorry that is not a fair solution :/ Don't mean to be jumping up and down with negativity in this thread, it just really pisses me off haha
If you're trying to use purchased content across 3 systems... yeah, then you're screwed.

Though to be fair, neither MS nor Sony allow the same with 3 Xboxes nor Playstations; 2 consoles you can make work, but not 3... so it's not like Nintendo is locking their content any more than the others.

The funny thing is I'm surprised that by now Nintendo has not released a GOTY version of Breath of the Wild in retail that contains the game and DLC on the cart.

Most DLC you don't really need to enjoy the game.  BotW is fantastic without it.  The DLC adds to the experience, but there are still a massive amount of hours in the game and it's not like the kids have to know they are missing content.   I think buying physical is the best option for sharing games.  Everyone gets their own profiles and they can manage their own saves.

Of course you could just use the same profile on the systems and just alternate which kid gets all the dlc.  Or more easily don't buy the DLC so there is nothing to manage.

I got way more enjoyment out of the BotW base game than the DLC (though I had a great time with both, honestly).

The extra couple hours of story content and the Master Sword boosting dungeon was fun, but it's certainly not going to ruin the game by not having it.

I imagine the case of one family owning three Switches and needing to buy DLC for all three is a small fraction of the overall user base. If you're spending the money so each child can have their own $300 console, what's another $20 for DLC?

The solution should be some kind of family plan/profile. So you can buy a DLC for its regular price for one user, or buy it for an extra cost, but it lets you download it in the consoles that have the family plan profile. Something like that.

to fight used market, want DLC? buy it... they don´t care how much you paid for the base game...

it´s a very clever way to combat used sales and at the same time games keep their value

Interestingly, I think Nintendo has only done a "Complete Edition" once or twice, or at least the closest thing to it. But it was a special edition 2/3DS bundle of New Super Mario Bros 2 that was only offered at Walmart, which included the DLC, I think a similar thing with Mario Kart 8 on WiiU as well.

(I am not counting something like Fire Emblem Fates, since that special edition came out at the same time as the regular editions. All three paths are included, yes, but no map DLCs. Nor Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Hyrule Warriors DE, since they were released on a different system.)

Sorry if I missed it in everyone's replies... so if I set my son's Lite as my primary system but then log in and purchase the Zelda DLC on the TV Switch he won't be able to access the DLC on his lite with the physical Zelda game unless MY profile is also logged in on the Lite at the same time as his? (Can you do that with a switch?) And his lite will also need internet access to ping home to Nintendo to play the DLC or any digital games I've purchased?

I do game sharing with Xbox and PS4 so i'm used to only being able to share digital items among two consoles but some replies make it sound like i'll have to buy a copy of DLC for every system regardless.

If you make your son's Switch Lite the primary for your account, he will not need to be online to use the DLC and he can use his own account. You will need to use your own account on the TV Switch to access the DLC and it will perform a validation check before using it.

Actually pretty dang excited for those SNES additions. I played Kirby Super Star endlessly as a kid but the other three are games I've always wanted to check out but never have. Breath of Fire 2 in particular is the only game in the series I've never played. Had it on Wii VC but I unplugged the Wii years ago.
