so two days I ordered the cheap aegis defender pack digital code that target.com had for 2.99.  It installed on my switch but it told me I still needed to download the game

I though the expansion pack included the game as well but i guess I was wrong

The reality is that a 64GB card is really not cost effective, and while many games sell very well on the NS, some more expensive games may not. Making a game like the Witcher 3 on a system like this was a HUGE gamble, but it was done well and the gamble paid off. Porting these higher end games down to a sizable limit, when they have none on PS4/ONE is very expensive. As your not moving a lesser game like Panzer Dragoon up to a beefier system, but down to a less capable one, and then hope it is good enough that people are OK with a lesser game.

At the end of the day, this all falls on "N", as they make system they are happy to work on, but the developing community normally doesn't care to. The NS's saving grace is that it is built around a strong mobile chipset, and in recent years more higher end games have been coming to mobile, so that helped the NS. As more and more people care less about physical, it means less chances that higher cards are produced, as it's less likely they sell well enough to off set the cost.

So in the end, the same 50GB game that fits cheaply on a Blu-Ray disc, now has to pay for a more expensive cart, for a game that probably cost more to make than it's full console counterparts(as the game now needs to be shrunk). Who would do that? The answer, only Witcher 3 at this point, and that was for a 32GB card. So unless "N" starts producing tons of games on 32/64GB cards themselves(NEVER happening), that sell well and help bring down cost, don't look for a 64GB card in this gen, or even to many more 32GB ones, as it's just to expensive for most.
Between the time I posted to now, decided to check if there was an update. Looks like the company Nintendo contracted may have developed something back in December that'll allow them to have 64GB cards. So therefore hope that it drives the prices of the smaller ones down. (I think the 8GB is the same price as a standard Blu-Ray last I checked. Hopefully the potential news means that it'll bring the 16GB down closer to that price point.)

But I also think you're right for the most part, and to also add in another reason, the Switch is a 1080p system, so it doesn't need 4K textures and the like. That'll drive down the space requirement a good bit.

Good luck with the refund. I did the same and didn't get a chance to try to redeem the code until much later in the day, and on eShop it was obviously the wrong thing so I didn't complete the redemption. I resolved it by their chat support, but it wasn't easy. I was nice and polite but they didn't want to refund it.

By that time they had changed/fixed the product name on their website to "expansion" and that automatically changed my order history and orders, too. I had three emails that say nothing about expansion, but the representative in chat was insistent that it was my mistake and that I needed to call and wait 3 hours on hold... over there three dollars. There are even reviews about the mislabeling that they couldn't see for some reason.

Ultimately the person I chatted with decided to be nice when I begged to not have to call, wait there hours, and waste someone else's time, too), but getting the full on perp treatment sucked.

These CSR people are dealing with a lot, so I didn't want to be rude so I went with begging. Good luck!

Two of those 2K collections are last-gen series, so 4K isn't a factor in their size issues. It would be interesting if they'd try putting games on separate cards, but that would obviously increase the cost that might make the trilogy bundle $10 or $20 more to do what they say they want. It would be nice if they could be open about the costs and see if a more expensive multi-card bundle would be the actual solution or not.

The US now leads the world in the total number of confirmed cases with a much smaller population than China.
Well, what do you expect with Agent Orange in the White House, everything he touches either dies, goes to jail(or both), why should the country be any different(sad times)!

Really enjoying Slay the Spire... The "ending" leaves me with questions, but don't want to spoil anything....

Also has anyone tried Two Point Hospital?

If you've ever played Theme Hospital, it's made by the same people. But I like it. Switch controls takes some getting used to after playing it on pc.

One Step From Eden is a very addictive game I purchased. It's a rogue like somewhat like a tough as nails Mega Man Battle Network game. It plays extremely quickly, and is a time console exclusive for the Switch (It's also on PC). The story is barely there, as are the characters. The gameplay is fast and the difficulty very hard. Also be sure to look up tips for starting, as the tutorial is a basic movement and how to use your abilities one. I highly recommend it even without a discount, but just know you will lose often. This is before you start getting used to all the powers and cards and such. Between this and my usual 30-40 minute Animal Crossing sessions, my Switch is getting a lot of love right now.

No, you misread what I'm saying. Two Point Hospital was created by the same devs who made Theme hospital on PC and PS1.
Oh that's cool. I thought that game was just inspired by Theme Hospital, not that it had any of the original devs.

I actually misread the post you were quoting, missed the part about Two Point Hospital completely and thought you were talking about the Slay the Spire devs. lol

lol no worries, I should've worded it better.

In a gaming deals thread people should really keep their political musings to themselves.

Difficult to escape the virus talk, but believe me when I tell you nobody in this thread gives two shits about your thoughts on the elected officials in this country.

Thanks.

Is Donut County worth it or should I hope for a lower price?

It's a cute, fun game that's over in a few hours (3 max). Totally worth playing, as long as you know that going in.

This price also matches the lowest thus far - to me, $5 feels like the perfect price for this, but you might have to wait for another drop (that might not even happen).

Yes, it is short but a lot of fun and generally a funny and charming game all around. I bought it for full price on PS4 and don't regret it, for this price it's very much worth it.

I picked up River City Girls on the current eShop sale. Was going to pick up a physical copy, but with trying to avoid going out and the sale going on I went ahead and downloaded it. Having a lot of fun with the game so far, one of the better beat-em' ups I've played in years.

I would buy Bubsy for a dollar. I recently as in the last month or so played the original Bubsy on the Genesis. It's rougher than I remember. Extremely floaty jumps coupled with one hit deaths is not a good combination. Also some of the later stages are just pure mazes. I spent almost 30 minutes on one of those levels with the beavers and got through it by madly gliding across the whole level. Just was a mess. Got to the last level but gave up (beat it long ago though). Just messy. I kind of want to try the newer ones, but would likely only pay a dollar or two. Hopefully they're in a bundle someday.

Noticed that most of the games listed on the webstore with no boxart image are broken links or the fixed version because they seem to keep changing how to list games with numbers or a + or a decimal point in the URL.

What is the best jrpg or srpg on the switch today?
Old: One of the Final Fantasy games from the traditional era (probably FF9)
New: Octopath Traveler (JRPG, also on PC)
Exclusive: Mario + Rabbids (SRPG) or Fire Emblem Three Houses

You can't beat the storytelling and depth & breadth of the old FF games. Octopath has interesting mechanics and is very modern. Mario + Rabbids has a great deal of depth mechanically and a lot of content to enjoy if you do the post-game/sidemissions, plus it's fairly charming with some good funny parts even if the story is non-existent. FE:TH is good -- if you like anime. I don't, so I really only listed it because I know other people enjoyed it. I did not. It's' a solid C+ to me. Even though I finished it, I wish I had never bought it and invested all of that time.

Anyone here played that Momodora game? Saw it on a list of Metroidvania games and wondered how it holds up.
Played through Momodora on PS4 and loved it. It's not long though (6 hours for me with 100% map), so I would wait for a sale.

If you're looking for good Metroidvania, Bloodstained is the best I've played in ages. Put 35 hours into that one. You start out weak, but by the end you are death incarnate. Not sure how Switch performance is these days. I played on PS4.

Thanks for the great reply. What is xenoblade chronicles 2? Is it actionrpg?

XC2 is actionish, but it's more like FF12. It's kind of MMOish. I...didn't like it much. The characters do auto-attacks that you watch until abilities are enabled that don't have a lot of robustness to them IMO. It's also very anime (are you sensing a theme of stuff I don't like?), but a lot of people loved it. It's long and deep. Think huge titties, young plucky protagonists (under 18), and pretty boy villains with disagreeable 'tudes. The setting is pretty cool, but I didn't like the characters much. Combat felt kinda boring too.

I can't believe I forgot Dragon Quest XI S. It's also utterly fantastic. Probably the best of the "new" oldschool JPRGs. But I haven't played it yet. Can't afford to buy the switch version ATM. But I adored the PS4 version a year and a half ago.

If you play DQXIS make sure you turn harder monsters on. It's way too boring on the standard difficulty setting. You can turn it off for the last third of the game where the challenge is actually well-suited, but for the first third (and arguably the middle) the game just doesn't feel right on standard difficulty because you can ignore so many mechanics and still moonwalk through things with ease. With difficulty ramped up, it fires on all cylinders and feels great.

Personally, Xenoblade 2 is one of my favorite games. The combat is only boring if you don’t spend much time with it. It’s a really deep system when you get to learn it. And personally I loved the story. Some people consider the beginning slow but the second half really pays off.

As far as combat, the auto attacks build up your arts and you use arts to build up your specials. Using different elemental specials in the right order does a lot of damage and also can have different effects. Not action rpg but there is some timing involved and a lot of options. I suppose if you don’t like anime at all you might not like it but then it’ll be hard to find any jrpg that doesn’t have some anime influence.

just depends on your tastes and what you’re looking for in an rpg. I couldn’t get into Dragon Quest XI but I recognize its a good game even if it’s not my thing. I’d say look at some non spoilery videos to get a feel for what you prefer.

When I describe a game as anime it has a little bit to do with the visual aesthetic and a lot to do with the themes/writing/tone. For example, I wouldn't describe Studio Ghibli films or Ni No Kuni as anime, whereas I would describe Fire Emblem: Three Houses as super anime. Even within a game the animeness can vary a lot; FFXIV's expansion packs and even individual storylines have dramatically different levels of anime. Maybe there's a better term for it though.

The stuff that really kills it for me is a fixation on youth (often with oversexualization of those characters), insanely unrealistic body proportions, tone that is bizarrely out of touch with the setting's context in a very predictable way, and unbelievable character motivations + behavior. Some examples...

Valkyria Chronicles 2 takes place during alternate-history WW2 complete with nazis, but your troops are constantly blushing at each other over the thought of washing each others' underwear while they on the march to fictional Berlin and passing by concentration camps. Meanwhile characters are declaring yearslong grudges and forgetting them five days later in tsundere bouts of poorly hidden affection. You're never left wondering anything about how the characters feel about each other. There is no emotional or moral complexity.

I wholly agree. I really like Valkyria Chronicles for the gameplay but my eyes roll out of my head when I'm moving a troop and I get a bonus "likes other men" or "nature lover" boost and the story is a relative joke.

The original also had some poor story elements, but it was at least a little bit better than the sequels which just seem to be getting more and more anime with every release... At least the original tried a bit to grapple with the horrors of war. The fourth game is basically a non-stop academia anime. The second on PSP was extremely awful.

It's just so sad because the gameplay is amazing. I wish I could play Operation Darkness again, but I no longer have my 360 or the game.

It's a cute, fun game that's over in a few hours (3 max). Totally worth playing, as long as you know that going in.

This price also matches the lowest thus far - to me, $5 feels like the perfect price for this, but you might have to wait for another drop (that might not even happen).
Ended up getting it yesterday and finished it under 2 hours. Had a blast the whole time. O just wish it wasn't so short

Finally beat One Step From Eden. It is a dangerously addictive game that took over a lot of my free time. It's also pretty flawed especially with the difficulty. The developers are supposedly making a patch to nerf the difficulty a bit. I got very decent at the game and still had issues around the 3rd or 4th boss. Later on they keep adding more and more hard to dodge or maybe undodgeable attacks. Also maybe it's just on the Switch, but I did notice some slowdown when I had too many items. It seemed to happen not all the time, but it needs to be fixed and was fairly consistent later in my runs. It likely puts a memory strain on the Switch in handheld mode. It is a really fun game, but I'm not touching it for a while again. Not only because I have other games, but the last areas are like smashing your head into a wall. I got lucky my last run that I had so many items. This helped as near the end I was totally just dodging attacks and throwing everything I had to win fairly well, and even then I was getting hit an OK amount of times. Also the amount of unlocks isn't a crazy lot, and you will see the same cards often. Frankly it's a flawed good game, and well worth it on sale and after that patch comes out. A 6.5/10 that could be a 7.5-8/10 with the slowdown/difficulty fixes.

The Pinball Arcade has some tables on sale right now. Keep in mind they are slow to update, fix problems, or add new tables. There's no Flip Grip support either. But, these tables (except Stern, and Gottlieb Pack 1) have never gone on sale for Switch before, so if you're looking to bump up your pinball collection:
https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/the-pinball-arcade-switch/#add-on-content

Gottlieb Table Pack 1 - $7.49
Gottlieb Table Pack 2 - $7.49
Gottlieb Table Pack 3 - $6.74

Gottlieb EM Table Pack - $6.74
Doctor Who: Master of Time - $2.61
Alvin G. & Co Table Pack - $5.99
Stern Table Pack 2 - $14.99 (They've changed these packs since the AC/DC table got delisted. If you want Stern tables track down a physical copy to get all 10 tables)

These aren't going to be super fancy and animated like Pinball FX3 has. These are straight replicas of classic real-world tables.
