I have one voucher left and the only games that I don't own yet are the new Paper Mario and Luigi's Mansion. Any input on which has more replayability? I've seen the multi-player for Luigi and it's not really something I would invest a ton of time in.
I’m not sure how much replayability either game has honestly. I enjoyed my time with Luigi’s Mansion, and so far I’m having a good time with Paper Mario. The How Long to Beat for Luigi is 20 1/2 hours for completionist but does have the multiplayer aspect, and Origami King is 40 hours for completion but nothing for multiplayer.

Both games are great (at least the 12 or so hours of Paper Mario I've played) but I wouldn't call either game super replayable. I'm not a good judge though since replayability means absolutely nothing to me.

TLDR Super Mario Maker 2, Mario Collection, or Paper Mario

Agree with the above posters, played through luigis mansion and currently playing through paper mario. enjoyed luigis and currently enjoying paper. both games are one and done imo...cannot see myself replaying either though maybe a little extra time hunting missed ghosts (luigi) or missed collectibles (paper).

for replayability, my vote goes to super mario maker 2 or the mario collection if announced today and the preorder appears before the voucher expires.

if i had to choose, i think luigis mansion will go on sale before paper mario (also brand new release) so paper would be the better use of the voucher assuming you intend to get both at some point.

Not sure what people were expecting for something clearly put out that it wasn't going to be huge or filled with announcements when they sent the tweet out at 12am today. Expected nothing, met those expectations.

SMT news is good news for people wanting those games. Nice to have Nocturne on other platforms, its a good old school rpg.

Atelier Ryza standard and Digital Deluxe versions are 39% off until August 5 in celebration of a sequel announcement.

This is the lowest eShop price yet and is about as far as it goes for digital sales on the Atelier games (topping out at 40%), so this might be the time to jump on it.

Everyone should check out the Japanese version of the Direct Mini. It featured way more stuff, such as Sakuna, Atelier Ryza 2, Fairy Tail, Captain Tsubasa, and some strange train boardgame. Much better than the American one.

How could Nintendo of America deprive us of the knowledge that you can actually plant rice in Sakuna while subjecting us to that garbage WWE trailer?

Mini

Miniscule

Not sure what's the difference.
Yeah, I didn't read their announcement last night, but I did watch the last "mini", which was about 30 mins or so, and showed many different things. And even then, people felt the need to state after the fact it was a "mini", and what did you expect?

So now we had another "mini", that was way smaller and shorter than the last one, so my post was aimed at these being labeled accordingly. Yes, mini is short for minuscule, but something labeled "mini" can be something 1:2, 1:4, or 1:12 scale, and each can still be considered mini, as it just denotes smaller that original. I'm just pointing out that within their own "mini" branding, there seems to be a HUGE divide in regards to what is shown.

So I suggest that they name a direct with a few games and that only last a few minutes, a "Direct Minuscule/Minuscule Direct", so that people who aren't looking for a statement at 12 midnight, for a direct 6 hours later know that this will be lesser, than our past "mini" has been. If people woke up this morning and saw there was a minuscule direct, a few games shown over 8 minutes probably would have been expected. Would the word "micro" or "less than" have made my point clearer? LOL

I know, I was so happy to see the Japanese stream devote so much time to a game that's been such a long time coming. It would have been nice to get more eyes on these niche games to, you know, boost sales.

But, what do I know? My uncle doesn't work at Nintendo.

For those who may be interested in the turn around time currently for Joy-Con repair/replacement, it seems to be about 18 days. I put in the request for one of my sons pairs on the 3rd of this month, and they are due back tomorrow. I'm planning to put the next set in ASAP, so if the turn around time for those are better or worse, I'll report back.

mine was less than 10 days, so I think it is dependent on your servicing company etc. Ours were sent to Syracuse I believe, got them flipped back to me very fast

I got to send mine in right after they started re-accepting them for repair this year. Previous set last year took a little longer

There was no reason to package three trailers together and call it a presentation. I don't blame Nintendo because it seems almost like something to appease the growing mob of N fans that didn't get an E3 this year. That said, as Nintendo cut out the press for communication it feels more like instead of coming directly to their audience they are just communicating a lot less overall.

Can't help wonder if Covid impacted development convinced them to delay any announcements until the work was back on track or not.

mine was less than 10 days, so I think it is dependent on your servicing company etc. Ours were sent to Syracuse I believe, got them flipped back to me very fast

I got to send mine in right after they started re-accepting them for repair this year. Previous set last year took a little longer
Yeah, mine went to California, so that actually helped on the time going, as well as coming back, as it's 2 day no matter what with UPS. I think if I would have gotten these in early, 10 days was probably doable, but my son kept using them, so I kept putting it off. Then once he had to start using his pro controller and using the NS kickstand, I finally said enough was enough. LOL

Even back before covid, the average turn around was about 2 weeks, so even at 10 days or 18, it seems it's going to be more or less. I also lost a day on the return, as the day they sent the label, I had already done errands, or else I would have shipped it out 1 day sooner.

Well, for most of their bigger name games, I'm 99% sure production is the issues, as why announce a Metroid 4 for this holiday, to go up against PS5/X, when you may not have enough of your own systems to sell? Game production requires the cases, carts/disc, sleeve, and not much else, so making the standard editions ain't the problem.

Once you get in to system production, were you need hundreds of parts from different manufacturers, now your in trouble. "N" said back in February I believe that NS production was going to have issues, and a company like this isn't releasing any system selling games, without proper systems to sell, those are the facts. Even CE for certain games can be delayed long term for just 1 item, depending on what it is, and were it is being produced. They like to have systems and CE to go with big titles, and so long as people can't get systems at retail currently, don't expect much more until it does.

If the upcoming Mario 35 rumors are to be believed, depending on how much effort was done, we may see a standard release only. Or if it's more elaborate, and they plan to offer a CE or Mario specific 35 themed Switch or Lite, then those games may not happen as soon as expected either. AC was already in the pipe line when everything went south, so until they can get back up to systems like they had for that release, don't look for any real good announcements until it does. So like the last direct, I expected just a bunch of indie titles and the like, as those games can and will happen if production is having issues or not(as most are digital only anyways).

I think the work probably didn't miss too many beats as people transitioned to remote working pretty quickly.

The bigger picture is probably millions of people out of work, finances being tight, and they don't want to saturate the market with games that won't sell as well as if they waited for things to recover a little. So they push one game at a time and it'll probably be months before we get something else.

I just hope somewhere they have a team working on an Ultimate version of Mario Golf. That's something the system is sorely missing and has been missing from the market for enough time.

Kinda new to the Nintendo scene and was interested in buying some stuff from the eShop. Wanted to see if there were discounted cards available and the only site I could really find was Gameflip. Does anyone have any experience with this site? Specifically I was looking at the $10 eShop cards which they are selling for ~$8.

Good day to be a JRPG fan: Atelier Ryza on sale, Nocturne remake trailer, and SMT V does continue to exist

Didn’t see any significant discounts on Raise and Costco only has $50 eShop for $45. Might just take a chance with the Gameflip website...
.

Just do your research. Nintendo is notorious for locking out accounts that have redeemed codes if those code purchases are later charged-back from the credit company (eg, stolen credit cards).

I've tried researching but can't seem to find anything on the GameFlip website other than their own user reviews. But you bring up a good point - I definitely don't want to get my account locked out. I think I'll just buy the full priced cards and avoid the risk. Thank you!

Atelier Ryza standard and Digital Deluxe versions are 39% off until August 5 in celebration of a sequel announcement.
This is the lowest eShop price yet and is about as far as it goes for digital sales on the Atelier games (topping out at 40%), so this might be the time to jump on it.
Yeah and the season pass is 20% off making it $44. Not sure I want to bite, but it’s never been on sale before. Has story dlc that’s focused on each of the main characters.

Great news for fighting game fans: Fantasy Strike has gone F2P with the complete character roster unlocked. The game is crossplay with PS4 and Steam too. Optional DLC that doesn't affect gameplay is available if you want to support the game.

https://blog.playstation.com/2020/07/21/rocket-league-goes-free-to-play-this-summer/

Rocket League is going free to play later this summer. If you own the game before the big update that's coming, you'll get Legacy status with a number of bonuses:

  • All Rocket League-branded DLC packs released before free to play
  • “Est. 20XX” title that displays the first year you played Rocket League
  • 200+ Common items upgraded to “Legacy” quality
  • Golden Cosmos Boost
  • Dieci-Oro Wheels
  • Huntress Player Banner
If you've played online before today, you get a Faded Cosmos Boost. All of the 200+ common items will be unlocked with the big update if you haven't unlocked them already. It seems like your inventory will also go cross-platform.

For anyone with prior purchases from Qubic games, it appears that this will cost $15 when you add it to your cart. Normally $20.

I guess you're posting so people will share their opinions on it? I view Yoshi's Crafted World is more like a bottom 5 game (among first party). Captain Toad and botw aren't :switch: exclusive. But if you are including botw i'd view it to be at least top 3.

I wouldn't put it anywhere near my top 10 either. Not everyone likes that game.

Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk
I sure as hell didn't, and it's 1 of only 2 Zelda titles I've never completed(satellite & CDi games not with notwithstanding), the other being Majoras Mask. I never finished MM due to some of the games hiccups that got corrected in the 3DS game, so I'm looking forward to revisiting it in the future. I always thought it was a brilliant game, but I believe due to the rush to get it out in the time required, some things suffered. And any game were time is an issue, normally isn't my thing, but this game was really something different in a good way.

As for BotW, I really enjoyed nothing that game had to offer, and that weapon breaking means I'll never play another, so long as that mechanic is kept in place. And the forced motion controls, means it wouldn't be in my top 100, let alone top 10. I played off and on for over a month, as I kept forcing myself to play thinking I was missing something based on the reviews, and I finally realized I was trying to fit the square peg in the round hole, and no matter what, that game wasn't for me.

Same. Bought the super duper edition with all the hype in the world. Played for a couple of hours and never touched it again.

My top 10 gaming experiences so far on the Switch ... I don't care if a game is on other platforms... I mostly play portable these days and other systems have limited options for playing portable.

1. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (including Torna) - Loved pretty much everything about this game. Bought XC1 already, will get to eventually.

2. Zelda BotW - Was all I had hoped for and much more.  I actually bought this before my switch.  The freedom brought me back to the very first LoZ where  you could do things out of order and explore... except here there's a lot more to it.  Getting the house and horses made it feel a lot more like I was living in a Zelda game.  Perfection.

3. Dragon Quest XI S Definitive Edition - A step up from the PS4 version ... and just a glorious game all around.  This is one of the few more traditional that rpg's I still really enjoy.

4. Super Mario Odyssey - This was all around the best 3d mario game of them all.  My only gripe is the ending... but... I can over look that one thing because of how fantastic the entire package is.  The classic Donkey Kong level ... just really hit me in the nostalgia.

5.  Dragon Quest Builders - Action based DQ mixed with Minecraft... not exclusive but was fantastic on the switch.  I played all of the main story and some of the standalone mode.  I own DQB2 and will eventually play it.

6. Cat Quest - Such a lovely fun action rpg lite.  Packed with cat puns and just a really fun progression system... I'm super hyped that the 31st finally sees the physical release of the second game.

7. Skyrim - Sure it's a port... but it has all DLC included along with some Zelda gear.  Totally enjoyed this port and everything it had to offer.  Riding a Dragon was cool.  I have PS3 version with all the dlc but never got around to playing it so this was my first experience really digging deep into Skyrim.

8. ARMS - I wouldn't say it's a game I play much anymore as I haven't made any effort to do the Nintendo Online service, but before we had to pay for the online portion this game was so much fun.  Especially with my kids taking up as player 2 for some us versus the world gaming.

9. Burnout Paradise - Fantastic port and a great open world racing game.  I'm all about exploration in games so mixing exploration with a massive list of scripted races that are triggered at each traffic light (if you want to race) has been great fun.  This could easily move up my list.

10. Langrisser 1 & 2 - So far it's been my kind of strategy.  It's been a surprisingly good blend of FE and Advance Wars mixed with the benefits of squad based tactics.  There's a demo if interested.

...

What no Animal Crossing?  Nope, I burned out on AC after the GC and DS versions.  There just isn't anything fun about those games to me anymore.  Super Smash Bros?  Nope... that's more what my kids love.  It's a great game but just not for me.  There are a lot of games I have to play still... and some I have no interest in.  I'm sure my list will change... but my top 4 ... maybe 5 are SOLID and it'll take a lot to unseat them.  Maybe the next Zelda BOTW game will do it... or XC1 when I get around to playing it.  I didn't dig far enough into Mario Maker 2 for that to be on my list.  Same for many of the other RPG's I've bought like Tales of Vesparia or Ni no kuni.

If you disable motion controls there is only one tiny part of the game that still requires motion controls and it's miniscule: the dungeons that require the motion puzzle. I've been in close to 100 dungeons and I think I've only been in three of those. That said, idiotic that I disabled motion controls but that they are still required in parts of the game.

Weapon breaking is deeply unpleasant at first, but eventually I came to actually like it. I mean, it really does change the way you think about your weapons. You go from hoarding your best weapons to realizing you should just use what you need when you need it and let go of the attachment to specific items. In fact, there's an island where you are stripped of all of your items and have to work your way up from nothing (you get the stuff back when you finish it). For me, it was a really rewarding experience to complete that island and gave me a renewed appreciation of the weapon breaking mechanic.

Still. You've tried it. It's not for you, so I'm not even sure what the point of my post is...

I understand the game isn't for everyone, of course. I have concluded that after trying many of them, I really cannot get into JRPGs. I'm sure people would find this blasphemous, but that's the thing about opinions they're totally subjective.
