This is the problem at the moment: every physical cart I bought made perfect sense before getting the second switch. Now every cart is a mistake compared to digital.

Very few games seem to support online play and even fewer require two unique copies/licenses for "local play" since online play works well enough.

I guess my question is: how is the Mario maker simultaneous online play experience?

Oh, because we can take turns with the cartridge that I already own. The question is what features are we missing out on by not being able to play together at the same time on different switches.

Example: In Mario kart you get to play together but without split screen which is pretty cool.

lol. Talk about a confusing exchange! I meant should I buy a single digital copy as an upgrade from the cart so we can both play together using that digital copy. I'd probably trade in or sell the cart eventually, but I'm not a fan of going into GameStop these days so it'll probably be a little while before I do.

Digital games stop making sense once you get 3 Switches for 3 people in your house the way that Nintendo does family game sharing.  Physical is the only way everyone can play the games on their own Switch, taking turns of course.

Let’s say I bought panzer dragoon remake for 6.49.

I can play it on both switches I own at the same time? Does one of them have to be in airplane mode or something? Which one, primary or secondary.

Yes, they can play at the sametime. One system is primary and the other is secondary. The secondary system has to be online or you will not be able to play the digital games.
 
Just to add. You can also play those games not just at the same time, but together on the same digital license, with each user using his/her own account.

Basically the setup is my switch lite (NSL) is my secondary and my family switch (NSW) is my primary. So we play the same digital purchase (on my account) together with me on my NSL and my kid's profile on the NSW.

This works as long as you are playing with an online feature and not "local" play.

The reason is that the primary switch doesn't need to validate the authorization for the game, but the secondary switch does, so as soon as you start a game with local networking the devices set up an ad hoc network and lose internet and the connection to the Nintendo server, so the secondary switch cannot authenticate the game anymore.

Thanks! I did this through the app/my phone because bestbuy isn't offered through their browser extension. My fault for assuming it needed to be done through the extension... spent an hour figuring that out :wall:

Also took screenshots throughout and wrote down the Trip ID so let's hope it tracks.

the switch that is the primary has access to all the games from any nintendo account. the secondary has to use the account that bought the game and have internet access

 
But wait I had a problem playing a game (a golf story) on my secondary console my profile while my kids were on my primary console playing another digital game using my profile. Both were connected to the internet.

So I suspect that it (Playing the same game on two switches) would work in this combo:

Primary console / not main account
Secondary console / logged into account that bought the game

You are incorrect:

Only A buys a game and installs it on the primary console. Now B logs into A's primary console and can launch and play all of As purchased games

Simultaneously A can log into a different console and play the same game as B

Exactly. Make them kid accounts. Nintendo charged like $0.25 to let you make kid accounts for some reason but the kid accounts can shop from your eShop wallet and need to be authorized by you for every purchase. I don't even think they need any kid email addresses if I'm remembering correctly.
 
The Walmart thread (and Slickdeals) is reporting crazy clearance deals. Switch and 3DS games for $10 and $5 respectively.

It's still not enough to send me sorting through those bins at my nearest Walmart at this time. Mine is far and bad news.

Hmm, local Walmart supposedly has 6+ copies of Tokyo Mirage for $10 but a) I've never found Brickseek's Walmart results to be all that accurate and b) I hate going to Walmarts.  I also own it on Wii U, though I haven't played it yet - don't know if I'll convince myself to go.

Same thing for me.... except the store is 30 minutes away... and I already have the game on WiiU also.

I wouldn't mind getting in on some of these Walmart deals, but YMMV deals always seem to cause me to waste too much time and gas looking to save a few bucks on a game that I'll almost certainly never end up playing.

yeah 30 minutes is kind of far when the deals are plastered all over sd.

 
I happened to be stopping in my local Walmart today, so I checked and as expected, there was no video game clearance. Absolutely massive bin of $5 DVDs, but all the 3DS games were locked in a glass case at a few cents off MSRP, and no Wii U games at all.

Do they HAVE to be kid accounts? I set my kids up using the gmail + trick.

Ending up convincing myself to go and struck out on Tokyo Mirage Sessions, just as I feared. Wasn't a total loss, though, as I found some deeply discounted Need For Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered.

Unless employees are really diligent about keeping things up to date the tag prices you see will rarely be correct for anything on clearance. Almost all the games I buy are just sitting in the glass case tagged with their normal price. Like I actually just came back home with a copy of Street Fighter 30th Anniversary that was $5 but the tag still said $20.

Is there a list online somewhere that tracks what Switch cartridges are still valid to redeem for Gold Coins? I believe that you can redeem the same title more than once, and with all of these clearance WM titles floating around, it would be nice to know what’s worth opening (or not).

Pretty sure carts are valid for 1 year from release date, which can be easily found. I've also had a few titles fail to give coins right after release because the title hadn't been correctly activated for coin redemption.

I’m not sure if this has been mentioned yet but the Ubisoft store hyper scape $10 off code now works for scott pilgrim vs the world. So if you got the discount code when it was available last year you might want to check it out. I checked a few days ago and all the Ubisoft store had was the pc version but now they have the switch digital up. $5 after using the coupon. code expires pretty soon on the 31st
