Yeah, not "bad" in a traditional sense, but for a company that prides themselves on not releasing a game until it's ready, WW for me, was not ready. And the whole time I played it, I thought how little was actually done, and how much they just made the game long with "treasure hunting" in a HUGE open sea. I don't consider that great game design, but short cuts which I was charged full price for. So for me, that's about as "bad" as it gets.
None of that bothers me.

GameCube was a weird time for them, as Super Mario Sunshine was also rushed and was an unmitigated disaster of a game. It controls poorly and is overly complicated as the next Mario game after Super Mario 64. A Hat in Time really shows what that style of 3D platformer could be if it was done well.

Yeah, the GC was the start of the "N" that I no longer had much faith in, as they had stayed their own course come hell or high water and they suffered greatly because of it. The Wii while selling millions, was the end of the road for me console wise, as that system was offered not because they believed it was great, but because they had suffered so poorly from the N64 and GC it was the only thing left they could afford to offer.

It's great to see the NS doing well, from a hardware standpoint, but honestly, the same company of that time still exist(my opinion of course), but instead of making lesser games(which still happens), they now just keep releasing the few good ones over and over. Not really an improvement, but it's moving hardware, so more power to them.

Hey Chris... Arms, Splatoon, Bayonetta, Mario+Rabbids, and Breath of the Wild called. They say "hello".

“Nintendo just rehashes the same franchises”
“This game didn’t feel like a Zelda game. It was too different from the others.”
“I’m so angry they didn’t make a [mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc{ game this year!”

Pick a complaint. There’s something for everyone.

Please expound on the Labo. You’re the only CAG I know that has it yet,,,please do tell...what highlights can you point out?
Thanks Bot

Anyone know what Bleed or Brawl are about?

PS HAppy 4:20!!
So after about half a day helping the kids on and off here's my general impressions:

  • The cardboard is solid but it is cardboard. To build something with some stability like the motorcycle there's lot of layering of cardboard pieces. On top of that there's tabs with rubber bands are unquestionably going to give out and they aren't easy to access. That said, so far the more nuanced engineering like bands don't seem critical to the functionality so even though things get a squishy everything so far (big, house, and rc car) seem to hold the switch and controllers well. It's still cardboard though and dropping the bike or house or whatever could easily do some damage.
  • The process of building is either relaxing or frustrating based on your personality. Every cardboard sheet needs to be prepped by loosening it's folds which is repetitious, necessary, and adds time to any build.
  • The bike game has a tournament and race classes like Mario Kart. If you play properly with handlebars then it feels pretty natural but it's a learning curve to play a pretty basic racing game.
  • Build instructions are absolutely fantastic and my 6 year old could read most of the tips. My 9 year old completed the house with no issues including detailed sticker placement on the key blocks. I helped the 6 year old on the bike and found the build process pretty chill like lego but even after prepping the cardboard not everything came together perfectly.
  • The garage seems just as advertised with a large number of interactive and basic programming blocks. I'm very skeptical a maker will do anything other than something just hipster enough to get a Polygon/Verge article but for kids it does have a unique blend of basic programming instruction and intuitive outputs through the switch and joycons.

Overall I find it pretty great as a maker type toy for my kids and there's gotta be 4-6 hours in straight up build time for each set (the robot looks craaaaazy) but the experiences are pretty shallow. The piano might be novel for a bit and I may mess around and do a bit of home recording but I have a feeling the sequencer and sound modules will be too limited to use in any semi-professional way. That means as an adult this is much more about relaxing and doing something brainless than actually looking to be stimulated or entertained in the way most people do with a game.

Lots of good info.
It sounds like th garage would be perfect for my 6 year old’s school. They have a programming class there that he does once a week.

This would also be a good way for me to convert a lot of Gamestop credit into a tax write off.......

I'm just going to drop in to say that if you don't like Wind Waker, you have no soul; Twilight Princess (Wii) is the best Zelda game I've played (though I haven't played SS or BotW yet); Ocarina of Time is the worst 3D Zelda (though still better than any 2D Zelda); and Phantom Hourglass is the best 2D Zelda by far.

You may all sputter in indignant outrage now.

I like all the 3D Zelda's except Majora's Mask. The time thing gave me insane anxiety.

Never finished OOT even though it is my favorite. Never finished Wind Waker. Never played Skyward Sword. Still working on BOTW.

Guess I'm not a big Zelda fan, but I still appreciate what I've played.

It sounds like th garage would be perfect for my 6 year old’s school. They have a programming class there that he does once a week.

This would also be a good way for me to convert a lot of Gamestop credit into a tax write off.......
My older son has done tons of programming at this point and this still looks like the best mix of accessibility and depth amongst those options. We haven't explored the insides of each build but there are detailed explanations of the engineering of each as well as overviews of the technology behind it. Plus at least some of the items have additional builds to return to for more content. At this point it looks like well over 10 hours of content per box and my kids have been quite engaged. I think the experience is more personal to them because they built the controls for it.

Great ...very detailed and informative

Do you see future either for you or kids (replay or reconstruction value?)
And do you see this as a experimental new platform(build n play[essentially ANY controller designed])?

Thx brother

Picked up variety pack for Garage.

Edit: Built the RC Car. Had fun scaring my cats. The software is loaded with Nintendo charm.

About $50 with GCU. I'm happy with the purchase already.

I think by the time the cardboard gives out you'll be done with it and there's not a ton of novelty in item for grown up friends the way there was for VR imo. I think the platform/maker space is going to have a few cool winners where people sell kits and instructions on sites like Alibaba but people typically severely underestimate the work of making anything remotely interesting, which is made more inefficient when using a simplified development platform that employs tons of limitations and constraints in the name of accessibility.

I'd think of the variety kit as a collection of 5-20 dollar eshop games of varying quality and complexity that average out to a 6 in terms of game quality and an 8 in terms of overall novelty and experience when you throw in Nintendo's well designed teardowns of each of the builds.

I'll bite. :whistle2:? Looks like someone hasn't played Link's Awakening!

Is the couch co-op for Marvel Superheroes 2 fun for an adult and a child?... or will I regret it?

I'm enjoying the game, but have only played the single player. Looking for a deal on the extra content for it.
Still waiting for a sale on the extra content for Mario and rabbids as well.

Kid and I enjoyed it but it was more of a "get over here and help" kind of thing. But I'm also more of a "collect whatever caught my attention" person and she's more of a "I wanna be so-n-so" and it locks you into certain chars for the missions. Wasn't bad though.

Before the Wii Shop Channel phase one shutdown, I was considering buying some of the "River City Ranson" titles from the JP and USA shops. I'm sure glad I didn't!

Japan will be getting the Kunio-kun: The World Classics Collection on Nintendo Switch, which includes 18 Kunio-kun titles, including the four NES titles never released in Japan. I'm assuming these four will be in english!

And get this: all 18 will have ONLINE MULTIPLAYER!

If you have Wii Shop Channel points, and wanted these games, you may want to hold out and import this collection when it comes out in the Fall.

Check out the news here:

Also, since many companies are releasing their classic titles as stand alone, it seems that the Switch's Virtual Console may be different than the Wii/WiiU approach.

I have a strong feeling that there won't be a Switch virtual console.

It's a season pass that is currently $19.99.
Unless you have the gold edition. I'm still waiting for a sale on the extra content.
No vanilla $22 BBy copy lol, but every bit as fun ! I’m loving ubisoft, IMHO they are a perfect developer for Nintendo, and i rarely like to go outside the brand, even for 3rd party Nintendo stuff....like sony quality is unmatched, so i only buy OEM DS4 etc for the household....but with Nintendo, i think Ubisoft is great

Actually speaking of 3rd party, which brands do you guys recommend for 3rd party hardware/.accessories? In other words, if Nintendo products (like the most incredible switch stand!! I recommend) are sold out or unavailable, which brand do you trust just as much as second go to?

I like all the 3D Zelda's except Majora's Mask. The time thing gave me insane anxiety.

I'm the same way. I've played most of the 3d Zelda games, yet I never finished a single one.

Never finished OOT even though it is my favorite. Never finished Wind Waker. Never played Skyward Sword. Still working on BOTW.

Guess I'm not a big Zelda fan, but I still appreciate what I've played.

If you have a PayPal in that region?
Technically correct since PayPal is region locked. The credit card I have synced to my PayPal account is able to make purchases in non-PAL regions like Mexico, but it won't work in places like South Africa, Australia, or Japan because of the PayPal region locking, not my credit card.

How many times is Rocket League going to be on sale?! At this point I feel like that is just the base price haha

I’m getting very optimistic about Wolfe stein and other FPS after seeing the trailers....like I think this summer I’m going to end up buying a Nintendo Pro controller and at least ONE FPS, like Wolfe stein...and I know it was rumored but after seeing this, and remembering the Wii got black ops, i think we might finally see a new COD on Nintendo (i just hope the title is worth the hesitantly in jumpin back into that)

But MAN, that trailer in the News section is great, and there are so many titles coming !! I’m getting excited about gaming again

It's one of the most popular and best-selling games on the Switch, so they're doing something right.
Yeah, and on top of that, it was free on PS+ which is probably the main reason for it's overall success. It blew up after it was offered free, and the discounts just seem to keep the train going.

Switch online details will be released early next month and the service will be in effect in September.

Here's hoping for cloud saves.

I think Rocket League probably makes most of its money from microtransactions at this point. It wouldn't entirely surprise me if they eventually go full F2P.
