Do coupons from mynintendo stack with sales? I have a Zelda lttp one but then I'm wondering if it will go on sale

Never noticed Yoshi's Wooly World had a price drop. With the new MyNintendo discount (15%, 450 Platinum coins) the price to $25.49. Pretty good price! Glad to finally have something to use a few coins on.

Pokémon Snap finally coming to Wii U VC tomorrow.

This just pisses me off with how tone deaf Nintendo is.  Sure it's cool we are finally getting this, but why now? Why no HD remake?  It's like they go out of their way to ignore their (dwindling) fan base.

No, I did not. But then again I don't have the kind of cabbage to take a flight to DC to see a preview of a gaming console either.

I didn't and don't either. And I never heard cabbage used to describe money before. I like that.

Anyone else get an invite to the Switch preview tour? I am going to the DC one in February.

No, I'm pretty bummed too. I give Nintendo lots of money and I live in one of the tour stops (Chicago). What more need I do?!

On the 3ds eshop there are some Japanese Railway Sim games on sale as well as some Airport Controller games.  Probably other stuff of interest, but no classics.

I always get a kick out of seeing those Japanese railway games. Anyone played any of those? They are a bit too much on the expensive side for me even on sale, but they look interesting at least.

I always get a kick out of seeing those Japanese railway games. Anyone played any of those? They are a bit too much on the expensive side for me even on sale, but they look interesting at least.
Try the demo. I played the Journey to Kyoto demo thinking it would be a pretty relaxing experience but you spend so much time regulating speed and preparing for each stop... cutting power... hitting the brakes at the right moment with the right amount of pressure and then increasing that pressure that it felt a bit stressful since you can't really enjoy the sites and play the game. I wonder if the full game has a spectator mode as I wouldn't mind doing that when not playing each segment of the game... but I'm unwilling to throw $10 at it to find out. I'd probably just be better to use google maps street view and roam around Japan enjoying the sites that way.

I always saw these on the e-Shop, and I love FMV games, so I figured this was a perfect match. Boy, was I wrong.

I tried the demo for one awhile ago, and my experience was much of the same. Your so busy trying to keep track of the 50 things you have to control, that it's moot having the FMV as you can never pay attention to it.

There aren't to many types of games I've played over 35+ years that I couldn't find some form of enjoyment with, or at least see where someone might find the appeal, but these so called simulations, are for sure that type of "game".

Try a demo, and see what you think, as I would like to see if anyone enjoys these rail simulators, as I found it a chore to say the least. Not fun at all.

Pokémon Snap finally coming to Wii U VC tomorrow.

This just pisses me off with how tone deaf Nintendo is. Sure it's cool we are finally getting this, but why now? Why no HD remake? It's like they go out of their way to ignore their (dwindling) fan base.
I'm surprised that there weren't occasional sequels featuring Pokémon from the latest games in new locations; instead we got Hey You, Pikachu watches TV.

The Hori NS accessories information was leaked today, as well as some price rumors and launch titles(Zelda anyway) are being talked about. I'm sure more info will be trickling in over the next 24-48 hours before the presentation actually starts.

And after Thursday's Nintendo Switch announcement ...

I'm seriously hyped for it, I like the idea of a hybrid (if that's what they mean to do with the system)

So I'm considering maybe selling my WiiU and getting it. Let's see what they have in store

Stoked, classes don't start til next week so I'll actually be able to watch the stream. I really hope the $250 MSRP is accurate, if it's higher than that I think the Switch is DOA. I paid less for my Xbox One S, I know Nintendo says they aren't competing directly with Sony/MS, but they really are, since we all only have so much space, money, and time for gaming. They need to be able to capitalize on the hype and if the cost of entry is too high, it won't happen. I won't be getting one any time soon, if I ever do, but I love Nintendo deeply and I want them to succeed.

Yeah, I really hope they can turn things around, but they need some HUGE changes from the top down for that to happen, and I haven't seen much in that regards over the last few years, but time will tell. Me and jr. will be planted in front of Youtube tomorrow at 8pm, and again the following morning. So I hope I see some steps in the right direction(region free, proper pricing, good 3rd party support, quality 1st party games).

Xbox One has been out for over three years. Is that the best comparison you can come up with?

Wasn't looking for an argument. The price of the competition is totally relevant, not sure why you're saying this.

Both current gen consoles (X1/PS4) can be had for around $250 or lower if you look for deals. A lot of people have already invested in one of those platforms, and if the Switch costs too much, it won't sell the way it needs to in order to maintain 3rd party support and be really viable. I love my Wii U, but it was a commercial failure, and Nintendo has to prove to the broader market they won't make the same mistakes. That's really all I was saying.

It's all about perception, and for me personally, I think the competition being priced less or the same is a valid issue. I have a 10 year old, and there is no way I'm buying the NS for him until Christmas, and if he was younger, I would be buying him a cheap tablet with cheaper games, like the Nabi(which I did years ago).

Now that he is older, I get him "N" handhelds and systems, as that is what he wants. But for most consumers at large, I can't see the masses rushing out to pay $250-$400(with accessories and what not), for what is basically a tablet for a child, when high end consoles can be had for the same or less. Plus they both have AAA games that can now be had cheap, so the value is there in spades over the NS.

Maybe "N" will have another "wildcard" with the NS, as they did with the Wii, as anything is possible, but I don't own a next gen system yet, and as of right now, I'm lined up to get a PS4 first, once it can be had for $200 or less. The NS is going to need to do something really great for me to consider that before the PS4, but I could. But they need region free, a proper account that shares games across systems, and they will also need to return to actually making quality games for $50-$60 dollars, and not just spitting out quick rehashes for a quick buck, as most of their recent offerings haven't been worth half that to me personally.

I wasn't either. Just the price comparison.

Is the Switch really even considered a Home Console? It can do both, so it's only partially competing with two other consoles that are halfway through their runs and a market (handheld) which is 95% Nintendo (Vita is dead, right? Do they even still sell them?). The3DS (6 year old hardware) is $199.99, so even at $249/$299, the Switch is pretty good price comparison.

I will probably play the switch 90% handheld and 10% console.

The PS4 and One can be played as a home console AND a handheld? The comparison is just not there. I know its a unique situation, and you could half argue it was the same with the Wii U (handheld...but only within a small range), but this is really two things in one. The One and PS4 can't be played at home and on the train.

I'm unsure on accessories as it comes with two "controllers" and we still don't really know if we can re-use any Wii or Wii U things. Aside from the console and games, you really don't need anything else to get going with two players (as shown with the video).

I guess we'll know more tomorrow as not a ton of info is known. All I can say is I am 100% onboard.

It's cool. Tone doesn't always translate well in forums.

I think the oddest pickle here is that Nintendo will be competing with themselves via the 3DS. If they do come out at $250, can they still sell the 3DS for $200? Do they hold out on a price drop to discourage 3DS sales in favor of the Switch? The recent string of Wii U ports to the 3DS means that Switch ports (Mario Kart, SSB, Yoshi, Mario Maker) are less appealing. Obviously MK8 isn't the same game as MK7 but otherwise, the Switch needs unique games.

Portability is the Switch's greatest strength compared to the PS4/X1, but a lot of people who like home console gaming aren't into handhelds (this website's proprietor, for example), so I don't anyone can predict how much of a selling point that would be to someone who already owns one or both of those systems. Obviously the 3DS is doing well and there's a market for portable gaming, but in terms of being portable, I don't see myself playing the Switch on a bus, it's a little too big from what I've seen for me personally. The 3DS flips open, resumes what I was doing, flips shut as soon as I need to direct my attention to other things. It's very convenient, and the Switch seems to lack that convenience IMHO.

Doesn't mean I don't want one. But if they made a smaller Switch, maybe the size of a Vita, as a handheld only device? I'd be way more into that.

Don't get me wrong, it is a hybrid, but who's going to spend $250-$350 for a handheld? When the DS line can be had cheap, has a quality library, and can truly be taken away from home?

Then, the same argument could be made for using it in the home, why pay that asking price when better systems can be had cheaper? It's a jack of all trades, and master of none.

Maybe I just "don't get it", but to me, this is a Wii U 2.0. It's really just the natural progression of what that was, and what it should have been 5 years ago. I really do hope I'm wrong, as I would love to see "N" get back to making great games and actually offering similar things as the competition(but just offering them with a "N" spin), but they just seem so set in their ways in regards to everything they do.

The 3DS bombed at $250, so I think this needs to be marketed as a home console first, especially when the 3DS is still alive and kicking. Like I said, they're competing against themselves in that regard.

the Switch really is what the Wii U should have been, but design alone wasn't  the problem. There are people who still don't realize the Wii U is a new system and not a peripheral for the Wii, or something like that. Poorly named, poorly marketed, and too expensive out the gate for the more casual consumers that made the Wii such a big hit to begin with. I really hope the new president steers them right (supposedly he was the only vocal higher-up/board member/etc who was against the Wii U).

I want to believe, we'll see if they can pull it off.

$250 is fine.  I paid $50 more for my Vita & 64gb memory card.  I paid $200 for my New 3DS XL and another $15 for it's 64gb memory card.  I think when you come from the handheld world and start looking at this as a Handheld first that does a bunch of other stuff including playing modern console games... that price point isn't too bad as long as they don't do something boneheaded like proprietary memory cards like the Vita had.   I love my vita, ... i mean LOVE IT! But Sony shot themselves in the foot getting greedy over the memory cards.

I just hope we get a really good blend of games.  Sure I want the new Zelda but I'd like a new 2D advance wars or something to really get hyped over.  Zelda I can just get for our super neglected WiiU.

To me I'm beyond sold on the concept.  I have a Vita and PSTV as well as the whole PSP-Go/Cradle/PS3Controller/VideoCables setup.  I know the concept is SOLID and for an old gamer like me is wonderful.  In the end it comes down to the games.  If it has Games I want on day 1, I'm there.  If not, I'll hold out and wait.

Yeah, I wish the new guy well also. Sadly he stepped in to what was left behind(which was a HUGE fuck ing mess), and who knows what he may have been able to change and what he couldn't.

When the PS3 was released, it was actually a really good deal when you factor in the blu-ray player, as most stand alone players where $1000+ at the time. So having the player, and a cutting edge system was great, but since blu-ray was new, the average consumer didn't need the player, they just saw a rather expensive game machine. I see a similar issue happening here.

I agree with gamegrilpocket, this really needs to be pushed as a console first, as promoting the NS as a hybrid is great, but I don't see it doing either side any favors in the end. As it may be considered to under-powered to be a decent home system, or it could also be seen as to expensive for a portable.

The PS3 was a good value for media enthusiasts & gamers but it was still too expensive. Remember, we're talking about an era when a lot of people didn't even have HDTVs. The 360 shipped without an HDMI port and only came packed with composite cables, so blurays were not really a selling point on release. Crazy to think about what changed in a decade! If their gamble on Bluray hadn't worked out, things would be a lot different now (remember those hideous HD-DVD add-ons for the 360?).

A key difference, I think, is that Sony was willing to sell at a loss (MS too) and make up the money in software sales, licensing deals, etc - the long game. Nintendo should have dropped the Wii U to $200 over a year ago, but they refuse to sell it at a loss, and the damned thing is too expensive to manufacture because of the Gamepad.
