I know they would never do something like this because it's a snazzy idea but it would be nice if they did a calendar year birthday theme for the 3DS and they'd send you a code to redeem it. I was interested in them until I realized they all played the same tune and had no special sound effects etc., plus the music that plays is kind of terrible IMHO. If the Zelda theme was actually more than wallpaper, I'd be fine with it.

Since the OG Club Nintendo program shut down, I knew whatever new program they started was going to be garbage.

The reality is, CN first started when the company was doing a lot better financially, and not everyone was looking for a new "free" physical item every month. Now, they have way more people expecting more, for less. For the same reasons every company would rather be 100% "digital" at this point, is the same reason why they will no longer be offering anything worth a damn.

Even to give out a free digital game, would mean that one less person would ever buy it. Of course we all know that if given some decent items, fans would support such a program better over time, but "N" has fallen to Gamestop levels of stupidity in regards to how they view paying customers.

Honestly, it was great to get a freebie game case, or some collectible item every once in awhile for purchasing tons of games over the years, but at this point, my biggest issues lie with how games are being made and presented to the public. Hell, "N" no longer really makes much in regards to gaming that are of interest to me anymore, so the fact that a rewards program that has been recently started, and sucks, is really of no surprise what so ever.

The NX is destined to be more of the same, sadly

That's because GameStop's program is terrible, unless you're a video game reseller. At least MyNintendo gives people a chance, instead of asking for 25,000 points for a pair of socks.
