Come to think about it giving up in the middle kind of feels like how Nintendo treated the second half of the first Switch, hopefully we get several entire presentations soon about what games they've been working on for the Switch 2 in the meantime because so far it seems like squat

Ended up finding an Onn 512GB microSD Express card at a walmart the next county over. I was nearby getting my RealID since my license expires next month. Mission complete, so now I don't need storage probably for the life of the Switch 2. Oddly they had maybe 10 on the peg (locking peg rather than plastic boxes) so I think people just didn't know about them or didn't bother to go over to the isle with them since they also had a few switch 2 cameras. The only camera I've seen up till now was the pirhana plant one (just one of them) so it was cool to see a few accessories. No systems or pro2's anywhere though... even here in rural Alabama the Switch 2 sold out.

Now I just need a good hard case. I found one from RDS Industries that would work for $25 but it had mario kart world graphics across the front so I passed. Don't get me wrong, I love the game and the picture was nice but I want a plain case like I have for my Switch and Switch lite (which work great). It's easier to bring to work or wherever and it not stand out too much.

One gold coin, well spent!

Lol, remember the days of Gold Coins. Though I question if it was well spent if the game ended up being kind of crappy and then stuck in your purchase history? At least now we can hide our crappy shameful waste of time purchases with the whole virtual game card system. Several games I was really happy to hide!

I totally get those that are holding out for more games or whatever for Switch 2 before they dip in. Not everyone is going to be happy with nearly full Backwards compatibility, BC games mostly all getting some performance boosts, and then the short list of launch and launch year titles. Seems like any PS4 gamers that bought into PS5 should at least get it. It's not just about the launch games, it's also about BC. Except here we have Nintendo and all their first party developers.

For myself, it's a massive upgrade and I'm pretty heavily invested into the Switch. I bought the original Switch about 14 days or something after launch and had BOTW already in my hands from Amazon and never looked back. It's been a fantastic 8 years with some of the best RPG's I've ever played and some of the best Nitnendo games ever made in their respective franchises. I'm still using my near launch system, joycons, and pro controller. So I don't have the hardware horror stories of others.

MKW has been fantastic. The BC is fantastic. The Pro 2 is a step up. The switch 2 itself is a massive leap forward for what last gen was panned as this crazy idea to merge handheld and console in an underpowered system. Of course Nintendo is the kings of taking an underpowered system and making great games. It's going to be interesting what else they do with such a leap forward as we have with Switch 2. Already they are still managing to keep the games pretty damned small.

My main warning to those legit folks that are going to get a Switch 2 but are just waiting for whatever reason, beware not all youtube channels are giving out good info. A lot of it is short sighted and misses the point or is just flat out wrong. Even some of my favorite channels have rushed content because (see the views of videos), Switch 2 is pretty much the hottest thing going on in gaming right now. Of course, I get it, it's their job to cover this stuff and get views and make some money... but... maybe don't believe everything from someone who spent an hour or two with a game and is giving you their hot take.

You keep missing me saying "only."

If you are only buying it now for future reasons versus other ones like MKW or whatever.
Then that's just some weird strawman argument. Nobody is buying the Switch 2 at launch and then not playing it, other than scalpers

And I literally address your arguments pretty directly.
Not really, you're handwaving the fact that your entire premise is based on market trends from over a decade ago. Consoles don't go down in price anymore, nor has Nintendo released widespread faulty hardware lately (aside from the original joycons... and they never fixed those during the Switch's life, so early adopting made no difference)

Nor are you acknowledging whether you think it's weird to go into a topic, primarily regarding a system you don't own, and write paragraphs justifying your non-purchase

At least we don't have to deal with ridiculously overpriced storage (Vita, Xbox).

The requiring faster cards stinks from a cost standpoint, but it's future proofing and not half committing like Microsoft did with the HDD in the 360.

I bought it at launch and haven’t played it yet. I bought it on a whim when I found out I could get a preorder in. The idea was to let my other half use the switch 1 while i used the switch 2 like a switch pro. I can afford the console, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a lot of money. If I had the chance at a $200 oled some people were able to get from Costco, I’m pretty sure I’d have done that instead. Not an option for me though

Weren't NES games $49.99 back in the 1980s? $49.99 is about $130 in 2025 according to inflation calculators.

I seem to remember that most NES games were $29.99 which works out to about $90 today, so still more than MKW. The one that was really crazy was Phantasy Star for the Sega Master System, it was either $89.99 or $99.99, can't remember which, but that works out to around $300 today.

PS5 is still struggling to have games  PS3 never seemed to ever be all that great either. Nice 3D Dot Game Heroes you got there, anything else interesting going on?

Astro Bot seems cool though.

What games is PS5 struggling to have? It gets basically everything that isn't a Nintendo exclusive. If you aren't happy with Sony's output this gen that's fine, but it's not like PS5 is missing out on anything out there. It gets full 3rd party support and Microsoft is porting nearly everything to it.

Yea it is kind of funny to still see people doing the whole console wars thing even with Sony getting all of Xbox's games now.

I mean I get the desire for more first party output specifically, especially if you have a favorite dev or two, but when all is said and done the PS5 is truly not hurting for games for the vast majority of people.

Guys, I say this without trying to cause problems... but as this is an eShop thread, perhaps it might make sense to move "critical discussion of the Switch 2" to a unique thread? It's sort of off-topic...

I mean, I will admit I don't like the price of the system, but I'm not sure how it's helping discussion of eShop releases and Switch-related deals...

Good luck, trying to reason with off-topic people is a losing battle. See the Xbox deals thread (or should I say the Dell/Movie/Politics thread mislabeled as Xbox Deals).

That’s an oversimplification. Dell is important to the thread cause that’s how we get free controllers and Xbox games that dell has.
I have tried to undersatnd the whole Dell thing....but it seems the points expire relatively quickly so I gave up trying to figure it out

NES games would range in price, but they were often $50. The original Zelda was $50 and in came out in 1986. I'm old enough to remember looking at Intellivsion games at Toys R Us before the NES came out and even those games could cost up to $60. Some NES games did retail for $30, though.

I'm not defending higher game prices--I think Elden Ring and Returnal are the only games I've paid $60 for and I'll never pay more than that for anything--but new game prices have almost always hovered in the $50-60 range.
