Nintendo only made 1 mistake with the Wii launch...

They should have offered one free download or a certain amount of points IMO.

I am pretty sure Super Mario 64 is on almost everyones list as a VC download and they should have discounted that 1 title as a "thank you" to Wii owners and to get the ball rolling for VC. (that and make the VC controller wireless).
As for the lack of working online functionality, how long did it take for the original Xbox Live to get a somewhat functional?
But that was three years ago, when online was still new territory for consoles. Leaps and bounds have been made. Microsoft has perfected it at this point. Nintendo dragging their ass last gen should not be an excuse for no online play at launch. Even Sony has their weak service going.

Even if the Wii's internet service was 100% functional, games that included it would be seriously gimped IMO. Some of them could already use another couple months of development (*cough* Red Steel) and trying to include some online multiplayer would render the whole experience bad.

Consider it "Staggered Happiness" - Enjoy the time of the Wii being novel and when that inital luster wears off the WiiConnect24 will reel you back in full force.

First impressions are very important to most consumers, so best for Nintendo to keep everything behind closed doors till they get within 80% of their desired service instead of the 25% that Sony has and Microsoft started out with.

So if the first impression was (Nintendo wasn't ready) then isnt that bad?
So if the first impression was (Nintendo wasn't ready) then isnt that bad?
No one's played a Wii game online, so there's no impression to be had. ;) The point is, temporary lack of online play is better than shitty online play. Their system may be 100% ready, but they would be dumb to test that with 600,000 users jumping on it at the same time. Better to have a fraction of that (Japanese Pokemon Battle Revolution launch) to see how things are doing in case any adjustments need to be made before a heavier load hits.

I think it'll be solid when they get it running. The wi-fi connection took a while, but it's relatively lag free.

I don't need a stupid VC game, i'd rather have support for a USB Keyboard or maybe a non properitary Video port?

There are tons of issues far worse with the Wii.

All the systems have proprietary video ports so how is that a big problem? There will be keyboard support when it's needed for Opera.

PS3 = standard HDMI Port. (AV port is even backwards compatible with ps2)
Xbox 360 = came with component ports
both = standard optical ports

The Component cable fiasco is by far the worst thing about the Wii launch. the Wii launch's biggest mistake by far was assuming everyone had crappy TV's back from 1994. Hopefully Nintendo will change thier ways. oh
well back to wii sporting D:

doesn't the PS3 have a standard HDMI port in addition to the propriatary Playstation A/V legacy port ?

What pisse sme off is that they had to go and make a port for component cables that differes from the GC one - making my current cable useless.

What would make me incredibly happy would be for Nintendo to finally REWARD people who register their games on MyNintendo.com again!

We got the Zelda Collector's Disc from them and that was incredible, but what was that, 3 years ago now?

(Hell, here in Japan if you had a certain number of games registered as of last fall, you got a free Wii TV remote!!)

I've bought and registered 90% of the games that can be registered on their website and I think I deserve some Wii Points at the very least.
Even like 100-200 points per game would be killer.
"Buy 3-5 Nintendo games, get a free VC download".

Its not like Nintendo would lose too much money on the deal.....they're rewarding you with something intangible so there's no packaging/shipping costs to worry about too.
Here's hopin...

No kidding - I bought the Zelda bundle GC 3 years ago and there have been NO offers since then except for the 3 months of NP. I have over 60 products registered and you don't get squat over the 3 you need for the 3 months of NP. Meh... Yet I keep adding them in under some vain hope!

yeah that really sucks for people who bought component cables for the GC. I was almost going to do it, but there wasn't much reason for me to spend so much money since the GC didn't even have many progressive scan supported games on it. I only wish Nintendo would force Devs to allow 480p on all games.

Hit my idea on the head. Go Botticus!
