Nintendo Power 1-Year for 14.99

actually amazon was giving out a year for only 10 when you bought a game. I was thinking of picking up 12 mos with EGM going down.

Nintendo Power has slowly become an awesome magazine over the last two or so years. I've been reading this since the '90s and dear god was it terrible back then.

Now that EGM is dead (and was *dead* for a few years in my mind), NP is easily my favorite magazine.

If I didn't just renew, I'd pick it up for that price.

Nintendo Power has indeed become a quality magazine. I used to think it was good back when it was published by Nintendo, but honestly, since Future took over, I think Nintendo Power is better than it ever has been in the five years or so I've been reading it.

I paid $19.99 for a subscription renewal recently, and at $15, it's a great price. This one doesn't get cheap too frequently. You don't get bonuses like you used to, as those bonuses came from the fact that Nintendo published the magazine, but it's still worth it.

And I have to agree on the negative comments on EGM. I never really liked EGM to begin with, and I liked them even less in the following years after the Wii was announced. I was more of a CGW guy.

Yeah CGW here too.

I got EGM for "everything" else...

though I won't be seeing any xbox or ps3, probably should pick up NP.
I may bite at that price. Although I purchased OPM from them and have yet to receive my first issue. :whistle2:(
I bought a year of OXM from Amazon and got my first issue within about 2 weeks. You might want to call if it's been longer than a month.
BestDealMagazines.com has NP for $11.95. Valid site and price. Been subscribing for 3 years.
Yep that's where I got mine. In fact they were having a sale when I got mine and it was like $7 or so.

I agree with others that since Nintendo Power was purchased it has improved as a magazine. Their reviews were always so biased, now they seem to be quite a bit more fair.

Regarding EGM -- I emailed back in January regarding a replacement magazine for the 3 years still remaining on my account. I was told "You will be notified via mail very shortly with further information regarding a replacement publication." -- so we'll see what happens.

I used to get Nintendo Power back during the NES era after it upgraded from the free Nintendo Fun Club. I quit getting it awhile into the SNES era when I had a Genesis. I got it for a year during the Gamecube era just to get the Zelda Collection. Only way I'd get it again is if there was a cool exclusive extra like that.

Thanks, I just checked amazon I bought it on Jan 2 and it said:
Shipping estimate:January 5, 2009

Delivery estimate:March 23, 2009

That seems quite a ways away. It was the $9 promo deal they had. I guess I'll give it another few weeks.
do these magazines have any extras like posters or cards?
Occasionally there will be a poster. Holiday issue had Castlevania Judgement and Pokemon Ranger posters.

Typically magazine subscriptions take 6-8 weeks to start.

I know many people have had positive dealings with BestDealMagazines, but about a year back I placed a rather large order from them and then forgot about it. Well, long story short, eight months went by and no magazines ever showed up. I emailed their customer support since my credit card had been charged eight months earlier and they refunded my money for me. So, they were honest enough to refund my money, but if I hadn't remembered I'm sure I never would have seen my magazines or my money back.

Same thing with me except I didn't get any magazines or money back. I contacted them several times and they kept saying they'd look into it. I personally won't deal with them again.

That's what sucks about ordering magazines. Even in this day and age they use that 6-8-12-16 week crap as a crutch, and then if you have a problem its too late to chargeback your credit card.

Don't ever buy a magazine from Ebay unless you like dealing with lying theives who like to take advantage of this loophole. I'll take my chances with BestDealMags over Ebay scum any time.

And I just have to say it is surprising for how many people think this is a "deal" at $15. Use MagazinePriceSearch.com and take advantage of significant discounts from Ebates or FatWallet and its pretty easy to meet or beat that. Of course something can be said dealing with Amazon is worth a couple bucks, but I haven't really had trouble with anybody except Ebay.

Game Informer 5.95 at BestDealMagazines coupled with the $2 Edge card is over half off getting them in store. Nice!

The best deal for a Nintendo Power subscription is the latest renewal promotion: you can renew and send a gift subscription for $19.95. I took advantage and gave myself two years for the price.

Ebay hasn't allowed for magazine subscription sales for a long time now, and even if you got ripped off there, your credit card company would have no issue refunding you the money. I purchased something expensive, didn't get it, and asked my credit card company for a refund six months later, and they didn't even ask me for anything. For a $5 magazine subscription, they'll just eat the cost to get you off the phone.

They aren't required to do anything 60 days after you get your statement on it. True they probably would fix it for you, but it isn't guaranteed.

Had no idea Ebay nixed those sales. This was probably longer ago than I think but it seems like about 18 months ago I had a seller who I tried to buy an EW sub from. I told her Time Warner is really picky about who they let sell their mags and I had already bought from a place once that couldn't fulfill. She said she never had any trouble. Well problem is she did end up getting it cancelled and lied to me when she said she checked on it (over and over again). She couldn't just check for sure she just had to be an ass and assume since "nobody" else had any trouble I was going to have to wait at least 6 months before she lifted a finger to help.
how is NP at reviewing wiiware games?
They do a short writeup for WiiWare/Virtual Console stuff, about 6-8 on a page. Each game gets a Recommended/Maybe/GrumbleGrumble rating, not a numeric score.

Yikes, EGM went under?!? First Computer Gaming World, then EGM? That stinks.

Regarding Nintendo Power, I don't know. I enjoyed it back in its early days, and I'm not thrilled to see it sold, though glad Future got it if anything had to. They do some nice coverage of RPGs and whatnot I guess.

The last time I renewed (3/08), I picked up two one-year renewal subscriptions (they stack) for $3.31 each.

This site quite frequently has (or at least, had) coupons that take 30% off. I believe NP was on special + coupon when I placed my order.

I was impressed with this months rpg issue. Interviews with Yuji Hori, and Nobuo Uematsu. Nintendo Power has definitely improved. Despite how casual Nintendo has gone, it's magazine knows it audience and writes for them pretty well.

I heard rumors about future folding up a lot of magazines so I would watch your back with this one, I doubt NP would be included though.

You can get subscriptions to NP for around 10$ from any of those magazine sites out there, or from amazon if you bought a game. I am forever entitled to subscribe to this magazine after winning a Wii from them last year, not that I mind because its a decent read and very cheap too.
