What exactly did you tell them?

Just basically said I was very disappointed with my order taking so long to arrive given when I ordered it, found it "unacceptable". The rep started off with just a measly $10, but by being persistent I got them to go higher and higher. Figured I had nothing to lose from pushing my luck since it wasn't my main order and stock was readily available at other retailers, which I also mentioned handled this much better.

But yea, wasn't an asshole or anything, but I was firm and persistent in expressing my dissatisfaction.

Complain to the chat rep, and they'll actually refund you a bit. Just did the same and I got $40 off. YMMV, but some have gone as high as getting 10% refunded
Expected delivery is Tues June 10th. Target chat rep is offering me 5% ($25) off. That combined with Target redcard 5% off- not bad. I think I would have still preferred to have it this weekend though.
Update: I expressed continued disappointment and asked for expedited shipping. He offered $35 off (instead of $25). I'll take it!!

Maybe I should do this as well since the order has shipped but will arrive a day later than originally scheduled. I will then have to ship it to the person it is meant for which means a longer waiting period for them.

Thanks. I tried it and got $25. I tried asking if they could do better and they said they couldn't so I took it lol. Didn't really want to push any harder

Nintendo sent me an invitation today finally to purchase a system. I already purchased from Walmart. Wonder if stock will dry up this weekend and I should sell it locally for a little more…

My Target order now has tracking and will supposedly be delivered on 6/7.

Picked up a pro controller from Costco today ($75 instead of $85). Wasn't planning to get one, but Switch 1 pro controllers can't wake up a Switch 2.

So you bought a SW2 to play Sw1 games?
This is why I bought it, though I skipped the Switch 1 entirely. After I didn't pick it up at launch, it just fell off my radar and then all the news thereafter about how games were not running well on it made me just opt to wait for a refresh (which of course never happened). Excited to play Switch 1 games that should now be running much better.

Honestly? I don't mean to defend Target, but it's not like it promised delivery by the release date (unlike Walmart) so it's ridiculous that Target is handing out partial rebates. Even Amazon doesn't guarantee receipt by the release dates. Target is just going to get even worse anger thrown at them for doing that from folks like me who are willing to accept that the retailer never made any such guarantee.

Scalpers have been defeated this time so we should at least be happy about that.

It's still too early to know if it's a success or not. Being in stock right now could mean Nintendo stockpiled the hell out of it so everyone can get one. It could also mean that no one except the hardcore faithful wants it. We don't know yet.
my main takeaways:

  1. good job distributing the inventory. but...this was only possible because of +9months to launch. E-commerce has ruined EVERYTHING in this age when it comes to limited drops.
  2. when you eliminate the scalping market like this, artificial supply and demand constraints are immediately cut in half. 'Price memory' is strong; this item will not be flipped for profit now. The market thinks of it as obtainable at msrp: "I will just wait for more to be made".
  3. yeah the hardcore fans ALL got one today, if they wanted. What will demand look like after that? There may not be any. Content creators and public reception are going to dictate that. Now we wait for the reviews. I can't see them being considerably strong, considering the current library. i.e. mostly only bad news trickling out is possible.

Does anyone have a screenshot of the promise because I haven’t gotten my console yet.

Edit: This is for Walmart. I went looking because my Walmart order still wasn't here yet.

Nvm: I found one on reddit.

I pre-ordered the Switch 2 from Gamestop but ordered the pro controller from Best Buy. My Switch 2 is due Friday, but I went by Best Buy today to get the controller, and they had three Switch 2s (Switches 2?) for sale (one was the Mario Kart version). This was about 4:30 pm. I might as well have not pre-ordered, but I guess there was no way to know that. Best Buy didn't have any other pro controllers, though.

Is that real? I don't recall Target ever saying that, or if they did, it may well have been region-specific so that they could be sure to do it because I never saw that promo and I was waiting to preorder on Target's site.

I only remember Walmart mentioning release day delivery.
Same. Walmart made a big deal about that (and other gaming sites reported that guarantee as unique to Walmart); I never saw any other retailer guarantee that. Now it may have been a very limited regional promo - may be where Target has a distribution center nearby but I never saw anything like that on its website.

I'd be careful about using that Target image if it's not real or if Target can figure out they didn't run that promo (assuming it happened) in your area. They might deal with you but your account may get flagged in the process (which could for example mean Target will never accept a return from you again). I definitely know Target does do that; one of my friends over-extended on the B2G1 (i.e., bought items and canceled one to get another one cheaper) and they flagged her account -- closing her Target.com account and she told me they wouldn't take a return later because the system wouldn't allow it "for some reason."

I wonder how to specifically obtain the Switch 2 with Mario Kart Printed on the front rather than a big round sticker on box art.. just think it looks better.

This is definitely not a Wii U situation because I distinctly remember that console not selling out at launch. Switch 2 had a lot of stock available and it has sold out everywhere.

The Wii U sold out at launch, it sold about 400,000 in the first week and was hard to find and sold out at every major retailer. However, it only sold around 3 and a half million units in the first year. Nintendo is projecting to sell 15 million Switch 2's in the first year of the Switch 2 as well as another 4 and a half million Switch's.

A genuine question: is it necessary to get a Switch2 if I already own other handheld gaming devices?

Games at launch for consoles generally are limited and not much, so I do agree not necessary to own any video game console right away. I'm sure you have a backlog a million miles long anyway.

Do I need it? No. Do I want it? Maybe.
I don’t really want to start investing in a new game library, but I do have enough GME credit from the last Series X trade-in promo.

I mean the nice part is the switch library you already invested in will be present on switch 2, so think of it more as a continuation of that library and less about investing in a new one.

Yeah the PS5 launch library was pretty poo poo IMHO as well (only Dark Souls aight), so since I skipped the PS4 Pro, it became my PS4 Pro and I played PS4 games on it after Dark Souls. The Switch 2 is kind of like a pro, so I will be happy whenever I get it. I really want a good showcase game that is purely Switch 2 first like a 3D Mario or a Super Mario Dating Sim ;) .
