Speaking in the aftermath of the Sony revelations at last week’s E3, Yarnton was keen to point out his rival’s complete U-turn in attitude toward motion sensing technology compared to when Nintendo revealed the Wii controller at the Tokyo Games Show late last year.

“I’d love to dig up some old Phil Harrison comments and say ‘hang on a second – six months ago when we launched our controller you said one thing, and now why are you doing this?’” said Yarnton. “I don’t know what their decision making process is but I think if you look back, any innovation that has come in gameplay has come from us.”

The Nintendo UK boss also took a swipe at Sony’s lack of rumble technology in its new PS3 pad, blaming patenting issues for the omission.

“Historically we’re always developing new things. We know Sony have had a lot of issues with their rumble feature and they’ve had to withdraw it – because they didn’t innovate, they copied. With Nintendo, I’m trying to think of anything we’ve copied... but I can’t.”

OH snap!

Oh Snap indeed! 'Dem fightin werds! Looks like someone at Nintendo finally grew some balls and started slinging shit back at Sony. The console wars are heating up! :p

He shouldve just left things alone. They're in a good position as long as Sony and MS are at each other throats. No need to stir things up unnecessarily, especially when most people are aware of the situation already.

It always seems like Nintendo UK people and other Europe reps just do stuff to get noticed. Just leave the smack to Reggie.

i dont see it as a rip off at all, its nothing like the wii it just has a built in tilt motion sensor is all, so ninetindo get the fuck :censored: off sony they took an idea and made it there own. i give them kudos for it to they are allso moving with the next gen phase and watch Xbox will have a motion sensor thingy 2:roll:

It's the nature of the press there. On the political side, news outlets are very openly partisan. In other areas they're snarky and just plain vicious. This encourages interview subjects to get very cheeky.

Well its about fucking time someone over at Nintendo said something. I know Nintendo always takes the higher ground but the whole motion sensor in the PS3 controller was pure bullshit in my opinion. It's funny how a company who isn't competing with Nintendo continues to copy everything they do. It's getting really old hearing will Nintendo go under? They should just produce games for M$...blah blah blah. The thing people need to realize is no matter what technology nintendo uses new or old they make it work because of the software they produce along with the new (old) hardware.

Seriously, if you throw a few periods and commas in the right places, that phrase will make a lot more sense.

Back on topic though, it's about time someone at Nintendo calls Sony out on the obvious.

Microsoft copies everything Apple does in software, doesnt mean that apple will ever have the market share MS does.

Hmmm,

I love Nintendo and all. But, they never copied anything from anyone? I have to think their new C-stick for the cube (instead of the buttons) was in response to the dual analog sticks on the playstation. So, Nintendo does copy too.

I agree though, I do think press people (in general, not just England) say things to be noticed. I think to be in this career line, you have to enjoy saying outrageous things to see your name in print.

I don't really consider the dual shock, and then the GC controller to be copying. That's just an example of adapting ideas in the next progression of product. N64 had an analog stick, Xbox, PS2 and GC controllers extended that by adding a second analog stick.

I just pointed to England there because you rarely hear any disparaging comments out of US and Japanese Nintendo employees about the competition.

So what does this mean exactly? Does it mean that Microsoft shouldnt get called out on it?

This whole post had nothing to do with the marketshare. And everything to do with being called on a complete 180 degree change of direction in a competing companies new controller.

Step 1. Nintendo makes a tilt motion sensing controller.
Step 2. Sony points and laughs at said controller.
Step 3. Wait 1 year.
Step 4. Sony debuts a tilt motion sensing controller.

Sorry, that sounds like a stolen idea to me. Couple that with the fact that literally no PS3 devs other than the Warhawk guys even knew about it, and it's pretty obvious it was a last minute tack on idea. I'd say the same thing is MS came out with a controller like that.

If there was ever any doubt we needed to nuke Ohio, it just went out the door.

Also, juka. Is that really you?

guess what you cant nuke ohio Ohio controlls all the missile silos all around the world its part of Ohio's world domination plan ....lmao:lol:
but really think about it,better games than 360,+wii like controller now thats a winning combo
all so i could say that everyone that uses analog sticks riped off sony, systems like dreamcast, gamecube and xbox all use them.

Talk about biased... I am a huge Sony fan - the PS2 has provided me with hours and hours of entertainment and its library is second to no one. I want a PS3 (but I'm not paying $600 for it) but it is quite obvious that Nintendo has led the way for over 20 years as far as video game consoles and new ideas are concerned.

They were first to successfully implement almost everything that are industry standards today. Take away shoulder buttons, analog sticks, the rumble feature (oops already gone), the diamond layout for the action buttons, start and select which are ALL features Nintendo had on their controllers before Sony and what do you have? Nothing. It's no surprise that Sony would copy motion sensors this generation - they are just doing what they do best.
OK O-KAY I take it back.

We'll just nuke Guam instead.

No one, that's who.
 Ohio: The Heart of It All.

And home to the 1st Church of Reggie.

Over all what i am saying Mario needs to stop being a faq and leave sony alone let em copy,if Ninetindo feels threatend by sony to bad for mario he shouldve stuck to his old job on nes and atari of jumping over barrels that a giant monkey called donkey kong throws at him.
btw i am thinking of changing my location to Ohio,America seems more fitting.

 Damn that Mario and his frequently asked questions. If not for the unintentional comedy present here, you would be the first person on my ignore list. As it is, carry on!

It was either that or say something along the lines of "Juka looks like he drives a Firebird, is 27, and hangs around the high school trying to pick up chicks on Friday afternoons."

A box of cigarettes may or may not be rolled up in a plain white t-shirt sleeve as well. I can't speculate too much.

Aye though. Could just be the angle.

:)

The entire original concept for the Playstation was mooched off of Nintendo . GMAFB .
Yeah like the original PS pad isn't a direct decendent of the Super Nintendo pad .
Some people have never seen the non-analog PS pad .

Wish I had the link to the timeline of controllers for solid snake here. Apparently he doesnt get it that the playstation came out without analog first then after the N64 came out its analog feature was added in..

Here's a rather confusing family tree:

 I didn't realize it was that bad. PSX controller retooled to have analog sticks after N64 controller released. PSX controller retooled to add rumble when the N64 rumble paks were released.

I wonder what percentage of people that play games solid snake represents. I was thinking that the main reason Sony put the sensors in their controller is to make people think it can do what the Wii controller can and therefore people buy a PS3 thinking they can get the best of both worlds. It apparently worked on solid snake, I wonder how many people will fall for that.

i thought that the analog feature was added b4 all that crap what year did the first ape escape come out?
i think that was the year analog was added

If there was ever a controller that was obviously based on the design of the Super Nintendo controller, this is it. Sony didn't even try to hide the fact - I'm pretty sure their motivation went something like this: "We are going to beat you at your own game, and we're going to rub it in your face while we do it!"

In response to the revolutionary Nintendo 64 controller, Sony retooled their own controller to also make it more suitable for the future of 3D gaming

Shortly after Sony's Dual Analog controller was released, Nintendo introduced vibration funtion to their Nintendo 64 controller (in the form of the Rumble Pak). In response, Sony again retooled and refined their controller to also include vibration.

actually if i was making a game system i probly woulda done the same thing to try and attract more ppl.
but i did like the dualshock alot more than the idea of the motion sensor thing.
but ninetindo took the motion sensor thing straight from that boxing game you can play in arcades you know what i am talking about?

you know what else i just found ninetindo had a wireless controller with the nes but then sega,ps1,ps2,Xbox, and xbox 360 made wireless controllers so they all copied i guess and since ninetindo was the first to have analog sticks they copied off atari's Joystick they just shrank it down

I had this when it came out thanks to a BB price mistake .
It's The Duke of PS pads , slightly larger but no rumble .

I don't think solid is attempting to write anymore so much as he's throwing the keyboard forcefully against hard, solid, resistant surfaces.

LOL, I remember wanting to pick up the first analog pad only to find out that it was already discontinued! Then the dual shock came out and and the first analog pad became a distant memory.
