Nintendo: We still hate you (Hard drive, Wii codes, other stuff in interview)
The truth hurts sometimes, friend codes will NEVER go away, if you buy Nintendo, you either live with the friend codes, or don't buy Nintendo. This is exactly the reason why I haven't bought a Wii yet. Nintendo apparently doesn't have their head out of their ass yet, if they gave the public what the public wants, I wouldn't have a problem with it, but this is clearly what the public does not want and they are making excuses to cover up for their moronic ways. I remain cynical about the Wii, but with this kind of attitude, I will never buy one. Or if I do it will be 5-10 years down the line when they are going for 20$ used at yard sales.

Either that or they are making excuses to please the overprotective soccer moms of America, and if thats the audience that the Wii caters to, then I don't want one.

I am an adult, and if I pay 250$ for a console plus games and controllers I expect to be able to use it how I please, not to be governed by the overprotectiveness of Nintendo.

The fact that Nintendo also closed their forums on their website (where even friend code sharing was strictly prohibited) is another prime example of this, they are so worried that other gamers are god forbid going to meet other gamers online that they had to shut down their own forums so there would be no way for that to happen in Nintendo's presense.
So why aren't you selling your DS?

Hypocrite.

And I've made this point before and I'll make it again. How do you know that one of Iwata's or Miyamoto's kids wasn't approached by a predator in Japan? For them something like this could be personal and not about soccer moms.
Not enabling the SD / USB harddrive seems so weird. It could be a totally passive thing other just turning it on. It's gotta be related to DRM-breaking fears.

Friend codes? Eh, they're obnoxious but I've come to expect them.
I posted in a different thread (few months back) about some possible pitfalls to them turning on SD support / HD support.

I have to say that it would be nice if they gave us the option. They'd still need some kind of category / filtering system. Hanging a USB hard drive off the back seems like it'd be the best in terms of speed.

As far as security goes - there's nothing stopping anyone from pulling the SD card out and copying the files. They're locked to your Wii, so it really doesn't do you much good, but I don't see how security factors into this.

My guess might be support. If they turned it on suddenly they'd be fielding calls about failed hard drives (which isn't their problem but it wouldn't stop the calls from coming).

Yeah, so why doesn't nintendo release their own hard-drive for the Wii. It could have their own security protocols in it, plus only be able to be accessed by your Wii.

That'd work. Kinda

The main reason I am not buying a Wii is because I have still not seen one (or more) games that I want to play bad enough to make me spend 250$ on a game system, that and I am a real cheapass with systems.

The DS is fine as there are tons of 2d RPG games that interest me, these games usually aren't the type of games that require multiplayer to be fun, and the games and system costs quite a bit less than the Wii. Not to mention the fact that quite a few Wii games are being released as a DS version as well.
In theory, yes, but I can see an argument by Nintendo that many different aged kids share the system. Not saying I agree, but something to consider. Maybe they could tie friend codes to your Mii.
they already do. for strikers, except they should unify them for ALL games.
