I wanna trade and battle pokemon with my friends and other people, but I have my wireless router set on WPA security settings and pokemon doesn't use this security feature. Also...I have a few laptops set up for WPA settings already and I read that WPA was more secure than WEP.

Just wondering if there was a cheap Nintendo Wi-fi USB Connector out there or if there is another wi-fi USB connector that works like the nintendo one.
 
I don't know of any... the nintendo one is like $30 too which is much more than I'm willing to pay.

I just converted my network to WEP. I dunno how experienced you are with Networking, but it only took me 5 minutes to change the security, restart the router, and update the wep info on my wireless comp, wii, and ds.
 
I have two config files, and I keep both of them exactly the same besides one having WEP enabled, and the other WPA-PSK. When I want to play the DS online I load up the WEP config.

That's the easiest way to do it, I think.
 
Pick up a 802.11B access point, set it up for WEP, wire it into your network and set it up for MAC address filtering to just allow the DS online.

I just found a D-Link DI-524 Wireless router that my sister used in college for wireless in her dorm. She said she messed it up somehow.

Anyway...would it be possible to turn this wireless router into an access point?

The current router I am using for wireless around the house is a Netgear WGR614.
 
Tagging this because I'm in the same situation. I'd really rather not switch to WPA, so I've been searching for a deal on the Wifi USB adapter. Other alternatives would be nice to read...
 
From what I gather, the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector is a softAP made by Buffalo Tech. Being a softAP, it sets you PC in bridge mode, bridging the traffic between the Connector and the internet connection on the PC. That's fine as long as you don't need to access that PC from another PC, because you won't be able to.
 
I got my dlink router acting like a access point which is pretty neat. I guess I don't need to get a access point or that nintendo wifi usb connector. Thanks shrike4242 for the access point idea.

I'm likely to be going down this road shortly myself, as I'm about to change my home network from WEP to WPA or WPA2, as I just needed to pick up some different wireless adapters for my Tivos, so I could go WPA/WPA2. Once I do that and need to get my DS online, I'll be doing the same thing as you did.
 
Any examples of access points that I could use to connect a DS to my wired network for online gaming?

Is a wii set up differently from the DS, or would I have to change it again to get the Wii online?
