You only need one version. All the breeds are in each game, the only difference between each game is the breeds you start out with.

Brilliant marketing by Nintendo, as some people buy the same game three or four times.
 
oh, for reals. . . . . . is there anything special with each like i can only unlock like items in one of them or are they exactly the same with different dogs on the cover.
