Actually I find it to be a good thing. The girl is just bland and I really don't care for Matt as a character or his storylines.
Every time Annie appears on screen, I jokingly ask "Who's that?" She's pretty frequently forgotten on the show, so I'm glad they put her to a good use.
It will be interesting to see how they add the new kid to the show and how his disability is dealt with. I did find it sad that the daughter is more accepting of the new baby's disabilities than her parents apparently are.
You're assuming they'll actually have the baby. A miscarriage is the typical way these things end up on TV, and while that would be cheesy, I just don't see this show doing an extended and sensitive portrayal of what it's like to raise a special needs infant. The average "major change to a character" lasts about 4 episodes on this show.
Although, hey, what's one more kid to ignore?
