No Dolby Digital running PS2 games on PS3?

I posted this problem on the AVS forums and no one was able to provide me an answer, but I've had a few people with Onkyo receivers ask me if I've found a fix because they experience the issue too.

I have a PS3 connected via HDMI to my Vizio VX32L and tolink to my Onkyo HT-S590S HTIB.

I get full Dolby surroun sound when playing Blu-Rays or PS3 games/demos, but I can't seem to get it during PS2 Games. I've tried it with God of War 2 and MGS3: Snake Eater, but I can only get the simulated NEO6 or PLII Logic surround sound.

Any ideas?
 
Yes, very few PS2 games have true surround support.

Vice City with DTS though blew me away.
I was missing so much.
 
Ohhh. Thanks for the help everyone. I was expecting some sort of complicated walkthrough in configuring my receiver, but I guess the simplest explanation works :)
