No internet tax for 4 more years

from what I gathered by the article, this means that we won't be taxed for the internet usage costs (example: the $50 a month I pay adelphia), but sales taxes that apply to purchases made on the web will still apply right (like buying a game from videogamedeals.com)?

Sounds like you've got it.

This is good news for most of you...but seeing as I'll be in college starting in the fall of 2005, it won't affect me. Free internet access is always nice. :D

"Free" as in you don't directly pay the internet provider. Your fees, though, shall cover it!!!

Any company that has a physical location in the state where the purchase is made must charge sales tax on an internet sale. And the physical location doesn't have to be retail, a warehouse, corporate offices, an outhouse.. whatever it is, if its in your state you have to pay tax. As far as I can tell, EB used to have its internet sales as a totally seperate corporation from its retail locations.. thats why they didn't previously charge tax.

Don't make me think of it that way...my way is much more optimistic. :D

I get free internet access for being in school from my ISP. It only goes at about 26kbs though, although they used to have a highspeed (50kbs) line, so I hope they restore that soon.

Not paying taxes is nice, but it isn't going to lower the price of the internet - as long as companies can charge $50 for dsl they will.

Until dial up becomes absolutely FREE for everyone don't expect dsl prices to come down.
