So I have a DS phat and a DSi. I refuse to purchase a 3DS until there are two games I want enough to buy the day I buy the console AND i can get those two games used.

So normally I play on the dsi...but I went home to chicago (going to school in arizona) last week. And today i realized i left my dsi charger there. So when I went to download the ticket needed to download Victini (got my pokemon white in the mail today)...it basically told me NO! YOO CANNOT HAZ.

I first tried to use the wifi provided by my appartment complex. It found it, but failed to get an IP. I then went in the room our router is in. Again, found it, no IP. I walked to the dunkin donuts outside the complex. Their wifi is public but requires entering the password "great coffee". Apparently nintendo doesnt want password protected wifi on their console? It basically told me the security settings werent supported by the DS.

I went outside my neighboor's appartment to mooch their wifi. Connectd, test connection settings....and "(random error number)...cannot connect to nintendo wfc, go to nintendo.com for help...yaddayadda."

So yeah...today is the 10th, i have the game, but because the ds phat is ancient...it doesn't know how to use wifi.

Anybody else have a DS phat and have problems downloading victini?

Or anybody willing to trade me a spare victini for one of the 3 shiny legendary dogs from the recent giveaway? I might also have an extra pikachu colored pichu from a year ago. Of course, again, i'd have to get online somehow to trade. Yeesh.

I think the victini event was extended so you have some time to find compatible wireless internet. Its not the system either its the game, even if you had a DS Lite you still wouldn't be able to connect. It makes no difference whether you are playing on a DS Lite or a DS Phat. The only benefit the DSi gives is being able to connect through WPA security. None of the DS models support connections that require a password or login or a login screen. So even if you had a DSi, unless you can use WPA security somehow, you still wouldn't be able to connect.

It wouldn't be supported by the 3DS either, of course I have no idea if the 3DS supports connections that require a login or a login screen, even if it did Pokemon B/W wouldn't work on it since its a regular DS game which would never support a login or login screen.

Get the ticket via mystery gift, pick it up in the first pokemon center from the mailman, then go to the city with the dock, one of the boats leads you to an island, building in the center contains Victini.

Do you have to get it by going to a store or something?

No you have to use mystery gift to connect to wifi. So you need to use your home Wifi connection or find a public hotspot that works, which is nigh impossible since no DS model supports hotspots that require a login screen and all the public hotspots I have used on my iPod touch require the login screen. Most public hotspots (starbucks, sams club, panera bread) just require you to check a box saying that you accept the terms and conditions, but I am just calling it a login screen for simplicity, you don't really have to enter a username or password. I am extremely lucky that I have a compatible router that will connect to the DS, and just about everything else I throw at it. I am using the westell 7500 from verizon with verizon DSL (3mbps). If you have an old Westell 327W lying around that will also work. WEP security of course. My cousin's time warner connection works with the DS as well but I have no idea what type of router they have and they keep their router unlocked.

The Victini event has been extended to the 27th of this month so you should be able to get it. Also you say you left your DSi charger at home. Why don't you just use your DSi until the battery dies if it hasn't yet. You could also probably either a. borrow a charger from a friend or b. find a DSi charger fairly cheap.

it's dead. none of my friends here at school have a ds of any kind, and i really dont want to pay for another charger just to use the dsi for a month before i go home again when i could just use the phat.

gonna go to barnes and nobel tomorrow and see if it works there.

Whenever I want to use my DSLites online, I have to open my router settings and turn off all security settings, no WPA, no WEP, no password of any kind. Then my DS will find and connect to my network. Then as soon as I'm done I turn the security back on.

Buy a used one at Gamestop. It's a 7-day no questions asked return policy, right? That's long enough to 1 charge in. You could even lie and say it's for your girlfriend's/kid brother's system, then bring it back becuase she told you the wrong model of DS and/or found theirs after all. If you're the sort to be guilty about such things.

B&N wifi has a login screen, so you won't be able to connect. At least the one here does. I've honestly only ever found 2 wifi spots that my DS/DSi could connect to other than my home network, and one of them is probably not available anymore.

If you are desperate I would try driving around and pulling up to local restaurants, some of them here have wifi, and they don't have login screens so you might be able to get on. McDonalds has login screens so that won't work. Also try the library, I don't think ours has a login screen and they have free wifi, it may work for you.

I am sure if you pre order something at gamestop, they will let you borrow a changer for a few mintues.

I think just for stopping by they'd be cool to let you charge your DS if you explained your situation (at least at some of the one's around here where I still have friends working.)

So to get the Victini all I have to do is just start up the game and do the mystery gift? I just got the game as a gift and haven't even opened it/started it yet.
