Nobuo Uematsu leaves Square Enix

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

I'm going to keep my eyes on Uematsu's new company. He's composed some of the greatest video game music ever.

Does this mean he won't score KH2 and other Final Fantasies?? That's like.. half of the game right there. FF's aren't the same without the music.

This probably means they won't be having any more FF concerts here in the states. I was kind of hoping maybe they would do one on the east coast.

Good squarenix has gone to shit recently. I hope with his own company he will be able to create games of the calibur he use to. Unfortunatley most of his games will probably not be released in the US.

He didn't work on the original Kingdom Hearts (those honors go to Yoko Shimomura, also working freelance), and no, this doesn't rule out his involvement in any future games in the Final Fantasy franchise.

Uematsu is freelance now, meaning he can compose music for any publisher, and not just Square-Enix. It's not that big a deal, really, seeing as he can still work with Square-Enix any time he's contracted to do so.

Good luck in his new ventures, I'm sure he just wanted to broaden his expertise and it wasnt happening while sitting around squenix's offices doing music for almost even FF game out there.

I might be misreading this post, but I don't think he's ever created a game himself. At least they never showed it on his G4 special. I thought he just created music for games.

You aren't misreading it, zion just doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about.

very very true, I think I'll just shut up and go away for now. Next time I think I'll read the article first.

Anyhow I assumed the guy made games because I've always found Squaresoft music to suckass.

 Sorry to break this to you..but your taste in music must not be good at all. To say its not your cup of tea is one thing but to say it sucks ass makes you lose total credibility in my eyes at least.

You lost all credibilty in mine when you said you'd vote for bush so now we are even.

Anyhow this is a website you don't have to be "politically correct" all the time, go ahead and bash something every once in a while, you'll feel better afterward.

edit: dammit I said I was leaving this thread didn't I?

Hopefully, Squeenix will still hire him for the FF games, but hopefully more companies will hire him for their RPGs and such. I say good luck to him in his new challenges.

This isn't going to change things much. The majority of major talents composing music for the game industry have always operated independently. That this person has been exclusively under Square's roof for so long is the unusual thing.

I hope there will still be at least some of his music in future Square games.... As well as games developed by other companies.

If not, its a sad day in gaming history.

Uh, I think thats the whole point. It's almost like Miyamoto leaving Nintendo because he's so well associated with Square. But yeah I agree this probably means he'll make music for mroe games, probably high profile RPGs for companies like Capcom and Konami.

How does voting for Bush destroy his credibility?

What exactly I thought when I saw the title.. damn T_T.. his music is awesome. I'm sure he will definately do well on his own.
