Want comics? Read
The War Within. Arguably the most beloved Transformers comic book series of all time. Also, that article is a tad out of date, earlier this year IDW Publishing released the entire series in one paperback for a bit over $20. However, this may be a tad bias, since it is the only Transformers comic book series I own entirely.
If you're solely looking to get in the Movie-verse stuff there are series for that, be it
The Movie Prequel,
The Movie's adaptation itself, or heck, even a sequel to the movie in
The Reign Of StarScream.
In terms of shows well, sadly most of the franchise is out of print in North America, but I'd recommend:
Generation 1: I'd go US Only, since if you include the Japanese G1 Universe you'll need a region free player, and a lot of alchol. Rhino Entertainment release is out of print, but Shout Factory will start re-releasing the show starting in June. The G1 20th Anniversary Movie DVD by Sony is out of print, but easily obtainable.
Beast Wars/Beasties: Well you know. Released in three, or four boxsets by Rhino Entertainment, now out of print.
Beast Machines: Not neccesairly a good Transformers show, or even a sequel to Beast Wars/Beasties, but still a very good show on its' own. Same as above, except two sets.
Transformers Armada - Retooled version of G1, that takes a while to get on. Don't watch if you don't care for Japanese Animation styles. Same as above.
Transformers Cybertron - A series that can be taken as a sequel to the previous Energon (don't watch this one), and Armada series, or as a standalone project. Released in one complete boxset which is in print. Again, Animephobes need not apply/
Transformers Animated - Another retooling of G1, with many homages to G1. Generally heralded by many as a return to form in terms of writing, in terms of art design, well... The three part pilot episodes are available on DVD, as well as DVD releases for the first and second seasons. Both in print. Season three is currently airing on YTV.
Only watch Transformers Energon if you wish to watch the 20th Anniversary show, because it is not a very good series (as its' plot ends at about 20 episodes into a 52 episode series). Released in one boxset. In print.
As well, it may not interest you, but hey, Canada's largest Transformers convention, TransformersCon/TFcon will be held April 24th - 25th in Toronto at the Doubletree International Plaza Hotel at 655 Dixon Road. For more information check
www.tfcon.ca I've never gone there, I always kind of regret not going. Oh well.
Well don't I feel useful
