Now that we know the price, will you buy a PSP?

after all the trouble I had with my older PS2 I think I'm going to wait for at least one price drop and model revision or two.

For an example of how bad a value the so-called Value Pack is, Fry's today has advertised a SanDisk Memory Stick Pro Duo 512 MB for $60.

Let me buy just the PSP with a battery and charge and I'll take care of my own Memory Stick, thanky very much.

OTOH, to get an idea of how Sony's Not Invented Here syndrome has driven up the cost of Memory Sticks, the same Fry's ad has a 1 GB SD card for $50 after rebate.

Theres no doubt I will buy a PSP down the road, but at how much?

I'm sure at $100 or so I can justify buying a PSP if It has about a half dozen or so video games that are must haves. Over the years the number has to increase because games get cheaper and system prices drop. Looks at all the great XBox and PS2 games I can pick up pre-owned for the price of a value meal at McDonalds.

So right now I'm looking at buying a PSP two-three years into It's life span where the system SHOULD be $150 (or even $100) and the hit games shouldn't run me more then $30 a pop new, possibly the lower $20 used.

I was going to buy at $150-$180, but not now. I will wait to see if they offer a standard pack with no accessories in that price range.

As much as my cheapass tendencies want to shine through, I'm a tech-whore, so yes, I'll be getting it at launch.

I have 2 preorders , One at EB , one at Gamerush. Just in case one of them falls through.

The combination of first gen Sony products being defective, with $250 hardware cost and $50 per game software.....Hell no.

I will defintely wait for at least one price drop and for games to get much cheaper and offer me something I can't already play on my consoles.

Ill wait for it, not just a price drop, but for it to be fixed as every other sony console ive owned has. I paid my 300 for a ps2 at launch and then ended up buying 2 more down the line(and i havent bought the PSTwo). I just see that as paying money to be a beta tester and thats not cool. On top of that i own a DS so i much rather spend the money toward software for that and my consoles.

I'll pick up a game or 2 (vampire chronicles, Metal Gear, Gran Turismo), but will wait for getting the system most likely.

Although, the fun, anticipation, and excitement of camping out for it makes it tempting.

Buying one - $$$ already down at Gamerush.

And to those that think $250 is too much... we are cheap ass gamers here - you could have got it much cheaper if you would have just 'played the game'.

I'm getting my $400 Gamerush pack for -- $170 -- out of my pocket.

I'll wait until they sell them dirt cheap...

Hell GBA SP's are just now priced where I actually would purchase one. I haven't yet, because I'm sure the PSP launch will probably warrant another round of price drops on 'em to make shelf-space for DS and PSPs.
wait....you intend on buying a game or two but will wait on the system? that sounds odd.
I do this because sometimes games go out of print quicker then expected. I don't really expect VC to be that popular, so it may not get a big run. MGS beging a card game may also not get alot of people that interested, but who knows. Better safe then sorry and stuck paying ludicrous prices on eBay.

I'm gonna see who's winning the portable war until Christmas and just ask for one then. The price of the system isn't really a problem for me. I've got $300 in my sock drawer specifically for games, I'm more curious about the game's price and how quickly games will fall in price. You barely ever find a good deal on a game boy game that's work it, and I think that's because of the price of cartiges. Is there any chance that this won't happen to PSP games since they play games on a different format?

My answer is no.

I know a lot of people will pick this up but there are too many things swaying me at this point.

The price is too much. I felt the DS was set at a good price point. I don't need the extras which make the system more expensive. It isn't even affordability...it is just more or less is it worth it? I don't need it RIGHT NOW and I'm sure it will drop or come in a bundle-less form down the line. I have an SP and a DS which are keeping me busy.

Although the hardware issues are probably being blown out of proportion I would like to see what happens with these. How Sony will handle dead pixel machines so on and so forth. The comment about the button also ticks me off too because rather than say if there are any problems with the unit they will fix it....they say We made it that way DEAL. That just makes no sense to me. Plus Sony is now known for hardware revisions which improve on the system.

The games look great graphically but what are they really offering? The same stuff I have played on my PS1 and PS2? I think the only games I would be intrested in off the bat are Hot Shots and Spider-Man 2. They don't look too NEW though. It kind of makes the gotta have factor go down for me. It seems a lot of people just want the latest gadget or cool toy rather than something completely new.

I think it will be worth it at some point just not at launch.
