Nvidia 6800 video card deals

Friend of mine just bought the XFX 6800GT AGP video card, largely because it's one of the very few AGP cards with dual DVI and he has two LCD monitors he wants to hook it up to.

Lucky bastard. :p

Anyway, let folks know what he thinks of it, once he gets it up and running.
 
Good deals on the GT's. I bought mine last year (a few months after it came out) for $330. These won't come down in price further until the 7800 GT's come out. well the 6800 is better for higher res stuff with more detailed turned on. the 6600 GT has a faster core speed but less pixel pipelines.

Also remember folks you can unlock pixel pipelines on the 6800 AGP. It will not be as good as a 6800GT but it's a decent performance boost for no cost and all softmodding. I guess you can sort of think of it as turning into a flawed 6800 GT with lower clock speed and less memory.

The GT is just a more advanced line - like, a Radeon Pro vs. a Radeon XT.

6800 is DDR Memory and 6800 GT is with DDR3 Memory with higher core and memory speed.

6800. They have similar fillrates but the 6800 has more memory bandwidth and two extra vertex shaders. Even though the 6800 has slower DDR1 memory compared to the faster DDR3 on the 6600GT, the 256-bit bus on the 6800 causes it to have much more memory bandwidth than the 6600GT which only has a 128-bit bus.

The numbers work out like this:

6800 Fillrate: 3900mpps
6600GT Fillrate: 4000mpps

the math for this calculation:
Fillrate = pipelines * core speed
6800 = 12 * 325 = 3900
6600GT = 8 * 500 = 4000

6800 Memory Bandwidth: 22.4gbps
6600GT Memory Bandwidth: 16gbps

the math for this calculation:
Memory Bandwidth = ram speed * memory bus width / 8
6800 = 700 * 256 / 8 = 22400
6600GT = 1000 * 128 / 8 = 16000

6800 Vertex Shader Units: 5
6600GT Vertex Shader Units:3

Both cards are very good, but the 6800 is faster due to its 256-bit memory bus and 2 extra vertex shader units.

The 6800GT has more pipelines, a faster core speed, faster RAM, and more memory on the AGP side. On the PCI-E side, it is the same except the ram is equal between the two.

when is the 7800GT coming out? i need a new graphics card but i can probably wait for that price drop on 6800GT if it's later this year.

Right now all thats known is the new card from Nvidia has core code G72, which everyone speculates to be a value version of the 7800GTX, but there are no specs on how much slower it's going to be

Definitely more expensive....of course, since I didn't have access online, just nabbed a 6800 GT instore for $427 (tax included)....only to find out the next day it would have been $330 AR. The price to pay for a good card. ;)

In a week or two, but I don't see it making the 6800GT prices any lower as the 7800GT will retail for $499.
 
I just bought my 6800 from Monarch Computer, free shipping and free Lego Star Wars made it a nice little deal for just under $200. Highly recommended.

PCI-E is PCI-Express, and you would know it by reading your computers manual. If you just bought or built your computer in the past 6 months-1 year you may have a slot for that. Otherwise you should probably get AGP which is still commonly used but slightly slower than PCI-E.

As far as I know NVidia and ATi have not made a PCI graphics card in years.

There is no speed difference between AGP and PCI-E in this generations video cards.
