Odd shrinkwrap on GTA: San Andreas

I bought GTA: SA during the 3 for 2 toys r us sale. Then I bought another one at Bestbuy because I just couldn't turn down the Buy GTA, get a GH game for $5 and 2 months of gamefly for $12.

So now, I'm thinking I should ebay one of them (or maybe even both, I never got around to playing it and now I have to play Halo 2).

But there's a potential problem with the shrinkwrap. I just looked closely at the wrapping for the first time, and the one from toysrus has the regular factory shrinkwrap, the kind with folds on the edges glued down. Now, the one I bought from Bestbuy has a shrinkwrap that looks to me like the kind that every store has in their back rooms. The kind where it looks like they just took two sheets of plastic and ran it through the machine around the edges to seal the edges together- you know, the cheap looking kind, the kind local places use to seal up once-opened items.

They both have the hologram sticker entirely intact as far as I can tell, although the toysrus one (the one with regular shrinkwrap) has Rockstar listed on that sticker and the one from Bestbuy (the one with suspicious shrinkwrap) has Take2 listed on the hologram sticker.

Did anybody buy GTA from Bestbuy and get this irregular shrinkwrapping on their copy? If I bought a new game from ebay and it came in this sort of wrapping, I'd be VERY suspicious, so I'm debating whether I need to take this back to Bestbuy for an exchange if I want to sell both copies.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I'd just sell the copy on Ebay and not worry about it, or go to BB and check their other copies.

In both pics, the top game is the bestbuy one with the funny shrinkwrap, and the bottom is the toysrus one with the regular shrinkwrap.

More I think about it, more the bestbuy one is getting exchanged. Even if I were to keep one, I don't want one that's been tempered with in anyway whatsoever. Used to drive me nuts when EB or Gamestop would say "yeah we got a new copy for you" and then proceed to pull out their display copy, sometimes shrinkwrapped in the same, funny way.

The reason they opened it and shrinkwrapped it is to actually put in one of those little black strips for security purposes. They just re-sealed it

I see that makes perfect sence, but they must do a poor job since the copy I got had a security strip on the inside but it was sealed in the TRU style.

I got the old switcharoo pulled on me by an EB in Michigan. I had $40 in credit to spend, so I was checking out Mechassault. The two workers there were seriously hounding me to buy it used. Used copies were only $5 less. The only thing they could offer me for the excess $5 credit was some crappy playstation games, so I told them I wanted a new copy instead. They finally caved in and gave me a "new" copy.

I got in the car, ripped it open and was looking through the manual. Later, I realized that there hadn't been the manufacturer labeling along the top. It was just the backroom plastic wrap put on an open copy of the game. :x The manual and disc seemed undamaged and I had no way to get back to that EB, but it gave me another reason to despise EB B&M (ebgames.com has always kicked ass for new releases, though).

I got mine at Target and it had the odd shrinkwrapping.

I wouldnt worry about it as long as the holographic sticker is intact...assuming I where keeping it but I'd definately check to see if they have any other copies wrapped the same way.

I've personally witnessed a bestbuy dude at the customer service desk re-shrinkwrapping something at the manhattan best buy so I wouldnt be surprised if they resealed it.

I got mine at the West Palm Beach, FL bestbuy, so Bestbuys nationwide must have crappy shrinkwrapping machines.

What is the actual deal with these anti-theft strips and stickers? Are they always put in by retailers? Whenever I see one, should I assume my game's been opened and then resealed?

I got Kingdom Under Fire shipped from Outpost a few weeks ago, and its shrinkwrap had been ripped off and a piece of the plastic torn off of the case. Sticker on top was relatively intact though. Could they have damaged it sticking in the black strip and the square, metal-circuit-looking-pink-sticker that was inside for anti-theft?

These retailers need to realize I don't want their grubby hands opening up my games. My OCDness demands factory-sealed for new games.

My fiancée's family got me Donkey Konga and bongos for my birthday, and the Donkey Konga DVD had both French and English writing on the front. I'm thinking it was a Canadian version. It was purchased at Best Buy.

I think they're all like that.

I moved to Ontario from Ohio and I noticed something interesting about video game companies as far as "Canadian versions" go.

Microsoft doesn't seem to care about being bilingual. I have only seen one Xbox game that even had a hint of French on it, and it was in the form of an extra French manual stuck to the back of the game.

Playstation games are almost all English only. However, games from Square-Enix are almost always English/French, including French manuals and French on the packaging.

Nintendo goes balls out and a large majority of Gamecube games are in bilingual packaging with French manuals.

To throw in my opinion:
I despise the French vandalism of my video game collection. I flat out refuse to buy any game that has French anywhere on it. I only have a PS2, so luckily it isn't a large problem. In the case of Square-Enix games, I simply buy the US version. This is also a huge issue for me with video DVDs and audio CDs. I don't mind a few stickers or extra pamphlets, but every time I look at my Lord Of The Rings box sets, I cringe at seeing the French embossed right in the damn cover and on the discs.
