Offical "Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds" Thread

I was looking forward to this game until it was revealed that it comes with a whopping 6 courses. That's almost inexcusable these days.

Not sure if the Japanese version had it (I don't think it did), but one reason for a delay it seems is voicechat is being added during gameplay, so we can talk to friends.

We will have to have a CAG golf nights. :D

Very interested in CAG Hot Shots. I love this game. If you plan on setting it up I'm in!

I'm in for a CAG hot shots night. We can customize our characters with items we've won can't we (just to make us stand out)?

Is there character customization? I am not expecting anything of Tiger Woods caliber, but I am a huge fan of HSG and want to play dress-up.

Although the players will be different, I may alternate between Hot Shots Golf and Warhawk for a Friday night slot.

Yeah, I will decide what uniforms we wear (well, I'll work with everyone on it, but I'll look into it).

I really like the demo. My introduction to HSG was with Open Tee and while it was good, I found a lot of things lacking in it. The new swing mode and the putting indicator, oh that beautiful wonderful new putting indicator, have made this a day one purchase for me.

See you fuckers on the links!

Destructoid has a good preview up.

... I had a good deal of fun challenging various slightly inebriated challengers, some of which were fairly new to the series. They had fun too, and I think that really speaks to this game's strength. HSG manages to be highly accessible to newcomers, but then it can also be amazingly intricate for advanced ones. I think the social aspect is going to be one of the major draws to this title when it is released next month.

Preordered mine yesterday from Barnes and Noble (who uses Gamestop) since I had a giftcard from them. Says I should have it on the 20th. :whee:

I've been checking out previews and trailers and it looks like I'm going to join the Hot Shots ranks. I'll probably be up for CAG golf night too.

This is a first day buy for me, for sure!!!

I heard the JPN version multiplayer was all jacked up. Somethigng about having to make a tee time and not being able to just pick up and play.??? Can anyone confim this???? That seems like a mistake to me.

The game ships 3/18 and will be on sale for $49.99 at Circuit City next week (arrives on 3/20). You better bet I'll be buying the game.

IGN just reviewed the game and it got an 8.9:
8.5 Presentation
Great, cartoony look to everything, and there are plenty of club and ball options. More courses would have been nice, though.
8.5 Graphics
The characters are very nicely detailed and quite sharp. The courses also look great, though there are jaggies here and there. Fairly beautiful overall, though.
7.5 Sound
The effects are basic but nice, as is the music.
9.0 Gameplay
The new swing mechanic is a nice addition. It's nearly as deep as it is accessible.
8.5 Lasting Appeal
The online stuff works great, and the game is addicting enough to keep you hooked for a good, long while.
8.9
Great OVERALL

I've been playing the Japanese demo since March 07 and playing the Euro demo now. I can't wait and plan to play this online a lot. :D

I most definitely will, but probably not until at least a week or two (so people can get the game throughout the week and assure people unlock something). To an extent, I want to find a uniform for all us CAG members to wear maybe, but we'll see how that goes.

Yeah, I might make a separate thread of sign-ups and have a list of 50 or less people.

No voice chat (bummer) but it's getting good reviews plus it's on sale at Circuit City for $49 so I'll be picking it up anyways. Hoping they'll add the voice chat later if enough people complain.

I am pretty sure I will be picking this up at Circuit City for $50, why not. I will be a HSG :newbie: , so I hope that it is pretty easy to get a hang of. I am definitely down for some CAG Golf outings, but what about the 19th hole?? Hope they have a hot chick in a beer cart in this game, that would be fuck ing sweet!:applause:

by 6 courses they mean 6 courses with 18 holes each right?

For some reason I was thinking for the longest time that 6 courses meant 6 holes.

That's what I'm hoping for. Like how they added voice chat to Puzzle Fighter with a patch.

no voice chat? ohhhhh, I'm not a big time online person but I'm a little bit offended that they left that out.. I mean damn... its just golf... I'm sure there isn't that much online processing happening. while one is golfing. No Mana Knives on the course...

All this talk is getting me interested in this title. :whistle2:k

Never played a Hot Shots, but I got a friend who loved them and my brother plays Tiger Woods. The most time I've spent on a golf title is Mario Golf for the GB Color.

But if everyone else is in for the ride. . . .

As you all can see, I have my Hot Shots Golf sig/avatar up. :D
Can anyone confirm 1080i play with this game? I really want to purchase it, but my TV will only handle 1080i.
I'm waiting till tommorow to pick it up at CC but I doubt it. Do you know what other titles do 1080i?

Can someone comment on the slowdown mentioned in the 1up review.

It seems 1up is the only review to mention it. How bad is it, and when does it affect the game?

I might be wrong, but I've never seen slowdown in any of the Hot Shots Games before.

A bunch of titles do 1080i, there is a full list at the following link:

http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&thread.id=1543693

Some of note are: Warhawk, Rachet and Clank, Uncharted, MLB08
Some of note that do not: Heavenly Sword, Folklore, Motorstorm

I have my doubts for this game, since the Japanese version was 720p only and I think that the back of the box states 720p.

Just wish that Sony included an on board scaler like the 360.

Funny, since Shane Bettenhausen usually gets pegged as a Sony Fanboy.

Here's the quote:
"..and brief bouts of slowdown randomly pop up to wreak havoc on your otherwise lovely golf outings."

http://www.beyond3d.com/content/articles/16/

A lot of it has to do with Europe and Japan not having many 1080i only sets around, so many developers don't think about utilizing it. Devs within SCEA are more likely to use it since they know about many in the U.S. are likely to have a 1080i only set.

I'm being serious because I have many friends who imported it from Japan and said NOTHING about slowdown and nothing about a 5GB install (they said it was 2GB).

Just for the sake of argument, (and I have 5 minutes to kill) I looked up a few PS3 exclusives...

it looks like they changed all their old scores into the A-F scale.
Uncharted, and Ratchet and Clank:ToD both received "A"'s, Resistance an "A-".

Both Ratchet and Clank and Uncharted before the scale change received an 85% on gamerankings; wouldn't that be a "B"?!?! WTF?

Resistance also received an 85%, and now has an "A-"; what's your scale, 1up?

The game is different though. What with the fixed online mode, and I assume there's new "Western" characters.

Uncharted and Ratchet were averaging around 89%-90% for a bit and 1UP gave them an 8.5 (not as bad as GS though), while most other reviewers gave them all 9's. And some exclusives on another consoles, they just flat out gave 10's (some weren't even averaging a 90% or above), but that's a different story before the new 1Up scale (because Resistance got an 8.5).

Anyway, back on topic, I'm planning on going to CC tomorrow, but I can't seem to find on the ad whether the game will appear at a certain time. I want to know because I don't want to go there and them not having it).
The game is different though. IGN didn't mention anything about an install (which PS3 Fanboy did in a preview), so wo knows.

Actually the ad (online) says in small print next to the game that it will be available thursday @ 2pm.

Hey all,
Picked up HS this morning at Gamestop (used the 10% off coupon). It is Classic Hot Shots goodness! I saw no slow down at all and I played for about 2 hours before I had to go to work. I jumped right into challenge mode and played the first 4 "tourneys". The new Advanced Shot mode took a couple holes to get used to, but then I was hitting the shots I intended. The game did require a HDD install and that took about 10 minutes (I went and made a sandwich). I jumped online and customized my avatar (which looks like a Mii) and then entered one of the lobbies. There were only 7 people online and I'm not sure anyone was playing yet, but the online lobby is like a golf course clubhouse and you can walk around and chat with others. I think the game could really use voice chat, but maybe we'll get it in the form of a patch. It seems like a mini version of Home. Can't wait to play online with my fellow CAG's. See you on the (virtual) links!
