I figure this is a good place to ask, since you guys probably have to deal with this a lot, but whats a good way to clean labels on old Atari 2600 games? I can easily clean the rest of the cart, but the labels are proving to be a problem.

Thanks for any help.

Yes, I need to know as well. Are your carts darkened up on the label? It looks as if grease was smeared over it and then left to dry. It looks okay but there are big grey sploches over half of my carts.

It looks like someone spilled beandip directly on the labels.

Thread Title.... Any Yard Salers' who get great deals that live in Colorado? Hmmmmm..... Thanks for the imput, better just ignore my last post. Sorry to disrupt the flow.

Nothing much at todays garage sales. I hit 3 regular sales and one multifamily with about 4 houses.

Nothing video game related at any of them. One lady was selling insustrial electronics and a huge furnace.

Last sale had some old Power Rangers toys but I couldnt make them into a Zoid so I passed as I was sure pieces were missing. That same sale had tons of computer books and most were free so I picked up HTML 4, Flash 5 : Using Flash, Flash 5: AvtionScript Referance Guide, Freehand 9 : Using Freehand and Networking flash cards which totally rock,

Hope you guys did better.

I haven't been to a yard sale all year :whistle2:(

Today, I had to run out to check something for my wife. On the way, I saw a yard sale sign and turned off. From the street I saw a Super Nintendo on a table. As I approached, I saw it was main unit only . . . nothing else in sight. I walked around and saw no other gaming things.

I picked it up to ask about it (thinking I'd offer a buck) . . . "we don't have the cords or anything for that . . . so if you want it you can just have it." So, I left with it. Still thought about giving them $1 but since I didn't know if it worked . . . I didn't.

Got it home and cleaned off a layer of dust and voila it works fine.

The best part is that it is the original model but has no yellowing! . . . Mine has yellowed (the bottom part) quite a bit!

Anyway, if I can find some cheap hookups . . .

when I saw what the first 5 pages of this thread I was like holy cow!!!!...too bad I live in redneckville as all i see in these things are pots and pans and nothing good :(

Question for you flea marketers. We have 1 main flea market near us, and it's a dollar per person admission fee. It was fun to check out once, but we don't want to make it a weekly affair because of the fee.

What I was wondering is, how much new stuff is there from week to week? Most of the stuff we saw there seemed like it would be there every week. Do any of you frequent the same flea market every week, and find new stuff (that wasn't there before) every time, or is it usually just the same old stuff?

I used to hit up mine once every 2-3 weeks, but there was also a professional video game dealer there who would generally have new stuff every couple of weeks, along with some of the other people who sold games that would restock every month or so.
Any (columbus)OHIO yardsailers here?
Cha-ching, it's worth more than the system (plus, it's a great game). It might be the A/V cable and not the system, I'd wait before junking it.

Where I live the flea market is $3 a person, and huge! There are several dealers who are out there ( some own a shop in the flea market, the others rent spaces) The flea market here is like a huge 200 ( bad weekend) to 500 (good weekend) garage sales. There are very few people who go back every weekend so there are always new dealers.

TOTAL Price: $35 SHAQ-FUING (If I may borrow your term) DOLLARS!!!!!!!!

I personally was looking for a Saturn all summer and now I finally got one, so I'm happy. I just need to find an AV cable at Radioshack or on eBay cuz my store doesn't carry that stuff anymore. But the girlfriend also wanted a PS2 for her own (her older bro has one) so it was a tremendous day! Everything works fine, the Ps2 makes a lot of noise when playing blue bottom discs, so it might stop playing them, but we don't have blue discs anyway, and the Jaguar didn't give me any sound but I think that was due to an error in hooking up the system. ^_^

Also, a few hours later I stopped by another yard sale and found another Jaguar boxed w/a game for $15, so I passed. He also had some NES games. I got Dragon Warrior and Time Lord from him for $3 total. The other games he had were TMNT, Mighty Bomb Jack (good game, but my gf already has it), King of the Beach volleyball, and double dribble and maybe one other game.

P.S. I have a tip that you might want to add to the list, evilmax. It's not so much as a tip for saling, but a tip for getting money to do so. I find that my family and my gf's family drink a lot of canned soda, so I collect them and cash them in on Thursday and put the money towards the yard saling fund. It's worked pretty well so far, so I figured I might add it. By the way, your fuckin awesome, evilmax! Great score on the Dreamcast display! *tips hat off to you*

ok are u sure ur not lying getting all that for 35 dollars? i think even grandma wilson knows a ps2 alone goes more than 35 dollars. ????

explain what kind of people u got this deal from seriously.

I too doubt our new friend. Proof? If you did truly find all that for a mere $35 than congratulations but i honestly am having severe doubts about your honesty.

i congradulate you, very good luck, why the hell would he l ie, and why the hell would we care. do you read this thread or do you two monkeys just doubt everything, remeber not everybody knows as much about games as we all do. i mean i passed on a 7800 with 70 games for 5 bucks, so give the guy a break

Great score! I hope you continue to go salin' and post with us in the future. Heh, I haven't seen 1 piece of Jag stuff all season (not a game, not a controller, nothing!), and you see two in one day. The variability of the sales never ceases to amaze me.

Also, a Jag won't power on (or do anything) unless there's a game in it. The carts can be kind of hard to get in, so make sure it's fully inserted and everything.

Added your tip to the OP also!

It just looks too good to be true. I mean come on, its the find of the year! No one on these boards has even come close in my opinion. So obviously I would be a bit wary.
I've always been curious, what does your name mean, moiety? (And how would you pronounce it?)
MOY-eh-tee

In Riven (sequel to Myst), there was a race of people called the Moeity (which I read as "moiety", which is a real word meaning half or part). The name just stuck and I've been using it every since the game came out.

I went to one sale within walking distance and picked up a bunch of shot glasses for 50 cents...iill arrange them and take a pic when my dad brings the camera home

To 111111 and dtarasev: That shit is really fucked up about doubting me and my honesty. You don't know me so don't judge what you don't understand.

To camelking6969 and the rest of the 'salers: Thanks for the backup as it is much appreciated! I regularly enjoy all your guys' and gals' posts.

Now for the lowdown: I was actually on the way to work and passed a giant sign on a car that read "moving sale" 2 blocks from my house so I asked my gf is she thought it was worth checking out (she was driving me since my car is a shitbox) and she said "Sure, why not?" So, we decided to go and as I got out of the car, I said to my gf, somewhat under my breath, "Do u think it's even worth it?" because i saw a lot of kiddy toys and such. She said "let's just check it out" so I said alright fine. As I went up the driveway I said hello to the couple running it. After that, I walked to my left to look at some electronics and spotted the jaguar. I was really excited and called my gf over and told her what it was and I saw the $5 price tag on it w/all the games, the genesis controller, and a sega saturn manual. Since I had work, I went up to the husband and paid him the 5 bucks and asked if he had the Saturn since i've been looking for one all summer. He said he might and went in the house to find it. After 2 min. or so, he came out saying that he couldn't find it but found a dreamcast w/o the "plugs" but he said that he had stuff both upstairs and downstairs so i gave him my # so he could call if he found anything. I said I would be out of work at 6, but the never called.

I decided to go back the next morning since they were holding the garage sale the next day as well (this was yesterday.) As I got out of the car, the wife said "oh hi! I was gonna call you! He found a whole box of video games, but i don't think he found the saturn." I said "oh, I was excited since i've been looking for one all summer." Just as I finished, the husband came out w/a big box of video game stuff. Right away, I spotted the saturn so I got really excited and then I noticed the PS2 sticking out as well. As I looked inside, i found a PSX, and a Dreamcast w/games & accessories for all the systems. The first thing I said was "How much for everything?" The guy examined evrything for a minute and was like "I dunno, $30?" I reached into my back pocket to pull out my wallet and said "Sold!" I said good luck to the both of them and to call if they found anything else to give me a call and they obliged. I got home, tested everything, and realized that the saturn was missing both the ac and av cords and some of the ps1 games weren't in their cases. I went back to the house to see if they had any of the games or the cords. The wife found the games and apologized, and the husband came out with a box of cords for all different electronics to see if i could locate the av cord (i don't think he really knew what items went to what system cuz he brought out an n64 mem card that had a football at the end of it, proclaiming that it was for the dreamcast. I was like " Do you have an n64?" and looked at his wife saying "yeah i think so. That's what you play paper mario on, right? (his question directed to his wife) and I was like yeah it is. YOu might want this then, it' an n64 memory card to save your games and he was like "oh, oops") Nonetheless, I didn't find the av cord, but i found the 3rd extension cable for the ps2 controllers and an extra dreamcast av cord, which he told me to just take the both of them and reassured me that if he found the cord, he would call me. He even offered me $5 back when i 1st told him that the av cord was missing. These people were so nice and friendly so I was like "No way, it's no problem at all. I'll find the cord eventually or I'll just get one off of ebay. He hasn't called back, but I'm not too worried about it. Other than that, he asked if my store sells used games or just new games (I work at Gamestop) and he was like "Are you gona trade them in for cash?" and I said "no way! I collect this stuff for my own personal interest and nostalgia."

Thanks for adding my tip to the post and i realized that at first when i tried to power up the jaguar w/o a game in it and i thought i did something wrong, but then put in a cart and had it work. But i didn't get any sound at all, so i think that maybe it was something that i did. Oh well....
Stuff
Hey, I never called you a liar Im just being skeptical. And as I said in my first post : If you got that stuff then great, congratulations on such a great find. No need to be hostile and I didnt mean to insult you. Because when anyone says the found something so amazing I will start to think wether or not this guy is telling the truth. If you heard that a guy found a 65'' plasma TV for $50 wouldnt you be skeptical as well?

Well you that you were "Having serious doubts about my honesty." So yeah, you basically did call me a liar. But I accept your apology. No hard feelings? And BTW, I don't think I would be skeptical about the whole 65" plasma tv bit. I would be shocked and happy for that person. But I do understand where you are comnig from, as normally it is in my nature to doubt people, but I can say that I trust everyone in this thread and that it is kept in good order thanks to evilmax, moeity, snotknocker, and ther est of the crew. :)

Yeah I didnt mean to make it sounds like that. I mean I remember some people posting things they never got in some other threads. Anyway yeah sorry.

yo man i'm just skeptical dont think it's personal. it's all good IN DA HOOD.

:bouncy:

i cant wait till this saturday hits. imma own some faces.

I've seen some amazing deals on different items saling, some to good to be true, and some quite illegal ( stolen merch.) Some people don't know what they have, some don't care. I had a customer buy a new PS2 at gamestop for $200 and bring it back the next day to get cash because the rent was due ( $100 loss ) . God of the mind's deal does seem to good to be true, but I have seen a lot of that on this board. I don't doubt him, but I am as suprised as all of you on how amazing this deal is.
I have a question: What is this "goodwill" place? Where can I find one? It seems like a lot of you guys get some pretty good stuff from there.
It's basically like a Salvation Army. People donate stuff to them, they sell it and use the "profit" to help homeless people.

http://www.goodwill.org/

Should be able to find one near you there.

Thanks evilmax, I fond the closest one to be about 18 min. from my house so I'll ask the gf if she wants to go. Do you have to set up an appointment to go or do you just walk right in and look around?

So I went to a garage sale last weekend and picked up the following:

NES satellite
Snes Captain America game (cart only)
Snes X-men game (Cart only)
NES TMNT (cart only)
NES Flight Stick-type controller
It has all the requisite NES controller buttons, but I had never seen one of these before. I don't even remember seeing them sold when the NES was still in production.
paid: $3

Has anyone else come across something like this flight stick? I ask since many here seem to have a large collection of systems and possibly someone has one of these. I will post a picture when I get home this evening from work/school.

It's just like a thrift store. Go in, look around, hope to find some cheap ass games among the racks and racks of clothes, then buy the games.

You could also try Freecycle. You find a group for your town and you post items that you want to give away. People can then contact you if they want it and arrange a meeting. If someone has something you want, you send them a message. It works pretty well. I got rid of some old magazines that way.

ALL YMMV

There are a few around where I live called DAV Disabled American Veteran thrift Store. No web site.

Salvation Army http://www.satruck.com/FindStore.asp

ARC http://www.arcthrift.com/

No appointment needed. It's just like a store. The ones in my area have no idea what the value of anything is. I've seen a broken Game Boy ( original) priced as much as a Mario Party. The rare games are priced well, while the common ones are rediculously (sp) overpriced.
