Official 2011 Yard Sale Thread

I saw a boxed SP for $30, a boxed DE for $35, and a boxed DSi for $40. I left all of them. Too rich for my blood. I will try to pick the DSes up tomorrow if they are still there. I don't want to pay more than $50 for the pair.

All right, bear with me, I've been up since about 6:30 and I have to work tonight.

Went out to a sale that advertised a 7:00 start...not expecting much, but thinking it better be worth it...

Paid $25 for all of it.
I try my luck at a second sale...
Paid $5. It looks like it's all there, and the CD case still has the cellophane on it (never opened). It's the XP version, so I'll ask the CAGs...is it worth anything?

Just came back from my lunchtime walk and happened upon a yard sale that didn't seem too promising. Lots of overpriced electronics ($300 for a 5 disc DVD changer?) and stacks of DVDs (really cruddy-looking cases), but found this for $2:

Puzz3D Empire State Building - 902 pieces

There aren't any for sale used on Amazon & eBay's all over the place from $4-$40. Did I just make another bad flipping purchase?

Ah well, we'll see what the weekend brings...

Is it sealed? Opened puzzles are practically worthless. Sealed puzz3ds _can_ be valuable.

How do you guys hear about weekday yardsales? My local paper has a section in the Friday paper for weekend sales and I check Craigslist as well.

I don't think there is a used category for puzzles. You will have to list it under collectable. The cheapest one is $13, so after fees and shipping you should make $8 or so. I didn't plug in the specific numbers, so this is an estimate.

That's about it. Follow signs that are out as well.

UPDATE: Went back to the sale with the boxed DS and they were gone. The girl told m e they sold all the games, 3systems and their xbox last night.

That is the problem with being the first person at a sale. Most people will deal a little, but not a lot when they open. I was hoping they would make it through the day, but oh well.

Yea that's what I figured. Thanks. The only problem is the idiots here never take their signs down. you will see the same yard sale sign there for like 2 or 3 weeks.
Got a pretty clean Sega Saturn (with box) and about 9 games for $20
not bad. not bad at all. what games? id it come with boxes?
6 Games. I don't know how great these games are but pretty cool finding a Saturn.

not great, but not bad games. The box looks in good condition too. Looks almost minty

Box is kinda rough but holding together. This is my first Saturn ever so I was pretty excited to find it but not at the price they wanted ($40). Some haggling later and it's mine. Hoping I find some more games for it this weekend.

picked these up from two sales for 9 bucks total

You were really surprised a boxed dsi for $40 sold? I would have offered them $80 for the lot and if they declined, left with the dsi in a heartbeat.

I'd try listing it for $20 + shipping, the sales ranking isn't super-terrible and if you notice the current used listing of Amazon there's a price gap between $18-30. Chances are sets were bought in this range when the market was on the upswing.

The thing about any board game is that I've seen them bomb at auction on ebay, yet if you list and sit on it at Amazon you can make the sale when the supply dries up. Case in point:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000284YR0

I sold one of these for $90 (the tub was open, but the LEGO baggies were still sealed) even though when I first researched it there was one available in similar condition for $40 shipped or Best Offer on ebay.

After many many weeks of Garage Sailing I have found a new PS2! Woo I got it for $20 with a Monopoly game, WWF Smackdown and Grand theft auto 3 in great condition.

On a side note, the monopoly is loaded with finger prints... wtf people, really? It looks like they stuck there fingers in glue first, the finger prints won't rub off.

Only notable find today was a sealed Greatest Hits copy of Parasite Eve 1 for $1. So yeah, automatic buy. There's a tiny tear in the bottom right hand corner, though I don't see any cracks in the jewel case. Worth anything?

Today's Finds:

8-20Yardsale1.jpg

White GBA console - $3

Luigi's Mansion
Gamecube Controller
Super Mario 64
Resident Evil 2
2 n64 controllers

All for $20.

This guy was tough; he brought out a gamecube (wanted $20) and an n64 system (wanted $30) along with some n64 games he wanted near face value on. I started out by making a lowball offer of $4 for the Luigi's Mansion and GC controller (since he still had one remaining for the Gamecube console), he countered with $8 and I was about to turn away but tossed in the Mario 64 and settled on $10. Noticing some give (and the lack of change in my wallet), I got the RE2 added for $3 and the two n64 controllers added for $7.

1984 Blaster Master I believe. I don't know if I can get his front plate open but the joints are all in excellent shape. The Price? 50 cents.

And I just noticed a serious design flaw with my Transformer. You have to rub his crotch to make the autobot emblem light up. WTF?

Be careful - his name is Blaster.....

Congrats on the find. I love finding old Transformers. Haven't seen any in forever.

Another dry week. Found some gaming stuff, but didn't want to drop $80 on an NES with 4 average games . Hopefully everyone else did better! I'm thinking about going to an estate sale tomorrow that is going to have a decent amount of games, but it's a little further than I'd like to go. Hmm...

Picked these up along with Halo 2 and some other random gamecube games for $13 today:

I hope you don't seriously need any affirmation, it's pretty clear to anyone with any video game knowledge that you did well.
I hope you don't seriously need any affirmation, it's pretty clear to anyone with any video game knowledge that you did well.
yeah. it has some good rpg games and these games are not common in yard sales. i always see kids stuff, clothes, etc.

Yea I had some idea but I was looking to confirm with you guys who know a lot more than I do about these types of games.

Thanks guys and good luck on your yard sale endeavors :)

Not much so far this week, but I've done okay for what I got.

DSC04835.jpg

$6 for all. 360 controller has a few nicks on the sticks. And Left 4 Dead, which I'm keeping for myself, the case is shot and there's no manual, so I want to get those. Anyone think GS would let me swap cases since they don't care about cases?

DSC04834.jpg

From today. PS2 games were $10. Silent Hill3 has a soundtrack in it. Duke is factory sealed and was $.25. Wii guitar was $.10.

The star wars games were $.50 each. The puzzle was $1 (worth about $16) Everything else was $8 and the yoga video on top is worth almost that much in Amazon trade in:cool:. Sadly the Starwars set only has 1/3 tapes in it.

PS If the pic dosen't work sorry, I'm still new to this.

PSS Forget about the phone in the pic.

PSSS The pic works! Woo

PSSSS The SNES games are Super Mario World and WWF Raw

NES Systems With 21 Games & Some Controllers & Hookups - 30

Walked to my first sale Friday that was right around the corner from my place surprised to see this stuff out for sale in a box. Unfortunately I was told it was 50 to which I pointed out the missing AC adaptors and countered with 20. When the guy offered to do 30 I tried to meet him in the middle from that (25) but 30 was the best I could get him to do and not even being 8 yet probably wasen't helping me. He actually added in the 3rd system for parts that was missing all of the screws and of which I didn't notice had Dr Mario in it till I got home.

XG3: Extreme G Racing (PS2, Complete) - 1
Simpsons Hit & Run With Case & Manual For Sonic Mega Collection (GC) With Nintendo Power - 1.10
PS2 With Controller & Hookups (Parts), N64 With AC Adaptor, FC Twin With Hookups & 14 Cart Only Games - 5

Last gen games from different sales asking a buck each, NP for .10. Asked about video games at a sale and 2 boxes were brought out. One with the Nintendo stuff which I offered 5 for and then I ended up taking the broken PS2 for 3 more.

PS1 With Some Misc & 15 Complete Games - 15

Asked about just selling games and when 3 per a game was suggested I ended up (be it a bad decision) trying 15 for everything from 20 instead of trying to offer less then 3 per a game if I picked out a few.

Game Boy Systems With 4 Games & Some Misc - 10

This is all from the same sale as the PS1 stuff. Pretty much asking price with only .50 taken off when I was offered the last soft case left behind to be added in. The GBA said it needed cleaned and was only marked 2 and the cleaning consisted of a battery in the system that was leaking but wasen't too bad.

Xbox 360 System With 2 Controllers & Hookups - 10
3 Games - 1.50

The 3 games were asking price at 1, .25 & .25. I saw the 360 fairly late in the morning. I asked if it had anything wrong with it and was told it works. It was marked 30 OBO and my offer of 10 was taken.

Got out both Friday & Saturday at about 7:40 and was out for about 4 hours both days. Got to 21 sales Friday & 32 Saturday.

A little of all of the typical stuff like 2 houses which mentioned something from somebody else in the family if I came back Saturday only to be told sorry on Saturday when I came back and them having nothing. I take this with a grain of salt and don't go out of my way to return since it usually ends up in nothing. Two houses that mentioned having something collecting dust but with a little friendly prodding they don't seem eager to bring it out just to get it out of the house, this week one was deep in the attic and the other I was told everything was scattered around or something of the likes. I understand that it may be a pain depending on the situation but on the other hand typically when you run into that one house that is serious about moving some old games out of the house when you ask about them they don't mess around and will go inside and take a few minutes to round it up and bring it out. I don't remember anyone mentioning anything interesting that I missed when asking about video games.

The one house I want to elaborate on and the main reason it's worth doing a non find BS this week. This sale in particular advertised Playstation & Xbox 360 so I'm thinking most likely games or maybe systems or even both. I didn't bother going out of my way to get to this sale right away and got to it when it came up in my route. I see the Playstations then an N64 and was happy to spot a small stack of boxed SNES games..........I notice the N64 is high at 40 thinking ok the systems are price ed high and maybe that 40 also includes some games I'm not noticing then I see Gradius III on top of the boxed SNES stack but it has a sticker that says 12 on it [!] I ask the lady on the porch about this to make sure hoping that it's not the price and I was told yeah that's right to which I basically said something like I'm used to paying like a buck for these old games to which I'm told as if she is educating me that these games are worth money and the magic word "eBay" was used. BSing with the lady she's never sold a thing on eBay and I even tried to get her to let go of the box for Zelda:ALTTP since I'm just a box away from a complete copy but I was told that then the game would be worthless (or something like that) since they turn into gold in this lady's mind with the box (even if they are flat as a pancake) so I didn't even bother trying to further push to make a deal for just the box and gave up, I could see that the cart was marked 20 has if at some point (at a previous yardsale?) it was for sale as just the game. It sucked to walk away since I was interested in a few of the SNES games boxed/complete for my collection if they were at least reasonably cheap. I did decide before I left to write down my e-mail and gave it to this lady and told her that if she gets sick of having the games around and decides to deal to move them I would be interested.

I'll list some of the games and prices I can remember from this sale.

2 Playstation systems that seemed to have everything needed - 20 each
Nintendo 64 that I think had everything needed - 40
Original Xbox 360 system with I can't even remember what - Didn't even bother I'm guessing 80-100
Rush 2: Extreme Racing USA (cart only N64) - 8
Final Fantasy VII (complete) - 16
Mega Man X4 or one of the other 2D PS1 Mega Mans (PS1, complete) - 25!
Resident Evil 2 or one of the other PS1 Resident Evil games disk only - 17
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES, complete minus map and little tips & tricks booklet) - 30

I only looked inside the box of Actraiser 2 & Zelda ALTTP out of the SNES games so I know that they at least included manuals, the Zelda box had some wear (only game with a cardboard insert) but was clearly in better shape then the rest of the SNES games which IIRC all seemed to be missing the cardboard inserts from the pancake like crushing the boxes were showing, all of these games were marked 12.

Actraiser 2, Gradius III, Street Fighter II Turbo, Super R-Type

I'm at least remembering most if not all of the SNES games while I kind of tuned out with the PS1 games (probably about 10 of them total). I actually was thinking of making an offer of 10 on Final Fantasy which for some odd reason was priced on the lower end of what it sells for online but figured the lady would probably drop her price a buck at best and decided it better for non of this stuff to sell vs cherry picking the one item that isn't extremely expensive.
Decent. I've never seen a Joe and Mac cart.
I posted one a week or two ago :p
And I just noticed a serious design flaw with my Transformer. You have to rub his crotch to make the autobot emblem light up. WTF?
Yeah those transformers where the ones that you had to see if they were autobots or decepticons by using the heat sensitive stickers. Battle beasts had a similar sticker to determine what element they belonged to.
Anyone think GS would let me swap cases since they don't care about cases?
It all depends on your relationship with the employees. One guy at the gamestop near me usually doesn't mind (if the manager isn't around) if I grab a few club nintendo codes out of the used games as long as I buy something. :p

There was only one yard sale today, that's it. I even went about 45 minutes away from my house and there still weren't any worthwile sales (there was one that had nothing but furniture.)

There's one guy in particular who knows me real well, so I'm wondering if he might let me. And since I buy a ton there, maybe. Heck, if I lucky I might even be able to get a case for my copy of the Orange Box too.

Absolutely nothing today... Horrible day overall. Saw a SNES with 5 decent games so I offered $25 for it all figuring it'd be pretty fair. The guys said SNES games sell for $25 a piece and the system is upwards of $200... Found a yard sale that solely had PC parts and video games. The guy had a decent selection like random controllers, but he wanted about $10 per and consoles with cables only ranging about $25 to $45. They were Genesis, SNES, NES, and N64s. Nothing great.

lol ALL snes games sell for $25 apiece AT LEAST.

Upwards of $200 for a system, I would have laughed in his face

Really sick and tired of people who have never used, visited, or sold anything on ebay using that at their reasoning for overpricing their junk.

Go deal with ebay fees, paypal fees, shipping, chargebacks, scammers, nonpaying bidders, people complaining and getting their money back/stealing your item, waiting for your money, knowing what is a scam, having your item sit for 3 months before it sells, etc. Then tell me about ebay prices.

I'll pay ebay prices at a garage sale when I can come back to your house a month later when the game disc doesn't read 15 hours into the game and get my money back.

no offense to the church - just the misinformed dude selling stuff at its sale. Another fun idea - bring the guy a box of generic/common SNES games and ask if he'll buy them for $15 apiece - he can make $10 profit easy on each one!

I should have. Wasn't saying anything about the church, I know there is minimal association. Just saying I didn't laugh at him because it was in a church. Didn't want to potentially make a scene. Any other yard sale I would have.

Had a pretty good day today.

I did hit up one place Friday morning before work. They advertized 360 and psp games. Saw no 360 games, and most of the psp stuff were UMD movie stuff. Did pick up Field Commander though. They wanted $5, I offered $2, which was accepted.

Today, first place I stopped at said they had video games and systems. Got there, and saw no video games at all. It was a bummer.

Drove out to the next place. They had a PS1, which I passed on. Then I noticed a boxed Dreamcast. Looked inside, saw it had 2 controllers (both with VMUs) and a web browser disc. System was in great shape. He wanted $10, I offered $5, he agreed.

Next place said they had PS2s and games. They had 2 PS2s, one fat and one slim. Wanted $30 each. I offered $10. The lady hesitated and asked her friend what she thought. Her friend said "That's the old PlayStation, Take the $10". Had two controllers, all the hookups, and a memory card. Found out later both of the controllers were busted, but I went out a picked a used one up cheap.

Next stop was a apartment wide yard sale. Everyone set up tables in the fenced off basketball court area. Not much going on there, but I noticed a keyboard while walking out. It was in a wood case , and looked like it was from the late 70s/early 80s. Really good shape. I asked how much, the lady thought for a minute, then said " $5? It was my grandmother's." I asked if it worked and she said it did last time she checked. Bought it. Tested it when I got home. Definitely works, and it is badass. It's a Casio Casiotone 403, from 1982. Could not find much info on it. I have it listed on CL but I purposely overpriced it...I think I want to keep it.

Another stop had some Gamecube and PS2 games. Picked up Lego Star Wars, and Super Smash Bros. Melee. Both complete. They wanted $2 each. I offered $3, which they accepted.

Running out of steam, I hit up one more place on the way home. He had a few PS1 and PS2 games. Asked how much for the games...50 cents each! Not a bunch to pick from though. I got Amplitude, War of the Monsters, and Kingdom Hearts 2 (PH edition). $1.50 total. Amplitude is missing the manual but other than that they are all complete and in good shape.

Good day overall!

So far you had the best weekend of anyone that's posted. Good job! I've only seen one Dreamcast since I started, and the person wanted $40 for it.
