condition stuff seemingly pulled back by amazon, spoilered until I can reorg
Notice 4/14/11: New shenanigans abound! There is now a condition field for all trades - all trades are set to "Good" and may be determined to be worse than that ("Acceptable") or better ("Like New"). During the trade-in confirmation process you may choose whether to have an item in worse condition returned to you or just processed at the lower value. It does appear that this might mean that NORAM will start taking games/consoles without original packaging / manuals / etc which might be beneficial to some.

We'll see how this works out! To be added to the core FAQ after its newness wears off.

GENERAL FAQ (Updated 12/10/09)

Can I post question on this thread?
Only if you can't find the answer from below. And please let me know if it needs to be added to FAQ.

My cover art (PLATINUM HITS) differs from the pic on amazon, will my trade be accepted?
It all depends on the UPC so just turn your game around, type in the upc into the amazon search box. If the game comes up, then it's accepted regardless of cover art. Click on that result to submit your trade.

Since when did Amazon start doing trades?
The program began in 2009 and is handled by a third party merchant, NorAm International.

What kind of shipping does Amazon provide us?
Free UPS ground ---- USPS is no longer available for free. There is now also an option to provide your own shipping.

Do I have to provide my own box or envelope?
Yes.

Do all my games in the same trade-in submission have to be shipped in the same box? (updated 3/9/11)
Not necessarily - people have sent in multiple boxes for the same trade-in submission successfully. It's even possible to send half at one time and the other half at the end of the valid shipping period. However, it's probably best to always ship everything at once.

Can I send in sealed games?
Yes. They won't reject games that still have the original shrink wrap.

Can I add Delivery Confirmation and Insurance to my shipment?
For UPS Ground
It already provides you with tracking information.

I don't trust UPS ground. Can I pay for postage myself? What's the address?
Yes. You're more than welcome to do so. The address is:
NorAm International
22 Hampshire Dr
Hudson, NH 03051

(This is also an option when submitting your trades)

When do I have to send my games once I have submitted my trade order?
You have 1 week (7 days) to send your games. There have been reports of submitting trades up to 15 - 20 days late, but that is definitely ymmv. Send on time for the best chance at success!

Crap, I have one day to go before my shipment deadline, but the website states that my deadline has already passed. How do I print out a shipping label and packing slip?
Load up any existing order (if you don't have any, check your browser's history), and substitute the transaction ID for the trade-in order you need at the end of the URL.

How long does the whole trade-in process usually take?
From the time you send in your games, it may take up to 14 business days for the package to arrive. Most people usually receive their credit (Amazon GiftCard) in 3 to 5 business days, however.

How long does the "processing" status usually take?
Usually with no delay, but the longest reported days so far is 4.

My games were received on Friday (based on Delivery Confirmation), will I have to wait until Monday to receive credit?
People have received credit on a Saturday.

I do not have the manual, cover art, or original case for a game I want to trade in. Will they accept it?
While the details specifically state that original packaging is necessary, people have reported in the past that their trades were accepted despite missing some of these. This is extremely YMMV, however since some were also rejected by missing manual or cover art. On the other hand, older gen games; such as SNES, N64, and GB cartridges, normally get accepted without the original box and manual, but still YMMV.
It's always better if you trade your non-complete game as an additional credit, not part of the minimum requirement to qualify for the promo.

I do not have the manual, accessories, original box, original included game, etc for a console or accessory I want to trade in. Will they accept it? (updated 3/9/11)
The current wisdom is "probably not" - it's pretty YMMV but NorAm seems stricter than they should be on this. Your chances seem to be better for them accepting a console or accessory without the box / manual / etc if it's older generation or rare. You're more than welcome to give it a shot though if you're feeling lucky - just pack it well and include as much as you can!

My game is really beat up, what are the chances they’ll accept it?
This is YMMV. Some people have reported in the past that they sent in games in bad shape that were still accepted. Your best bet is still to trade in games in mint condition. Minor scratches are expected as these are used games.

My game is the Greatest Hits version, but the one pictured on the site isn’t. Can I still trade it in?
Unless the game in question has two separate versions that trade at different values, sending in a greatest hits version is okay.

I have a game from a limited edition bundle, will they accept it?
If the game’s cover art has a UPC barcode, they will most likely accept it. If your game's cover states "Not for Resale" and does not have a UPC barcode, the game will most likely get rejected. Some people have had their games accepted in the past, but this is YMMV.

The UPC barcode is not intact on my game's cover art, will that be accepted? (updated 3/9/11)
This is YMMV, but probably not. The UPC is all powerful within the walls of NorAm.

I sent in my games, all of which were in pristine condition with the original packaging, but they said that one game is damaged and is now being returned.
Always pack your games well. Put a lot of newspaper around your games in the box to secure them and to prevent any damages from haphazard box cutting. People in the past have requested their entire trade-in order if it’s obvious the damage wasn’t their fault, and Amazon ended up accepting the rejected game. This is YMMV as well.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
Yes. Once you click “Trade in” for a particular game, you may change the quantities. Once you submit, you can no longer change quantities on that trade-in batch.

How many multiple copies of the same game can I trade-in (updated 1/11/11)?
Maximum of 2 copies within 3 months period

I locked in X copies of a game but I now only have Y available to send. Can I just send in Y without being penalized? (updated 3/9/11)
Yes, you can always just send in a portion of your trade-in order and they'll just credit you for whatever they receive. However, the quantities you submitted for will stay locked in that instance (I think) so if you, for example, submitted for 2 copies and only sent 1, you may not be able to trade any more copies of that game for 3 months (see previous question).

Will the Trade-in of the Day TIV stay for 24 hours?
It's been reported that there is a limit (maximum # of copies) that will get the promoted TIV so lock yours.

So if I find a good flip, I can just send 2 copies of that game and not worry about Amazon accusing me of stolen merchandise?
Technically yes, but do keep in mind that other CAGs might want to participate in the current deal, and trading in a large number of the same game will definitely lower the TIV of said game. Let’s be nice to other people.

Wow, these TIVs suck (updated 3/9/11)!
Really? Hrm. While that may be true, they're often better than other comparable places. Your options of what to do with your used games are greater now than they've ever been, so feel free to shop your trades around or just sell them off on glyde/gamestaq/ebay/whatever.

What the fuck? The TIV of a game I just bought for this deal tanked! What do I do?
The TIVs on Amazon fluctuate depending on the number of trades that are submitted, and we really can’t do anything about it. The best course of action for trading in games is to lock in your trade if you already have the games or are absolutely sure that you can obtain them. You can always cancel the trade submission if you end up not finding the games.

LOCK = SUBMIT YOUR TRADE, Don't just put it in the cart.

Can I edit a submitted trade?
Nope - once upon a time you could modify trade in quantities of submitted trades, but that ability has been removed.

Can I use my credit (not the trade-in deal coupon) on items that are not video game-related?
Yes. This is the other perk for trading in games at Amazon since you're not limited to just video games.

Can I use my credit on items sold by third-party merchants on Amazon?
According to the fine print of the Amazon gift card use, some merchants are excluded. Your best bet is to try it on the checkout page of your order.

Strategy guides? I can trade in game/strategy guides? Whaaaaa?
Go to the Textbook Buyback section (http://www.amazon.com/Textbooks-Trad...ode=2205237011). You can either search on the title of a strategy guide you have to see if they'll accept it, or search for guides. The two best search strings to start with are 'prima guides' and 'bradygames'. Might try 'doublejump' if you want to trade in some of those. (Thanks eugaet)

I locked in some hilariously overvalued trade for some weird rare game/accessory/etc that I can pick up for cheap cheap cheap. They didn't accept it. What should I do? (updated 3/9/11)
The truth is that NORAM can reject things for any reason they see fit. While some people have managed to get silly things like a $200 credit for some cheerleading game, it's sooooooo YMMV that often it's not worth the effort. EXPECT REJECTION ON THINGS THAT ARE CLEARLY MISVALUED. That said, as long as you're willing to risk it, go for it!

trade-in promo related faq spoilered for history. promos no longer offered by amazon
---- TRADE-IN PROMO RELATED FAQ ---

When do I receive my coupon code for the current trade-in deal, if any?
The Terms of Service states 10 days after Amazon has accepted your games and added credit to your account, but it usually takes 2 to 3 days.

Can I do two different trade-in submissions that add up to the requirements of the current trade-in deal, if any?
No. In order to qualify for any of the trade-in promos, they have to all be in one trade-in submission. You can't add another game later on to make the minimum. However, you can adjust the quantity of the submitted game to make the minimum.

I submitted my trade-in order online, how do I know if I qualified for the current trade-in deal, if any? Is there a confirmation page or e-mail?
No. They will automatically send you a coupon code once they have accepted your shipment of games and credited your account.

Is the trade-in deal coupon in addition to the credit I will receive for my games?
Yes.

Can I trade in DVDs to take advantage of the current trade-in deal?
You may trade in DVDs to add credit to your Amazon account, but they will not be added to the amount you need to qualify for the deal.

Can I take advantage of the current trade-in (if available) promo more than once?
These deals are “One per household” unless stated otherwise. However, you may use a different Amazon account. The credit for your games will be tied to the specific account used for the trade, but the coupon codes for the deals are not.
*However, some people has confirmed that they get multiple coupon by using 1 Amazon account after doing multiple submission.
NOTE: IF YOU SEND MORE THAN 1 SUBMISSION, THE MULTIPLE COUPONS MIGHT COME IN 1 EMAIL, THE CODE IS SEPARATED BY A COMMA.

If the coupon codes aren’t tied to my account, can I use more than one coupon on my next purchase?
No. Unless stated otherwise in the promo details, these coupons cannot be combined with other offers or promotions.

So if they reject one of my games, am I disqualified from the current trade-in deal, if any?
Unfortunately yes. The best suggestion for trading in games is to trade in $10-$20 more than the minimum for the deal. By doing so, you will still qualify for the promo even if one or two games get rejected.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon on preorders?
Yes.

What happen to the Coupon code if I cancel the preorder?
The coupon code will stay with your account. It will be applied automatically at check-out as long as the coupon is not expired.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon when shopping from other merchants on Amazon?
No. ONLY ITEMS SOLD BY AMAZON.COM QUALIFY FOR PURCHASE WITH THE TRADE-IN COUPON. Even Amazon's other sites (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.jp, etc.) do not participate in these trade-in deals.

Trade-in coupon Usage:
Previous promo coupons and their expiration dates (NO ACTIVE PROMOS CURRENTLY):

1st Promo - $ 50 / $75 Coupon (coupon exp: 8/31) - Game Console Only
2nd Promo - 50 % Coupon (coupon exp: 8/31) - Game and Accessories
3rd Promo - $ 30 Coupon (coupon exp: 12/31) - Game Console, Game and Accessories
4th Promo - $ 30 Coupon (coupon exp: 12/31) - Game Console Only
Nope, should work, not required to ship all the games, they'll just give you credit for what you sent in. Did it a few times myself.
Thanks. I'll probably just cross out the two games on the packing slip. I also want to add L4D2 to the new order now that it's value went up.
Only issue would be that theres a limit of 3 per game, so you may not be able to submit another order for the games if you're at your limit already
It's only 1 copy of each game, so I'm fine there.

The TIV for Halo Reach jumped to $30.50, which is much better than Gamestop's $17 + 60%. Does anyone know how they'd handle a trade in of the game from the legendary box? Everything is identical except the case (black instead of green) and a different UPC. Anyone know what will happen?

If you read previous posts, it seems like they'll reject it based solely on the UPC (assuming everything else looks relatively legit).

I've kept up with the thread, and I'm afraid of that, but I wonder if anyone has actually tried it. The UPC isn't the legendary one, it's a separate one for the game in the box.
I have the Halo reach black box version as well, where/how can I check if it matches the Green case reach upc?
just type in the upc into amazon. (It won't match.)
Do you know anyone that has the game? See if they'd swap cases with you.
I'm guessing that you mean cover art? I don't think that the case is the problem , the upc on the cover art is :p. But yea I think I'll try that thanks.

So after reading the posts on here for a bit, how @nal is NoRam with scratches on the discs? I got some Wii and 360 games that I got from Blockbuster and want to trade in, but the Wii discs all have scratches.

From my personal experience, they're not quite as strict on disc condition. When I submit some really scratched games from Gamestop online buy 2 get 1 free sale, none of them got rejected. They even took a really poor condition Final Fantasy 7 that I got from Goozex. The cover art got major water damage and all the disc was scratch up to hell. I only got reject one once due to a missing manual.

Ah, alright. Thanks for the response. So far, the games I got are complete, though one manual looks like it been through some tough time.

Sucks, I traded in a game last week for 28.50 and today the TIV was 33.50. It was a Guitar Hero game so I definitely didn't expect the value to go up. You gotta love Amazon, they offer almost the highest possible value they can to make just the littlest profit.

I sent a couple of games in last week and they each went up about $3 in trade-in value. I e-mailed Amazon this morning and they issued me $6 in promo credit. The credit for the two games has not even been added yet either.

I need quick advice. I put in multiple trade-in's. Different Amazon UPS tracking# and trade-in transactionID. Do you think it's possible to put all the games in one box and put the different Transaction labels for each of the separate trades I am doing to save on boxes sent?

It looks like you can. This is from Amazon's trade-in FAQ:

"If you want to trade-in additional items, you can create another trade-in and send it in the same packaging box with the previously submitted trade-in items. Make sure to include separate packing slips for all the trade-ins submitted."

I wouldnt do it. You CAN but then you have no proof you sent in half your shit. I sent in a trade on December 3rd and only the part that I made the shipping label for was "received" by them. I've spent over 2 hours arguing with Amazon CS trying to get my fucking game or money back and the best they do is tell me to wait until christmas and theyll refund me if NORAM doesnt find my game by then. fuck that. I'm bitching every day until I get my money and then some. Anyway I wouldnt do it. Theyre thieves and liars. Fortunately 2 can play that game.

The entitlement in this post is stunning. They already offered to give you the money by Christmas if NORAM doesn't find your game, but you're going to bitch every day until you get more than you traded in?

Yet you're calling them "thieves and liars" and saying you're going to scam them? Try being polite instead, and let them handle it. In my experience, politeness goes much further than angry bitching. Plus you'll feel better about yourself at the end of the day.

To add content to this discussion, I've done it both ways - trading in two groups of trades in one box, and using separate envelopes for each group of trades. Never had a problem.

Yeah I am entitled; to my credit. I tried being nice (repeatedly, for way too long) it got me no results. Now I not only dont have my credit but I've wasted about 2 hours bitching about it. Time is money.

Anyone ever trade in a console? I'm thinking about it and want to hear anyone else's experience. (And please spare me the 'you can sell it on Craigslist/Ebay/etc. for more' spiele. I'm weighing my options and looking for the lowest hassle solution, so convenience is a major factor right now.)
is secondspin reliable for trade ins? they seem to beat Amazon by a little on some titles.
in my experience no, steer clear. they reduce the tiv when they receive it if they perceive anything to be wrong - a bent corner of a manual, a scratch on the case - immediate 20% lower tiv without asking. it's frustrating for sure. this was a year or so ago, so things might've changed.

I agree. Stay away from Secondspin. They have banned people from trading in as little as 2 of the same product even though they allow it...i know because i am one of those that got the banhammer! They will cancel your trade and ban if they determine at their discretion that you are acting in a "dealer-like" way.

Yeah, you're not gonna change his mind or make him feel bad about it. He's just kinda... that way.

As for the Halo Reach issue, if worse comes to worst, try Gazelle. They're more flexible and have monkeys who can actually look at a game and say "oh, it's the same game.. .approved". With NorAM, i've found you gotta have exactly the UPC or back it goes to you.

Definitely going to email them and try to get some credit. Thanks.

Can I use my credit on items sold by third-party merchants on Amazon?
According to the fine print of the Amazon gift card use, some merchants are excluded. Your best bet is to try it on the checkout page of your order.

I'm planning on trading in some textbooks and video games for the first time to Amazon. So it says "some" merchants are excluded. Is there anyway to check (or know which ones) before I trade in? I'm only really interested in 1 item from a specific 3rd-party seller that's fulfilled by Amazon, so I'd like to know if I'll be able to get it with credit or not.

I've never had a problem using credit on anything bought on Amazon, 3rd party or not. And if the item is fulfilled by Amazon, the credit will definitely work towards it.

I've been using nothing but Amazon credit for well over a year. I've only had an issue with one purchase and it was just last week. They had a deal for the iPod Touch + a $15 Amazon gift card. Since that required the purchase of the gift card (for which they deducted the price off the iPod sale itself) I couldn't use my credit towards any of it. So I had to use a credit card for that one. So, basically, as long as it isn't a "free Amazon gift card with purchase" type of deal, you can use the gift card credit on just about anything. I've bought several third-party items and had no problem using it. Granted, I haven't done any marketplace buying (ie, used stuff from ebay-like sellers) so I don't know about that part of it.

i emailed secondspin if it was fine to send 2ps3 and a 360 copy of the same game and they said yeah cuz each platform counts as a seperate title. i hope i dont get burned but tivs like 30 for knl2 is insane. i have them all in new cases and pristine manuals/disk condition so i hope all goes well. thank you for the warning though.

Well, this is unfortunate.

I just got credit for my first trade, but it's saying that one of my items weren't received, despite the fact that it was shipped in the same package as all the others.

It was a loose GBA cart, but I made sure to put it above the paper I had used to fill empty space. I dunno. Guess I'll just have to eat the $8 loss. :/

Well the policy does say it's supposed to come with everything. That is, the GBA cart should have been in it's proper box.

Trade-in values are the highest they've been (as far as I've noticed) since black friday.

Left 4 Dead 2 is at $19+, FiFa 11 is back to 30+, Halo Reach is 32, Mag is $12 (paid $10 during black friday).

They're trying to compete with Gamestop's 50% bonus. I sent in a couple shipments yesterday and hoping to have ~$100 credit next week.

2 questions for you veterans: 1) Does the shipment have to be received or sent by the last date? 2) This credit is it in the form of an amazon.com gift card? I want to know if I can apply some of the credit to an open order I have(MvC3 :) )

1. The date shown in your trade-in account is the date that you should ship by. Some people here have shipped after that date without problems, but I can't speak from experience.

2. Yes, it's the same as a gift card and will be automatically added to your Amazon account a day or so after they receive your package. You can add credit to orders as long as they haven't already entered the shipping phase. MvC3 doesn't come out until Feb., so you won't have a problem there.

thank you.

Question:

So I locked in 3 copies of MLB, and found only 1 copy at my first BBV i visited. I have a couple more stores I can check but I was wondering:

Can I send NoRam a shipment with only 3 of the 5 games listed for trade? Will they credit me for the 3 games?

Yes that's not a problem.

I think the same thing happened to me I locked in ultimate card games gba $3.25 and namco museum gba $1.75 I shipped the games cart only I put the games in a zip lock bag today I received a email saying my trade in has been received but I was only credited for the ultimate card games namco museum not yet received meanwhile the current trade in value for ultimate card games is $1.25 namco museum $1.50 this is the first problem with a trade in I emailed amazon.

Amazon rejected my Tekken 6 and White Knight Chronicles due to damaged discs but interestingly enough, they also rejected my Xbox Bioshock 2 due to it being the "wrong item" which I can only guess was due to a UPC issue. Weird there wasnt a BBV exclusive version for Bioshock 2. Luckily only those 3 total were rejected. Mitigated loss.

I'm a Amazon trade-in noob, so I'm sure this has been posted numerous times before but it wasn't in the OP.

Can I put multiple trade-in orders, with different transaction IDs, into one box? If so, how? Do I put multiple shipping labels on them? or Transaction IDs?

I'm wondering why would you want to do that? Can't you cancel your trade-in and the make one new transaction? Unless it has something to do with the trade-in value on each transaction.

Yes you can but you might get screwed like I did so you probably shouldnt. It's just a single shipping label, but multiple transaction IDs. Now the problem is you're only going to be sending in 1 package. So they can easily say well we received game X from one transaction ID but we never got game Y and Z from the other transaction ID. To be clearer they can acknowledge receipt of a single trade in and steal or "lose" any other trade ins and you'll have no proof that you ever even sent them in.
