condition stuff seemingly pulled back by amazon, spoilered until I can reorg
Notice 4/14/11: New shenanigans abound! There is now a condition field for all trades - all trades are set to "Good" and may be determined to be worse than that ("Acceptable") or better ("Like New"). During the trade-in confirmation process you may choose whether to have an item in worse condition returned to you or just processed at the lower value. It does appear that this might mean that NORAM will start taking games/consoles without original packaging / manuals / etc which might be beneficial to some.

We'll see how this works out! To be added to the core FAQ after its newness wears off.

GENERAL FAQ (Updated 12/10/09)

Can I post question on this thread?
Only if you can't find the answer from below. And please let me know if it needs to be added to FAQ.

My cover art (PLATINUM HITS) differs from the pic on amazon, will my trade be accepted?
It all depends on the UPC so just turn your game around, type in the upc into the amazon search box. If the game comes up, then it's accepted regardless of cover art. Click on that result to submit your trade.

Since when did Amazon start doing trades?
The program began in 2009 and is handled by a third party merchant, NorAm International.

What kind of shipping does Amazon provide us?
Free UPS ground ---- USPS is no longer available for free. There is now also an option to provide your own shipping.

Do I have to provide my own box or envelope?
Yes.

Do all my games in the same trade-in submission have to be shipped in the same box? (updated 3/9/11)
Not necessarily - people have sent in multiple boxes for the same trade-in submission successfully. It's even possible to send half at one time and the other half at the end of the valid shipping period. However, it's probably best to always ship everything at once.

Can I send in sealed games?
Yes. They won't reject games that still have the original shrink wrap.

Can I add Delivery Confirmation and Insurance to my shipment?
For UPS Ground
It already provides you with tracking information.

I don't trust UPS ground. Can I pay for postage myself? What's the address?
Yes. You're more than welcome to do so. The address is:
NorAm International
22 Hampshire Dr
Hudson, NH 03051

(This is also an option when submitting your trades)

When do I have to send my games once I have submitted my trade order?
You have 1 week (7 days) to send your games. There have been reports of submitting trades up to 15 - 20 days late, but that is definitely ymmv. Send on time for the best chance at success!

Crap, I have one day to go before my shipment deadline, but the website states that my deadline has already passed. How do I print out a shipping label and packing slip?
Load up any existing order (if you don't have any, check your browser's history), and substitute the transaction ID for the trade-in order you need at the end of the URL.

How long does the whole trade-in process usually take?
From the time you send in your games, it may take up to 14 business days for the package to arrive. Most people usually receive their credit (Amazon GiftCard) in 3 to 5 business days, however.

How long does the "processing" status usually take?
Usually with no delay, but the longest reported days so far is 4.

My games were received on Friday (based on Delivery Confirmation), will I have to wait until Monday to receive credit?
People have received credit on a Saturday.

I do not have the manual, cover art, or original case for a game I want to trade in. Will they accept it?
While the details specifically state that original packaging is necessary, people have reported in the past that their trades were accepted despite missing some of these. This is extremely YMMV, however since some were also rejected by missing manual or cover art. On the other hand, older gen games; such as SNES, N64, and GB cartridges, normally get accepted without the original box and manual, but still YMMV.
It's always better if you trade your non-complete game as an additional credit, not part of the minimum requirement to qualify for the promo.

I do not have the manual, accessories, original box, original included game, etc for a console or accessory I want to trade in. Will they accept it? (updated 3/9/11)
The current wisdom is "probably not" - it's pretty YMMV but NorAm seems stricter than they should be on this. Your chances seem to be better for them accepting a console or accessory without the box / manual / etc if it's older generation or rare. You're more than welcome to give it a shot though if you're feeling lucky - just pack it well and include as much as you can!

My game is really beat up, what are the chances they’ll accept it?
This is YMMV. Some people have reported in the past that they sent in games in bad shape that were still accepted. Your best bet is still to trade in games in mint condition. Minor scratches are expected as these are used games.

My game is the Greatest Hits version, but the one pictured on the site isn’t. Can I still trade it in?
Unless the game in question has two separate versions that trade at different values, sending in a greatest hits version is okay.

I have a game from a limited edition bundle, will they accept it?
If the game’s cover art has a UPC barcode, they will most likely accept it. If your game's cover states "Not for Resale" and does not have a UPC barcode, the game will most likely get rejected. Some people have had their games accepted in the past, but this is YMMV.

The UPC barcode is not intact on my game's cover art, will that be accepted? (updated 3/9/11)
This is YMMV, but probably not. The UPC is all powerful within the walls of NorAm.

I sent in my games, all of which were in pristine condition with the original packaging, but they said that one game is damaged and is now being returned.
Always pack your games well. Put a lot of newspaper around your games in the box to secure them and to prevent any damages from haphazard box cutting. People in the past have requested their entire trade-in order if it’s obvious the damage wasn’t their fault, and Amazon ended up accepting the rejected game. This is YMMV as well.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
Yes. Once you click “Trade in” for a particular game, you may change the quantities. Once you submit, you can no longer change quantities on that trade-in batch.

How many multiple copies of the same game can I trade-in (updated 1/11/11)?
Maximum of 2 copies within 3 months period

I locked in X copies of a game but I now only have Y available to send. Can I just send in Y without being penalized? (updated 3/9/11)
Yes, you can always just send in a portion of your trade-in order and they'll just credit you for whatever they receive. However, the quantities you submitted for will stay locked in that instance (I think) so if you, for example, submitted for 2 copies and only sent 1, you may not be able to trade any more copies of that game for 3 months (see previous question).

Will the Trade-in of the Day TIV stay for 24 hours?
It's been reported that there is a limit (maximum # of copies) that will get the promoted TIV so lock yours.

So if I find a good flip, I can just send 2 copies of that game and not worry about Amazon accusing me of stolen merchandise?
Technically yes, but do keep in mind that other CAGs might want to participate in the current deal, and trading in a large number of the same game will definitely lower the TIV of said game. Let’s be nice to other people.

Wow, these TIVs suck (updated 3/9/11)!
Really? Hrm. While that may be true, they're often better than other comparable places. Your options of what to do with your used games are greater now than they've ever been, so feel free to shop your trades around or just sell them off on glyde/gamestaq/ebay/whatever.

What the fuck? The TIV of a game I just bought for this deal tanked! What do I do?
The TIVs on Amazon fluctuate depending on the number of trades that are submitted, and we really can’t do anything about it. The best course of action for trading in games is to lock in your trade if you already have the games or are absolutely sure that you can obtain them. You can always cancel the trade submission if you end up not finding the games.

LOCK = SUBMIT YOUR TRADE, Don't just put it in the cart.

Can I edit a submitted trade?
Nope - once upon a time you could modify trade in quantities of submitted trades, but that ability has been removed.

Can I use my credit (not the trade-in deal coupon) on items that are not video game-related?
Yes. This is the other perk for trading in games at Amazon since you're not limited to just video games.

Can I use my credit on items sold by third-party merchants on Amazon?
According to the fine print of the Amazon gift card use, some merchants are excluded. Your best bet is to try it on the checkout page of your order.

Strategy guides? I can trade in game/strategy guides? Whaaaaa?
Go to the Textbook Buyback section (http://www.amazon.com/Textbooks-Trad...ode=2205237011). You can either search on the title of a strategy guide you have to see if they'll accept it, or search for guides. The two best search strings to start with are 'prima guides' and 'bradygames'. Might try 'doublejump' if you want to trade in some of those. (Thanks eugaet)

I locked in some hilariously overvalued trade for some weird rare game/accessory/etc that I can pick up for cheap cheap cheap. They didn't accept it. What should I do? (updated 3/9/11)
The truth is that NORAM can reject things for any reason they see fit. While some people have managed to get silly things like a $200 credit for some cheerleading game, it's sooooooo YMMV that often it's not worth the effort. EXPECT REJECTION ON THINGS THAT ARE CLEARLY MISVALUED. That said, as long as you're willing to risk it, go for it!

trade-in promo related faq spoilered for history. promos no longer offered by amazon
---- TRADE-IN PROMO RELATED FAQ ---

When do I receive my coupon code for the current trade-in deal, if any?
The Terms of Service states 10 days after Amazon has accepted your games and added credit to your account, but it usually takes 2 to 3 days.

Can I do two different trade-in submissions that add up to the requirements of the current trade-in deal, if any?
No. In order to qualify for any of the trade-in promos, they have to all be in one trade-in submission. You can't add another game later on to make the minimum. However, you can adjust the quantity of the submitted game to make the minimum.

I submitted my trade-in order online, how do I know if I qualified for the current trade-in deal, if any? Is there a confirmation page or e-mail?
No. They will automatically send you a coupon code once they have accepted your shipment of games and credited your account.

Is the trade-in deal coupon in addition to the credit I will receive for my games?
Yes.

Can I trade in DVDs to take advantage of the current trade-in deal?
You may trade in DVDs to add credit to your Amazon account, but they will not be added to the amount you need to qualify for the deal.

Can I take advantage of the current trade-in (if available) promo more than once?
These deals are “One per household” unless stated otherwise. However, you may use a different Amazon account. The credit for your games will be tied to the specific account used for the trade, but the coupon codes for the deals are not.
*However, some people has confirmed that they get multiple coupon by using 1 Amazon account after doing multiple submission.
NOTE: IF YOU SEND MORE THAN 1 SUBMISSION, THE MULTIPLE COUPONS MIGHT COME IN 1 EMAIL, THE CODE IS SEPARATED BY A COMMA.

If the coupon codes aren’t tied to my account, can I use more than one coupon on my next purchase?
No. Unless stated otherwise in the promo details, these coupons cannot be combined with other offers or promotions.

So if they reject one of my games, am I disqualified from the current trade-in deal, if any?
Unfortunately yes. The best suggestion for trading in games is to trade in $10-$20 more than the minimum for the deal. By doing so, you will still qualify for the promo even if one or two games get rejected.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon on preorders?
Yes.

What happen to the Coupon code if I cancel the preorder?
The coupon code will stay with your account. It will be applied automatically at check-out as long as the coupon is not expired.

Can I use the trade-in deal coupon when shopping from other merchants on Amazon?
No. ONLY ITEMS SOLD BY AMAZON.COM QUALIFY FOR PURCHASE WITH THE TRADE-IN COUPON. Even Amazon's other sites (Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.jp, etc.) do not participate in these trade-in deals.

Trade-in coupon Usage:
Previous promo coupons and their expiration dates (NO ACTIVE PROMOS CURRENTLY):

1st Promo - $ 50 / $75 Coupon (coupon exp: 8/31) - Game Console Only
2nd Promo - 50 % Coupon (coupon exp: 8/31) - Game and Accessories
3rd Promo - $ 30 Coupon (coupon exp: 12/31) - Game Console, Game and Accessories
4th Promo - $ 30 Coupon (coupon exp: 12/31) - Game Console Only
Eh, it isn't a great thing (new limit of 2 that is), but it isn't the end of the world either.
True, but to hardcore flippers that find several copies of an item, it is not looking good for them. They are not only cutting the limit to 2, they are also extending the time you can submit the same item. Unless this only happened to me.

I checked the trade-in value for Uncharted 2 guides and they went up from $3.xx to $8.xx. I had just sent 2 that day, but I tried to submit another trade-in for another 2 and it said I couldn't trade any more of that item until April
Any ideas how long it is until you find out if your games were accepted by Noram after UPS confirms delivery?
recently its take 2-3 business days for me.
WTF - Amazon lost my Dante Inferno trade ins in the mail
pfft. Good luck if you mean Noram "lost" them. As long as you have the proof they were sent in though you'll end up ok.

It's actually much better for him if they did lose it. Then it's UPS's fault and they can't reject them.

Didn't see this in the FAQs but hopefully someone has had this experience.

Traded in some games and used some credit on dead space 2. Since this credit hasn't been removed yet (comes out this Tuesday) if I cancel the order will that credit be put immediately back on my account or does it take 24 hours or what's the deal there?
EDIT: I'm an idiot. There is literally a 'Apply balance to order' button that says how much I currently have. Not sure how I missed it.

Didn't see this in the FAQs but hopefully someone has had this experience.

Traded in some games and used the credit (about $40) on dead space 2. Since this credit hasn't been removed yet (comes out this tuesday) if I cancel the order will that credit be put immediatly back on my account or does it take 24 hours or what's the deal there?

I only ask because I have about another $30 in credit that I earned after I made the preorder so I was going to cancel, stack all the credit and reorder.
Credit is automatically applied after cancellation, but just go to your order history and their will be a message asking you if you want XX.xx of credit applied to your order, hit that and your done no need to cancel/re-order

It goes back on your account immediately.

I locked in a trade for 3 copies of the same game about 3 days ago. Are they going to try to pull some BS on me now that they only allow 2 copies?
I locked in a trade for 3 copies of the same game about 3 days ago. Are they going to try to pull some BS on me now that they only allow 2 copies?
If you have a locked in trade, they aren't going to go back on it.
If I recall correctly Amazon was offering $10 towards an Xbox Live 12 month Online Game Code when you purchased select games. When those codes weren't available, I chatted with CS to see if they can turn it into a $10 GC but I had no luck :whistle2:( I'm no good when it comes to that.

Btw, those of you that have a Star Ocean: The Last Hope International Signature Series Strategy Guide lying around, Amazon is offering $17.91. I'm willing to let it go because it only cost me a pretty penny ;)

Have y'all ever gotten a notice from Amazon about canceling trade-ins and re-submitting them? I think I canceled this one about 2 times already. It was at $10, then $6 for about a week or so. Decided to submit a trade-in, then went up $9 (canceled previous and re-submitted trade-in). Just now I checked and went up to $17, so I canceled the previous trade-in and resubmitted.
Or sell it for $50?

10 new from $49.89 7 used from $48.23
sigh. people sending in three sealed copies of games have now ruined this too. has anyone figured out the timeframe yet? is it now 6 months?
last I checked their faq still states 3 months and that seems to jive with what I'm seeing.

and not to be daft, but what's the difference between sending three sealed vs three unsealed copies? either way it's more than likely a flip, the source is just different. unless a lot of people buy three copies of a game as backups or something... if I were noram I think I'd appreciate the sealed games since even if I can't sell them new I'm sure they're in flawless condition.

i thought someone earlier reported that the time frame was extended.

sealed vs unsealed: 3 sealed raises more red flags. It's possible that you could have 3 copies of a game to trade in (especially if you have large families or maybe you're trading in for buddies and you're all done with COD MW2 or something.) but there's no reason to trade in 3 sealed games unless it's a flip.

I dont think NorAM likes flips.

Either way, it's 2 now so them's the breaks.

Re: $10 promo- if you guys got the xbox live code promo, check to see if it's been converted to regular promo. I don't think i've bought anything lately that gives me a $10 promo and just yesterday I bought something and had a -$10 line apply. Now, I could be wrong and it's not the xbox live code one so don't go arguing with a CSR that someone you know got it converted to regular promo instead of xbox live 12 month code only promo. Just a heads up.
sigh. people sending in three sealed copies of games have now ruined this too. has anyone figured out the timeframe yet? is it now 6 months?
I think what people seem to fail to recognize is that a change like this is always going to happen because there is a gap in the process. Any company that is run well is going to identify those gaps and close them before they get out of control. People sending 3 copies of a game is not that significantly different than sending 2 copies of a game, so I highly doubt that someone sending in 3 sealed copies of a game would cause this. The truth of the matter is the defect is with their pricing, and because they are not confident with their pricing they are putting other limits in place to compensate instead of fixing the actual issue.

Companies want to automate everything so that they can get by on fewer man hours, but when they do stuff like those inflated TIV's pop up and they didn't have a proper quality check in place to catch it. Instead of taking the responsibility themselves, Noram is putting the blame on the customers. On top of all of their other customer service gaffs, Noram is a company that is much easier to despise than support.

On a place like CAG, we should ONLY be exploiting a company like Noram, anything less almost disqualifies yourself as a true CAG. If a change like this truly impacts you in any way you are far more lazy and want everything handed to you than you are ambitious.

I'm ok with not directing my "ambition" towards flipping games.

I'm just mad because when I actually do have 3 games to trade in, I can't now. Or have to do it on multiple accounts.

Listen, most of us just want to easily trade some games and get some good credit. This isn't a job.

My package was delivered at 7am yesterday. NorAm still says not received. Damn you all for having so many trade ins! And damn you confoosious for all your multiples! :)

I really can't think of a situation where you would have 3 copies of a game that are all your own (not sayings friends/family) that are for anything but flipping. It's like you condemn people for flipping and then say you're mad because you can't flip to them anymore.

It is suggested by your sidebar comments that you just want things handed to you and a path of least resistance. There's nothing wrong with that, but you have to acknowledge that being proactive versus reactive will net you different results.

Again, Noram is really the one at fault, they are punishing us who use their program due to their own inability to run their program more effectively. At least other companies like DealTree and Gazelle largely identified their issues and have become a less viable option now, but that's a testament to their business model that they've closed up the gaps.

Mine was delivered yesterday as well and still no credit.

I'm really liking these "daily deals" that they offer on trade ins. Over the past few weeks I've racked up about $140 in trades, all from games I paid maybe $60 for. I have today's deal as well (Hot Shots Golf OOB) and they'll give $17 for it, but I'm probably going to hold on to it.

Recently, I picked up 3 copies of mass effect from BBV during the B1g1 free sale.

2 copies had instructions and were complete and one copy wasn't.

I mailed the 2 copies with manuals. However both were rejected. I received them back and sticker said missing manuals.

I really wish Nor-Scam would get penalized for some of their business practices. Thinking about it isn't really worth the headache though. :whee:

Just incase anyone was wondering, some of my credit did go missing so amazon placed the missing 72.xx back into my account. Keep a look out
Or sell it for $50?
Damn, I'm such a :dunce:. I didn't even think about that  My copy is in like new condition but I don't think I'll put it up for that much.

I'm not really sure how wishing the old rule of allowing 3 trades was still intact is somehow an indication of me wanted things handed to me or take the path of least resistance. It's simply wishing things weren't fucking going downhill all the time because of greedy people.

Sorry, creating extra accounts is not being creative or proactive. If you have to create multiple accounts, you're doing it to circumvent the rules. If you want to do it, by all means, have fun. But I just wanted to trade in 3 games (yes, family and friends like I said) without the hassle. Which it has become cause people were so goddamn greedy, they traded in 3 sealed games because they wanted to make sure that if they were rejected, they could return them to the local store. (I was gonna say gamestop but clearly they wouldn't be sealed then.)

Flipping in itself isn't so bad. It's just that people get so greedy and flip so much, they just completely fuck it up for everyone else. (dealtree, gazelle, amazon.) And then they have the nerve to say "it wouldve happened anyway" or "you're just mad cause you didn't get as much credit."

I'm not mad cause I didn't have enough of the golden goose eggs. I'm mad cause dumbasses killed it.
pfft. Good luck if you mean Noram "lost" them. As long as you have the proof they were sent in though you'll end up ok.
put in some spaces so it doesnt get referral linkified.

edit: or just talk to Amazon customer service. they have all that info available to them. When they check the UPS tracking info, they'll initiate an investigation.

edit2: unless you mean it didn't even hit the UPS tracking system. IN which case, it's just your word. You might be screwed.

I truly doubt that NorAm is setting these rules or handling the pricing. Amazon is a billion dollar company, and it's not likely that they're leaving the rules of this program or the pricing to the 3rd part company that is processing the trades. I would guess that NorAm is responsible for the grunt work, and then they delineate the games/DVDs/books from this program back to Amazon.

Got a simple question from those who use this program often.

I just sent a couple games in (first time with Amazon). Do they give you a gift card code you redeem on your account (or any account) or do they just deposit credit into your account?
they just deposit credit into your account, yup.
I mistakenly did the trade-in on my account vs. my gf's who has Prime. Anyway I can get it transferred over? Can I buy a gift card with the trade-in credit and then she can use it on her account?

Go to her prime account and add you as a family member. It will give you prime shipping as well for free.

She has a student Prime account so she can't share.

It doesn't matter anyways. The whole point was to consolidate the credit on one account and I screwed up by trading it on on my account without Prime.

She has $40 on her account ($20 from LivingSocial deal and $20 from the LBP2 $20 credit after I complained to customer service enough) and I will have $41.50 on my account (and $20 more if I use my LivingSocial Deal) but neither account covers a $70 game without some out of pocket cost.

put in some spaces so it doesnt get referral linkified.

edit: or just talk to Amazon customer service. they have all that info available to them. When they check the UPS tracking info, they'll initiate an investigation.

edit2: unless you mean it didn't even hit the UPS tracking system. IN which case, it's just your word. You might be screwed.
Thanks for that. I talked to a CS rep and they made a one time exception for me and honored the trade-in anyway. They did reiterate to me that they're not responsible for lost items and in those events going forward, that I should talk to UPS.

You never answered my question: did it ever hit the UPS system? (as in it was tracked at some point)

Cause if it did, then it's entirely on them. They're the actual sender and they have to file the claim if it was lost. If you called UPS, that's what they'd tell you to do.

Oops sorry - yeah it was scanned into their system and stopped making progress about 2 1/2 weeks ago at Chelsford, MA.

That sounds like anybody with a lost package would be stuck then wouldn't they? Amazon is the actual sender but their policy is that they aren't responsible for lost packages while the rep I spoke with told me to talk to UPS even though I used their pre-printed label. She didn't mention anything about following up with UPS while she was delegating that responsibility to me. Sounds like she hadn't realized that she was the actual sender. That or they don't care to as per their policy about lost packages.

I got my credit this morning. All 4 games were accepted with no issues. Took 2-3 days after the package was delivered for them to deposit the gift card balance. About what others were avergaing. Box cutters be damned I say!

Mine finally showed up as well. It had been delivered since 1/20. $30 for Vanquish ftw.

Now if they'd only post my other two transactions...
