Buying something for $400 and reselling it for $700 gets what profit? We are talking about a $150 profit, maybe $180. Yeah, I could make that investing less money on other things.

While some will resell it, I think this one is mostly a collectors thing.

Sorry but I guess I don't. I'm a huge duke nukem/mario/nintendo fan. But if any of my all time favorite franchises came out with a "special" edition at the price of a gaming console or hell a regular tablet, I would NOT be interested. I would rather just buy something that has thousands of uses besides a book, a robot and 2 games. If this is the intelligence of gamers then I'm ashamed to be a gamer.
I guess other people enjoying there money "wrong" is just too much to handle?

It's probably best not to insult / offend gamers that have different tastes than yours. To each their own. I really wouldn't mind having this personally, but it is outside the range what I would want to spend, but I have no problem with the others that buy it (except of course for resellers, it seems to be cool to hate them lately).

The "I wouldn't buy it so know one else would" or "I don't have/cant justify spending $400" line of thinking just shows how small picture your thinking is.

This includes 12 lithographs, which I'm going to assume are the mini 6" x 9" version sold on the gearbox store. Those go for $15 each.

12 x $15 = $160.

add in the price of the game and a limited edition RC claptrap which streams video feed to your phone and the $400 is justifiable to at the very least, 5,000 fans.

There will be a secondary market for this.

I wouldn't waste my sanity reselling something so large though... and something that comes with a mechanical item like the RC claptrap since the blowback will fall on the reseller if it doesn't work or there are Q/C issues.

That being said $150 return on a $400 investment---even if the $400 had to be paid upfront (which it doesn't) is extremely good. It's perfectly okay to shit on resellers but don't make silly comments.

Edit: Even with that being said I think clearing $150 after shipping costs, FVF, insurance, etc. is on the optimistic side of things unless you're willing to send this overseas, and again, since we don't know product size/weight you're taking a big risk listing it internationally since there are size restrictions on what you can send and where.

To combat that though I have no idea why AZ doesn't cap any presale item with a product run of less then 30,000 to 3 per customer/address.

I mean I know the name of the game is to move units and make a profit but it doesn't do them any good if a dozen people preordered 20+ and end up cancelling them all three days before release because they weren't able to find buyers... and you know that more then a few people just blind preordered 20 units out of greed and that at least a small percentage of those will end up cancelling.

Most resellers are small time losers who can afford amiibo prices and even the Zelda $250 3ds price. $400 is another beast entirely. $150 from $400 is not that much for the risk involved. Thats all I said.

According to this fee calculator, a flipper would end up profiting $209 on a $700 buy it now sale, so a 52.25% return on investment. I don't know... that's not too bad for next to zero work... I know my 401(k) can't touch that return rate lol. And that's before you even take into account the fact that the transaction has a negative cash conversion cycle (since Amazon doesn't charge until it ships and the flipper charges an eBay buyer up front), which increases the potential return even further since the selling price cash can be used to fund other investments in the meantime.

You're right---too much risk. My sentiment was that I'll take $150 on a $400 investment though when I can for the sake of the argument do it 20 times over.

But on something so large, that takes up so much space and is an item where so much could go wrong (damaged steelbook, damaged lithographs, QC issues with the RC claptrap) I wouldn't suggest anyone waste their time.

I've got my two though (PS4 of course) with the intent that I may be able to parlay one and some other HTF CE into a 20th anniversary PS4 since I was away that weekend and missed out

There is shipment as well. Any smart reseller would ship this well packaged, insured, and with signature confirmation. Not USPS, but UPS or FEdex. Thats it. Thats going to cost about another $30-$50 bucks.

The robots worth at least $200 it's not exactly super cheap to make it.

With that said, Mm yes a lot of fans will shell out for claptrap alone... =/
Electronics alone for this will run about $50, not including labor. Add to that the physical shell (which looks well painted, but cheap quality), R&D, factoring in 5,000 units, I'm willing to bet their at-cost is around $150 per CL4P-TP.

There's some questionable inclusions, which makes me suspect that they were aiming for a more complex AI, such as maybe recognizing stairs and playing the quote about stairs. It likely became cost-prohibitive due to its complexity, so they probably just used the same hardware to let you stream video to your phone. This is pure speculation, of course.

My main disappointment is the arms not moving. I think they should have minimally put motors on the shoulders so it could raise it's arm to high-five.

About $170 profit, less shipping. But if you can easily spend 10 minutes and get a 45% return, I don't know why you're wasting your time posting on a forum that for sure saves you a lot less money than that.

Edit: $170 is taking into account 8% sales tax. I always use 13% fees as estimation.

I just bought the fucking Ganandorf first 4 figure. That was $300 bucks. I don't want to spend another $400 today but my OCD is getting the better of me. Ugh.

My post isn't about hating resellers. It actually was about saying that this might be mostly a collectors thing. I just don't want to read 972823837 pages with reseller hate.

Worldwide 5,000 total. Amazon sold out at the same time for both platforms which makes me almost certain they oversold.
When's the last time Amazon oversold anything? They enter a quantity that they have been promised by the distributor or publisher prior to opening preorders and when those are gone, they're gone. Unless the distributor/publisher fails to deliver for some reason, Amazon is pretty exact about preorders.

That's a pretty high estimate you got there. You're assuming alot about how large the box will be if you think it costs that much.

The only thing that comes to mind is that Amazon phantom adjusted TOX 2 CE orders... which doesn't make a lot of sense because I think they had inventory post release. If you ordered more then three then without notice, they adjusted orders two 3.

They did the same for one other CE and if you give me a minute I can think of it

Have you shipped anything UPS or FedEx in 2015? Not trying to be smart but they changed how they calculate rates and prices balloon if the box is over a certain size since they are now using dimensional weight

I don't see the value in this as a collector or a reseller. It has pretty neat contents, but I don't feel like I'm seeing $400. Also, unless you were going to sell one for $1000+ or at least 3 at $700+ apiece, it just doesn't seem worth the effort or intial investment, but perhaps I'm just greedy. I also don't know this to be a hugely popular series so you could end up holding the product for a long time, unlike one of the recent Zelda goods.

On an entirely separate note, I wonder what a $400 LE for a series I was into - like Bayonetta, for example - would contain..

Fair enough, but if you really can make 45-50% return this easily, you really should put more of your time doing that, cause you'll easily not need this site to save money.

With items like this that are limited to a specific number amazon does have a history of overselling. The legend of zelda hyrule historia collectors edition and final fantasy art book are a few of the big ones.

They've always used dimensional weight. I think the difference is that they lowered the limit. I think it was around 5000 cubic inches before, and now it's a little under 3000 cubic inches.

Edit: Nevermind, every Fedex/UPS package is subject to dimensinoal weight, not just the ~3000 cubic inches.

I can see it now Zelda WiiU collectors edition limited to 2500. $400 msrp sells out in 2 minutes. New price on ebay $1500 to $2000. This is exactly how the sports card market transitioned from the late 90 to today.

Have you shipped anything UPS or FedEx in 2015? Not trying to be smart but they changed how they calculate rates and prices balloon if the box is over a certain size since they are now using dimensional weight
Not in 2015 with UPS or FedEx yet, but in 2014 $30-$50 assumes a rather large box. There's no reason to believe the box for this will be that big, and I doubt the 2015 rates skyrocketed.

In 2015, a 16x16x16 box will be billed at a minimum of 25 lbs.

A 16x16x12 box will be billed at a minium of 19 lbs.

A 12x12x12 box will be billed at a minimum of 11 lbs.

This is even if you mail an empty box.

With items like this that are limited to a specific number amazon does have a history of overselling. The legend of zelda hyrule historia collectors edition and final fantasy art book are a few of the big ones.
Both of those were at least two years ago and mistakes were made by the publisher in not communicating what the real stock numbers were. Heck, some very prominent and respected comic dealers didn't get their requested quantities of those two books. They also weren't collector's edition games, they were limited edition books.

Amazon is a preferred partner of Gearbox (indeed, they were the only retailer Gearbox used for preorders of the new Homeworld CE) and it's not like this was open for preorders for more than maybe 20 minutes. I'm pretty confident these will be delivered to anyone that preordered one through Amazon.

Pretty sure flippers buying from Amazon will just use Prime and redirect to the buyer's address meaning shipping and packaging will be $0.

Then they would have had to take the time to order each unit individually. To the best of my knowledge you can't order 5 units in a single order and have each one shipped to a different location after the fact. I could be wrong though.

These will sell out. Borderlands has a large following... they made significantly more then 5,000 of the Loot Chest Editions across all platforms and people paid $300+ for those on the secondary market.

I'm surprised Amazon is carrying them (although no word if .com will get it). I'd expect this to be exclusive to the 2K/Gearbox store since the lithographs are duplicates of what are already being sold there (not to mention the steelbook is an exact copy of a Sam Spratt lithograph)
Yeah, you're right this thing sold out on Amazon within an hour. That's nuts. I thought it would sell well if it was for an unreleased sequel while factoring in some market saturation with the existing Borderlands CE that have been out for a couple of years now.

But frankly, I think a large part of it is due to the sheer number of flippers. Amazon somehow forgetting to enforce an order limit just screws more genuine fans.

With that said, big thanks to cag member Ziplock. I was able to preorder one for the PS4.

Except if Amazon or the distributor isn't requiring signature and you simply redirect it to someones address through your Amazon account they can easily say they never got it. Something this expensive will most likely require a signature though.

^ Yeah it still baffles me that AZ will throw up a preorder and not enact a quantity restriction. They have done that on a number of very limited items.

I'm not sure what process they use as other items, that aren't even very limited, will be capped at three per account the moment they go live.

Someone can say that anyway unless the seller requires a signature and even then, I suspect Ebay would side with a buyer in good standing if they claimed the signature was forged or the item was damaged or destroyed or stolen from the porch. I dislike flippers as much as anyone here, but the reality is that the overwhelming majority of Ebay buyers are honest which is why flippers take the easiest possible route to maximize their profit and most Ebay resellers probably deal with very, very few claims or returns.

Both showing as Not Available to me.
It's letting me go through the checkout process for the :xb1: version.

EDIT: Cheapest shipping is $14.00, for $7.50 more you can choose the fastest shipping. No brainer there on a $400 item. :)

Debating on ordering a second one. Mostly because I want to mod the Claptrap, and if I ruin the only one we have, the fiancee would kill me in my sleep.

So the question becomes whether buying it from someone parting it out would be better than parting out a second one myself.
