How is it degrading? Takes two minutes to do the fingerprint and photo. It's not that serious to me. Not like I plan on being some criminal one day.

I had to submit a full set of fingerprints just to do the job that I work at, so after that, submitting a thumb print to trade in a game is no big deal to me.

It's the fact that you're being treated as a potential criminal (guilty until proven innocent) although the vast majority of us have never and will never commit a crime. I find that to be degrading. I understand why they do it, but I'd never subject myself to it.

GameStop or any other store taking fingerprints to trade in games is degrading and should be illegal. Copying your id or taking a picture I can see as completely fine.
 
I like how people assume getting finger prints means you're a criminal lol.

Also its not like gamestop or best buy do it because they think its fun. If it's really an issue take it up with your local government.

Most of the Best Buy's and Gamestop's around my area have finger print scanners they have to use with trade in's.  Its not like this is something new, the ones in the Indy area have been doing it for the last few years.

Most of this is based on pawn laws in your area.  

 
I dont get this Halo 5 LCE at all. Now they're releasing it a week early but we still have to wait until 10/27 to play? If I got it early and could give me a chance to run through the campaign before the game is available for everyone that would a be a big selling point for me. Plus that statue looks dope.

I might just downgrade to the regular CE, or maybe see what the limited edition console looks like.

 
They just check ID for me, if you live in these areas requiring anything else vote down the laws that invade your privacy.

In L.A., Bestbuy takes your thumb prints, scans your DL and prints out a three page document for you to sign. At least that's how it is when I did my trade a year or so back. I know that's pawn laws not Bestbuy, but interestingly Gamestop does none of this. Because of this I never traded at BBY not because I think I'm being invaded but the sheer amount of time wasted on a trade in is not worth the extra credit that I might be getting.

Wonder L.A. Bestbuys are still doing this?

 
I'm not speaking from experience or any thing but I'm sure that the Best Buy employees are just collecting all of those fingerprints under the ruse of local pawn laws.  They're probably super imposing those fingerprints asap onto rubber gloves that they keep in the backroom.  They're most likely giving each other strangers with them when they go on break, that's why you can never find any one on the floor.

I believe GameStop is exempt because they are a specialty store.

You guys are lucky. My local laws dictate that you need to give fingerprints, photo ID, and a full body cavity search. At least thats what the guy at the counter always tells me when I go to trade in a game. I'm not a criminal so I don't mind.

even just three years ago I didn't have to show anything to someone when I wanted to trade in a game at gamestop. last year when I did a rare trade in (for some reason an assassin's creed game I had bought for $5 was worth $20) they required that I let them scan my drivers license.

If you have a problem with fingerprints, maybe you shouldn't be a fucking criminal now or later in life.  Or get mad at actual criminals who abuse the system.
