The day one edition seems to include all the DLC items, so the only thing you are getting in the CE is the steelbook / cards / artbook / box.  Seems kinda weak as far as CEs go, especially when you factor in the 20% prime / GCU discount you will get on day 1 edition vs no discounts on CE.

People who have played the japanese version also say the main story is 20 hours or so, but quite a bit of (repeat) grind post game content.  Dunno, not really feeling much love for the CE there but its almost certainly only going to be sold on the SE store, that seems to be their thing now.

Unless I'm missing something, you might not be able to get the Battle BGM for past Star Ocean games in the Day One Edition, only the Valkyrie Profile tracks.

So before I pull the trigger and blind buy what's the history on SE exclusive CEs? Do they tend to undersell and get clearanced or more often disappear? I know it's a standard risk but I feel like digital store exclusives for some reason or another have more often been overproduced and I'm more than happy to CAG this deal if it doesn't put me on the wrong side of a reseller markup.

That steelbook tho.

But is it really $110?

Cause if it is, that's kind of a high price for what it's bringing tbh.

But really looking forward to play this game.

It has happened on both ends of the spectrum so you never know. Kingdom Hearts and FF Explorers = rare. Dragon Quest heroes = not rare.

It's all over the place with the their exclusive SE. Some CE ends up being really rare, others seem to be abundant.

Drakengard 3 CE ended up being really rare.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of bonus content for $50 extra ($62 if you count the 20% off at BB).  But this is exactly the type of game I want to buy a CE for (a series I love).  I suppose I can put down the preorder at SE to be safe, then hope it comes to Amazon too.  Uggh.

Well according to Hajime Tabata (director of FFXV). They're looking into possibly making more Ultimate CE (not sure how that works if they allready announced a number as a sell point). And abuse orders will likely be cancelled

http://www.siliconera.com/2016/04/04/square-enix-might-produce-final-fantasy-xvs-ultimate-collectors-edition/
It was a pre-order though, so people are free to cancel and unless you paid with Paypal or a debit card, you haven't been charged anything, so the 30K number is not really something they need to worry too much about as some kind of limit. It's good to see a big company stand up to scalping, even as someone who actually got one during the brief pre-order window.

Well, preordered since they apparently don't charge. I agree this is high for what you get but I've always wanted to get into the Star Ocean games so hopefully this will make it worth it. I'll keep an eye out for early reviews in case it tanks.

Yeah, the other Final Fantasy CEs sure didn't go anywhere and I think they've occasionally gone on sale. Really, most of the store exclusive CEs don't sell out. Don't some even "sell out" then come back? I remember one of the Tales CEs popping back up in stock at a clearance price a year or more later.

I don't believe the FF XV sell out for a second. I will not be surprised when those end up back in stock prior to release, even if they don't increase the number of units produced (which I think they did for one of the Tales CEs, too).

This Star Ocean CE is supposedly only 7500 units according to that posting on the Playstion blog.

Same here. Uggh indeed.

Especially since it's Pepita and we all know how they are on handling steelbooks.

If they had done a Deluxe Edition for $80 with the steelbook I'd be all over it. $120 for that is too much for me I think. Hopefully it ends up on Amazon.

Yea I agree people are free to cancel but I doubt that's what SE wants lol. This thing was not cheap @ $269.99 and a big reason to justify its price was the limited to 30k advertising. If SE turns this thing into a Halo 5 LCE then most people who preordered probably wouldn't want it anymore. Anyways it seems unprecedented, I don't actually recall any CEs with a publicly announced limited production number ever had that production number changed.

Bandai Namco did it with the Tales of Symponia CE. It was announced as limited to 15,000 units then they later increased it to 18,000.

Well I guess adding 3000 additional units won't make much difference in people's minds in terms of collectability. As long as SE doesn't go crazy and turn 30k into like 60k but I doubt that'll happen anyways. Since I heard that the original reason SE came up with the 30k figure was the Noctis figure production can only be capped at 30k as the factory had other projects to work on. I guess at most they'll be able to squeeze out maybe another 5000 units.

It's a good thing if there able to make more ultimate editions for fans. There is a lot of people who wasn't able to secure a copy for themselves. I remember when I was watching the twitch streaming for final fantasy there was 70k + viewers watching the show. so if there able to make a few thousand more its a good thing. it only hurts us if scalpers get them. but I do wish people can get one as I love final fantasy.

The problem is, who can determine if they only made 30,000 FFXV UEs unless they are individually numbered which I'm not sure they are. Please correct me if they are. Anyone can say that they are making a certain number of an item but print twice as much and unless someone delves into their production or sales records, no one will know. Then they announced 30,000 to be made but nothing can stop them from saying "due to popular demand, we are printing more".

It would be a really, really bad idea for a business to be exact about the number of an item being produced and then go on to make a lot more.
Not really because many only bought this UE just to scalp so they are the only ones concerned about the number made. True FF fans bought this for the love of the series and don't care how many were made. I would love if they made 30,000 more so I could get one at retail.

You're focusing on just one release and missing the point. It could have legal ramifications and very negative long term effects for SE as a whole. Like I said, it's a bad idea all around. They gave a number, and they'll either officially change it or stick to it.

Decided to order the Star Ocean CE.

As for FFXV he said scalpers will "pay severely" or something like that.

Here come the scalpers!.. ready... aim....

So I guess companies just like to announce something is so and so limited because they want scalpers to buy them. What a dumb statement!!! Obviously you don't understand the mindset of alot of collectors.

SE should simply limit customers to only 1 or 2 copies on CE products. It won't stop scalping completely, but does it make it less enticing.

It's nice that they are considering adding more, but if they add too many, it will cheapen the CE and make it worth less in the long run. Dropping $270 on a game is a pretty big investment. I'm most certainly going to love the game. But if all the extra stuff only ends up being worth $100 because of an over-production, that would be a huge bummer.

The mindset of a true collector? A "true collector"buys something because they like it no matter how many of copies were made. So what you are saying is that a "true collector" buys something only because it's very limited? What a dumb statement

This exactly, think how all those Halo fans felt when they bought the LCE for $250 only for it to drop to $100 just two months later due to overproduction.

I'm making a dumb statement? Why do the most famous collectors in the world only want to collect super limited items? Are they scalpers too?

It doesn't matter if someone is famous or not. People who collect hot wheel cars buy mass produced ones all the time but does that make them not a "true collector"? Or people who collect Star Wars toys? Most are mass produced but yet they buy them. Are they not "true collectors"? Sure, many people also buy "limited" items to add to their collections but a "true collector" buys something for the love of the genre of what they collect. So yes, you made a dumb statement

Lol I didn't even say "true" collector I said mindset of "many" collectors. Learn how to read.

I'm making a dumb statement? Why do the most famous collectors in the world only want to collect super limited items? Are they scalpers too?

And if you read my initial statement that you quoted, I said "many people bought it to scalp" which is true.

Lol. You edited your initial post. You made a dumb statement and now are trying to back track.
Lol get your eyes checked, where did I edit my statement? It wouldve said edited so and so on there. On the other hand you said

"Not really because many only bought this UE just to scalp so they are the only ones concerned about the number made."

The fact that you said scalpers are the only ones concerned about the number made means you made a dumb ass statement.

Well, if I misread your statement, I apologize and if some only care about collecting something because it is limited, then maybe some do care about that. I do stand by that many bought this to scalp and some maybe bought it because they wanted something "limited" but also many bought it just for the love of the series.
