Damn it all! Saw the PS4 listing up and forgot about it dealing with other stuff. Checked it and sold out. Ordered the Xbox One edition but definitely getting the PS4 standard and swapping it out. Confirmation please come!

I'll be spending north of $400 on this game most likely. Watch it be the dud of all duds.

Seeing the gameplay, that looks pretty unlikely though, unless they brilliantly crafted all the demos and trailers to make it look way bigger and immersive than it is.

 
I really was hesitant given the fact that this game basically isn't an RPG, let alone a proper final fantasy mainline RPG game. This appears to be the death of the turn based strategy focused JRPG. It's also a stupidly expensive CE (overpriced) given they give you a stupid action figure instead of a proper statue. I did manage to get in on it though, got my confirmation email about and hour and a half later.

It's no less an RPG than Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, Dragon's Dogma, Kingdoms of Amalur, The Witcher, etc. It's definitely an RPG, it just isn't traditional turn based. I'm fine with that, I prefer action-oriented battle systems, I just don't have the patience to click an option on a menu and watch animations go back and forth. It has worn me down over the years.

It really is though, and i dont consider xenoblade to be much of one either (which is why they went that route, to avoid turn based), its a single player mmo basically, where most of the gameplay is AI, you don't even really control your party. There is room for those types of games, but final fantasy has nearly always been, and is often best fondly remembered as a turn based JRPG, a proper one. To me this game is a big slap in the face to long time fans, which spans decades. They want to appeal to the mindless twitch, all action or nothing generation of gamers, I get it. But people are rightly calling this game finalmetalgeargtawitcherfantasty. It's the death of the JRPG sadly. And the kiddies are going to absolutely eat this up.

Are you serious?!? With as many people that openly said, "DUH, I can't remember which one I ordered so I'll order another one," chances are there will be lots of cancellations so I would expect it to come back in stock (probably for 15 minutes, tops, at an undisclosed time).

I'm happy to have gotten an order for the :xb1: DE on Amazon. :D

Sheesh, this thing goes from being announced to preorders being put up and selling out, all within the ~3 hour span in which I had the nerve to not be constantly checking CAG for a change. Square-Enix sends me a billion emails about the new Hitman game, but they couldn't send one out for something like this that I actually care about?!  :wall:

Well, can't win 'em all I guess. Put myself on the waiting list, in hopes that maybe they'll make more or it'll come back in stock at some point before it releases. And at least I locked in a PS4 DE, which is certainly a lot more attractive price-wise while still satsifying my collector's/limited edition OCD. Maybe I just need to look at missing the UCE as saving me a good chunk of money!

I'm not. I agree, it hasn't been since ffX, I would argue FF9 was the last really legit main FF game. And there haven't been many mainline releases since then. 12 and 13? both of which were weird AI controlled nightmare's. Now square has officially said they don't want FF to be a real jrpg anymore essentially. They plan on butchering final fantasy 7 the same way, only in episodic pieces no less.

 
Guys, this is $quare-Enix we're talking about here. Printing these UCEs is like printing money. There'll be as many more as they can sell and they'll probably end up going for $99 on Black Friday.

If I'm wrong, I've saved $300 and I'll still get to play the actual game for MSRP. If I'm right, I get the UCE for a LOT less.

I guess I'm one of the few that didn't have issues with FF13 gameplay and thought it was the highlight of the game. I loved the constant action style but still being turn based gameplay. The game had issues but overall it's one of my more favorable FF games.

1. There are only 30k of the Ultimate Collector's Edition to be made ever. No more, no less.

2. This is a Square Store exclusive. You will not see it on clearance anywhere much less Square's website.

3. Just as you said, this is Square, and though their release dates are all over the place, when they officially announce numbers and supply, it tends to be right.

I understand what you are saying but you have to realize they gave up on the classic FF a long time ago. Bravely Default is about as close as you are going to get from Square-Enix if you want that original flavor. Best thing you can hope for is that the Mistwalker and Silicon Studios game ends up being a turn based JRPG. Classic FF is dead, it sucks but that is how it is.

Lol first of all, by announcing the actual print run of 30,000 as a selling point, they've pretty much eliminated any chance of producing more. It'll kill their reputation if they did. Also you might wanna check how they dealt with Kingdom Hearts 2.5 CE or Final Fantasy explorers CE in terms of them making more so they can make extra $$$. SE does still make some CES rare.

I bought the Final Fantasy explorers CE from them, is that considered rare/out of print now I take it? I got burned on dragon quest heroes CE when they slashed it down in price during there last sale, but explorers seemed to be gone gone when it ran through it's allocation.

What reputation, that of one of the greediest software companies in existence? I'd gain a LOT of my respect for them back if they kept the UCE legitimately limited, because they've screwed CE buyers over a lot in the past.

Let's not compare spin-offs with main games. Though FFExplorersCE goes for $130+, most side / spin-off games might not go for as much though those still go for big bucks. But take a look at main games and you see a clear difference. Kingdom Hearts 2.5 Remix CE goes for $200+ and FFXIII CE (PS3, no one cares about the Xbox 360 version) goes for $100 - $200.

I had no idea those were worth so much, I have all of them. I am especially surprised about FF Explorers though.

 
I'm certain there will be an overabundance of the $90 version. I'm in for that since it comes with the movie and a pretty sweet steelbook...but even if they were to make more of the UCE, $270 is ludicrous.
 
i kinda Pissed.  Only 1 day i sleep early is last night & now i waked up FFXV PS4 Version is SOLD OUT. End up pre-ordered X1 now.  Darn it Amazon why not put it up around 3AM, lol  Still bestbuy is my 2nd chance to get PS4 version.  This x-mas is expensive :)

I am not entirely sure that's an accurate use of that term.....that aside, I am a final fantasy lifer, so I support the less than stellar releases too. I don't claim it's all that rational though :)

Not gonna lie though, kinda wanna ride a chocobo in HD.

Got an order in around 9:45pm and square enix took .50 cents out but it is now 2am and no confirmation email.  :( Guess I missed it.  Anyways, I got the Deluxe Edition at Amazon pre-ordered.  Oh well

The Deluxes will pop back in stock for sure. The CEs may, but LOL at those being $99 at Black Friday. Not gonna happen for that CE.

Doesn't mean they won't sell the figure separately which is most if not all of the value at the moment. For ~ $300 CE, 30,000 isn't a small print run (same as the SF 25th anniversary CE).
