Not as many people missed out on buying the UCE as you might think.  There was very little backlash on our own forums over this item. People are only upset because it happened to sell out.  Many of those people only want it now because of what they perceive to be a premium value over MSRP.  It's a $270 game ffs that nobody would care about if it was still in-stock.  If they do end up doing cancellations on people that ordered more than two, you might see as many as 5-10k+ of that initial allotment back up for sale.

People always seem to forget that it's the perception of rarity that drives these markets in the first place.

I missed out on a pre-order and the rarity is sure as heck not the reason I want one. You're completely ignoring the fact this is a Final Fantasy game, and a highly anticipated one at that. Assuming people want it ONLY because it's rare is absurd. That may be the only reason you would want one, but projecting that onto everyone else is an incorrect assumption.

Has anyone received shipping notification on the One Piece: Burning Blood CE?

Doesn't seem to even have a shipping date either...
May 31st from what I can see. Probably going to be a while until you see a notification for it. Are you referring to the Marineford Edition when you say CE?

I'm sure plenty of people missed out like I did. A 30 min window isn't much. I'm a huge collector and I agree rarity can drive sales but I disagree with being upset when companies make more because buying game for rarity alone or for possible increase in value in the future is a risky game and you can't be surprised when you get burned.

I mean, I have some seriously rare things in my collection and I wouldn't mind if more of those things (I'm talking things with runs in the low 100s) were made if it allows true fans to get copies of things they want because they love it.

If anyone has a problem justifying the price since they're making more (and it could be cheaper) then hey should cancel their purchase otherwise the anger of "loss of value" is a little petty to someone who missed out like myself and just wants a copy of it or it comes straight down to concern for loss of resale value, which we know isn't s topic for this thread.

I can get why people feel less special, but you've got to be happy for the fans who missed out and have another chance to get something they genuinely want but missed.

I will also be picking up the regular edition at launch and a "Pip Boy" edition 6-9 months from release at my local Best Buy for ~$50.
Is it that time yet?

Never said that. Re-read the post and don't take things out of context. I bet you would have rushed to the SE online store to buy it the very minute you heard about it, had it never been advertised as limited nor sold out?

I hope you and everyone like us who are fans of the series are able to score a UCE.

Yes, the Marineford Edition is the one i'm referring to.

Kinda weird that's the Release, thought it was today, since that was the original date, or i'm mistaken?

My local best buy still has one on the shelf for PC. They also have 2 Elder Scrolls Online CE. Maybe no one wants them because they were destroyed by the dreaded spiderwrap.

As for the Final Fantasy XV CE... Yeah.... Pretty soon it will be "Limited to 100,000"

First, if Square knew rarity or limited numbers doesn't entice customers, they wouldn't have advertised 'LIMITED TO 30,000 COPIES WORLDWIDE' on the damn picture.

I'm happy that people will get another shot but I don't really know if I like the practice of advertising a limited number just to back down and make another ~33% a month later. I'm not in the business of telling people how or what they should spend their money on but if someone bought it because of that limited number that they were told...I tend to think they should be held to that.

I haven't been keeping up on this at all, did Square go back and cancel all the excessive orders? That's what they should have done. Every account should've been limited to 1 CE. That's fair. I mean, what is stopping Square from making another 10k if the new batch sells out? Don't know, just not a big fan... :whistle2:k

Yea SE lowered all orders down to max of 2 per account. Yea we'll see where SE goes with this. It's pretty obvious this new 10k batch will sell out in probably 15 minutes. Heck a good chunk will probably not even be for sale as they will be reserved for people on the priority waiting list. There will be more people crying afterwards that they'd missed out. Let's see if SE then decides to make a third batch or tell those crybabies that it's their own fault that they managed to miss out twice.

Your name calling is really inappropriate. This CE was offered in the middle of the night in some places for a very short time period and the website was unstable and many people who thought they got an order through learned after the fact that this wasn't the case. Others were able to order multiple copies thus quickly depleting the limited supply.

There are many people who have been long time Final Fantasy fans that wanted this who because of those factors above were unable to get a preorder in. Those people shouldn't be penalized because Square failed to create a reasonable preorder environment. Consumers should complain to publishers when situations like this happen and it doesn't make them "crybabies". I'd much rather see people make an effort to communicate their frustration and disappointment than call for boycotts or limit their complaints to web forums that few people read. If you don't like people asserting themselves, perhaps it's time for you to stop participating in discussion forums or social media.

It is incredibly stupid of SE to have put a firm number down. Compound that with stories of people ordering dozens (from what I've heard) it's a recipe for disaster

Did you just say crybabies was inappropriate? He's just calling it like it is. Complaining about something reaps zero benefit.

In this case, the complaints have resulted in cancellations of scalper multiple orders and the pressing of at least another 10K units. So, in this case, complaining resulted in an appropriate response from the publisher that will result in people having a fairer shot at actually preordering something they really want. As such, it reaped a significant benefit to people who would have had no choice but to pay ridiculous scalper prices.

I guess that's where our priorities differ.

You prefer money.

I prefer time and character.

Obviously this has been discussed now for the last few pages...

But I'm definitely disappointed in SE for backing down on their "limited" count of the CE. Good luck to all who still need to get a pre-order in. The things I want most out of the CE are the art book and additional blu-rays, and I suppose those will be available separately for much cheaper. So I'm hoping SE doesn't continue with the shady tactics...

If SE overproduces, I'm sorry, but I'm just not someone who is happy having a $30 statue on my shelf that I essentially paid $100-150 for.

Is there an official source for the 10,000 more number? Haven't seen anything specific from SE themselves.
This was posted earlier today. In this thread.

Worldwide according to their Twitter:
https://twitter.com/FFXVEN/status/723133163158028289
EDIT - You posted that... Isn't that official enough?

Amazon offered me a 30% refund on my Bravely Second pre-order DLC since they gave me the same line of BS about it not being applicable to the CE.  Time for chat.  Yay.

The 10,000 quantity was posted in few other articles and I believe it was mentioned during the active time report SE gave out today.

The good thing about this situation is that we don't have to choose. Everyone who complained about the situation will get to keep more of their money, they only used a tiny bit of time and they get the added benefit of feeling good about the fact that their good character in standing in opposition to a bad situation has resulted in a positive outcome. It's really a win-win for everyone involved.

Until the 10k of additional units sell out in an hour and everyone who doesn't get in on the SECOND batch then bitch and complain about it. :p
Yes I can already see this situation now lol. Then people will complain that these things should always be opened up for pre-order as long as people are buying them. Then once SE overproduce them and have to discount them at 50% off like Dragon Quest Heroes or Heavensward CEs, these same idiots will cry foul along with the rest of us cause they all paid full price when they couldve paid half price. But they asked for more to be produced.

I was awake but didn't want it, but it was kind of late to open orders.  Not really middle of day when most people are around so them missing is a valid complaint.  To me under 10k is limited.

Yep the same people that missed out on it before will miss out on it again.  You can't teach fools how limited drops work.

There were plenty of articles and posts saying there was going to be some big FFXV announcements the day before pre-orders went up btw.  Anyone who checked those livestream events or checked into the forums once during those hours afterwards that evening had no problem ordering.  You snooze you lose.

People are just going to get mad all over again when the next allotment sells out in minutes.

Any die hard Final Fantasy fan (which was SEs intended audience for the UCE) knew when the uncovered event was and wouldve tried their hardest to watch it live. And anyone with any common sense would know that they were gonna announce a collector's edition. So actually SE put it up for sale for its intended audience at the perfect time, which was 30 minutes after the end of the show. If you missed it due to work or other obligations that you had to attend to, well that's life. SE can't think of everyone. When an item is limited, someone has to miss out.

The crying over the FFXV UCE is rooted in the same psychology as all the whining about exploits in The Division right now.

It's basically "wah wah wah I got lucky and got something that nobody else has and I don't want anyone else to have a chance to get it too or I won't be special anymore!!!!!"

Actually that mentality, the need to have exclusive superiority over someone else or have something they don't have for the sole purpose of feeling superior is the root evil of the human species in general.

I stopped reading when I saw someone say "it was offered in the middle of the night in some places." No fucking shit, it's always the middle of the night somewhere.

The problem I see is with SE for allowing people to order multiples. I don't believe in a minute that 30,000 FF fans were there at release time to buy a $270 collector's edition. So many retailers limited an item to 1 with far more being available. So it's SEs fault for allowing people to order more.

30K is not last 30 minutes.  Extra 10K is 10 minutes + another 90K will last less than 1 day at local stores.  I sure SE will over print the Ultimate Edition.

I actually wonder, how many copies can SE print of this before it starts to become overproduced (as in sitting in their warehouses ready to be discounted). I'm thinking that wouldn't even happen at 100k copies. Die Hard FF fans are into the 7 digits worldwide.

Tales of Symphonia CE was overproduced at 15,000
Yes but tales is a very niche franchise compares to Final Fantasy, when looking at rarity of a CE, you can't just look at how many was produced but also how big is the fanbase. Most Tales games have trouble cracking 1 million copies sold worldwide (I think Symphonia only sold a little overy 500k copies). Compared to FF, which sells anywhere between 3 million to 11 million. SE expects FF XV to sell 10 million copies, it'll do at least 5 to 6 million imo. So just overall sales wise FF XV will probably sell 6X more than even the best performing Tales game. And if you times the 15k by 6. That's 90K right there. Then there's also the fact that the number of Die Hard FF fans willing to shell out extra dough for things like the collectors edition vs the number of Die Hard Tales fans is even more of a gap. Think about how much Final Fantasy merchandise are out there. Heck if you have a video game franchise that can constantly go around the world and sell well in your Musical concerts for years and years like Distant Worlds. Then you have a massive loyal fanbase worldwide.

Here, I'll put up a few more comparisons to put things into perspective.

Call of Duty Juggernog Edition - approximately 45k produced but in NA only. (One of the rarest and fastest selling CEs in the past few years)

Fire Emblem Fates SE - 23500 units were produced in North America alone, not sure of JP and PAL Fates SE numbers, but it's probably close to 40k total. Also one of the hardest and rarest CEs over the last few years. And Fire Emblem does not have near the fanbase of Final Fantasy, Nintendo would be happy if Fates sales worldwide cracks 2 million.

There's also Mortal Kombat X international CE which was Amazon exclusive (not the overproduced Coarse one that we got) - This one is serial numbered to 70,000. It was already very difficult to find at msrp shortly after release. And this is a game that has another more overproduced CE to compete with. Yet the 70k didn't last much past release date.

So there ya go, even at 40k FF XV UCE is still really rare when you consider supply vs amount of dedicated fanbase. This is why I'm not as much in an uproar as some others on here with SE announcing they're producing only 10k more. I just hope they don't keep pulling this stunt after more people whine once the 2nd batch sells out. People should learn the meaning of limit and how to be proactive when preordering these things by now.

I stopped reading when I saw someone say "it was offered in the middle of the night in some places." No fucking shit, it's always the middle of the night somewhere.
There was no reason for them to open preorders on the US store during the middle of the night, nor in Europe or elsewhere. They could have made an announcement that at X time on such and such date, preorders would be made available. Even a short window of notice and a reasonable daylight hour would have been more reasonable. It's not like the preorders had to be taken six months in advance following a streaming presentation.

I cannot speak for JP or Europe but again as I said earlier. I thought SE made the perfect time to put up preorders in NA. 30 minutes after an event that SE expected all die hard Final Fantasy fans to watch live. If your one of the few that had prior obligations then tough, thas life. Any time SE puts up preorders could be a bad time for somebody. 30 minutes after uncovered was probably the best time for most FF fans.

This isn't 1996, there is no real reason to watch a stream live when it can be accessed by true fans whenever and wherever. If you lived on the East Coast, it was midnight when preorders opened. That's frankly ridiculous. I would expect that people with $270+ to spend would have full time jobs and that staying up that late to possibly preorder a CE was not much of an option. Of course, none of this debate matters because Square has made the right decision and is going to produce more and reopen preorders at some point. While it might not satisfy everyone, it does prove to me that they are at least open to listening to their fans and also making good business decisions for their own bottom line.
