Official Doa 4 thread...

not sure if I'll make it. it's the last week of summer school and I've got some papers to write.

Sorry about the lag tonight guys, don't know why my connection acted up. Tuesday night should be a different story, though. I'll be on for a bit during the day and hopefully a lot at night. Maybe it's better if me or Scorch don't host, so can we find a new host for the matches possibly?

Things are usually fine when I host so maybe I can depending on when I go on tomorrow (though if Neo Geo Battle Coliseum comes, I dunno if I'll even play.)

Anyway, we did have some good matches today. Scorch is a bitch to play against though because his defending abilities are somewhat ridiculous.

I'll try to join in the fun tonight.

I was supposed to play LOTR BFME with my buddy last night before he returned it to gamefly. We tried, we tried, we tired got frustrated and quit because we could not connect online. After that I decided to just call it a night.

well, I've got As in my summer courses even I skip the finals, so it looks like I'll have some play time tonight and tomorrow :)

then I'll be on a lot this weekend! I feel a doa binge coming on...

Awesome. PM me or notify me on XBL whenever you feel like getting your ass kicked. I'm a bit better with the stick now, so I'm going to wish you the best of luck.

I'll be at a friends house playing some SSBM tonight until God knows when. I'd love to play some DOA though, especially after the tease known as last night.

i was on for a couple hours earlier, just practicing. i guess you guys play later at night. it's so damn hot in my room right now that I don't even feel like playing games...the 360 adds about 20 degrees as well.

btw, I forget if it was Roufuss or someone else having trouble with Hayate's raijin throw, but here's a good how-to:

gotta get the second part off before the launch, and the last part off before the first mid air hit. that third motion is the awkwardest in fighter history.

cool. I thought of it when I was struggling with that bitch of a move last night. took me a freakin half hour to pull that move off!

Yea, same here.

Sorry I haven't been on much, a killer ear infection has pretty much stopped me from doing anything... I'm on three different types of meds right now. I can barely focus enough to go through single player.

Is it just me, or do the costumes in this game really suck? There seems to be WAY too many palette swaps for dumb costumes, like 3 for Hitomi's stupid dress alone. Hitomi's end movie costume isn't unlockable, neither is Tina's... wtf was wrong with Team Ninja?

I wouldn't mind if they'd bring out some costume add-on packs ala DoA 3, but they have no plans too. I'm glad they put so much time into the gameplay but they seemed to piss all over the costume selection, which was one of DoA 4's high points, it's cosmetic delivery.

the costumes are pretty weak compared to DoA:Ultimate. then again, Ultimate needed all the cool costumes to cover up the fact that it was actually an inferior version compared to 3.

Hitomi's end costume...you mean topless with a G-string?

the biggest letdown is the missing kimono costume for Kokoro. it's in the intro, it was in all the previews, it's on the arcade stick decal...but nowhere to be found in the game.

Well, Hitomi's costume with the oversized T-shirt that covered her panties... could get lots of panty shots with that, it's assumed Team Ninja would have thrown it in =/

I mean, I was like "Damn, Tina's rocker costume is AWESOME", it's even on the freaking cover of the game, along with Zack's suit and Bass's biker costume.

I just wish Team Ninja would give us a costume add-on pack... I'd pay some points if they put those costumes back in. I'd rather have one of those than a bunch of palette swaps for the costumes... if it wasn't for the achievement for unlocking everything and me wanting the Tatami Mat for online play, I wouldn't even bother anymore.

Is there something special that has to be done for Zack to do his "love beam" taunt after a match? I haven't seen him do it in forever.

The numbing pain in my head has come back... but so far I only need costumes for these people before I have everything:

Helena (not so bad, only 2 costumes)
Gen Fu (ditto)
Lei Fang (ugh, 7 costumes total, at least it's in story mode)
Spartan 458 (time attack 4 more times... ugh).

I saved the worst for last, because I hate time attack and I hate Lei Fang.

one of these days I'm gonna unlock all that shit. if I get bed ridden or something.
I only use a few characters, so I never get costumes for anyone else.

speaking of which, what characters do you guys use?

Hitomi is my main, Kokoro is who I use the most nowadays and Hayate is who I'm currently learning...

I'm pretty much bed ridden right now ;)

I use Bayman / Leon, I've been working with Christie.

2Fast uses La Mariposa / Zack, Chacrana uses Kasumi / Ein / Hayate (I think)... it's sad I've played them both so much I know who they use ;)

Also wanted to add that even though Alpha 152 is a bitch, her AI is fucking stupid compared to other characters. She is heavily flawed in the fact that running attacks and charge moves will work on her almost every time.

I beat her perfectly as ayane just doing run + kick, as Ein doing down forward + Punch / kick, as Kasumi doing back + punch / kick, and as La Mariposa doing up forward + kick, and then doing the throw right after it, which works wonders because the kick will miss, but the throw usually connects for added damage plus ground damage to the floor.

Just stay away from walls.

Well done :applause:

I like Zack and La Mariposa because they are pretty unpredictable.

My secondaries are Christie, Spartan, and Jann Lee.

I don't play as Hayate, but I do play as Kasumi's awesome tits and the impossibly gay Ein all the time... no surprises from me.

Possum plays as Kokoro and Hitomi... sometimes attempts to use Hayate as well.
I like Bayman because once he grabs you, say goodbye to half your lifebar, same with his counters.
That's one thing I never liked about this game. Say if Tina puts you in the Sharpshooter, there goes about third of your lifebar; if you get hit by a car, it takes out roughly an eighth of it. I understand why it's like that, but it just irritates me a bit (mainly during single player).

The computer has broken out of my multi tiered throws instantly, even before I got the command down... so there has to be a way to break out of them quickly unless the computer is cheating.

What's worse is Tina's sharpshooter followed by the throw she can do to you while on the ground ;)

I finally unlocked every character, stage, and costume.

FINALLY!

80% of the costumes suck and aren't worth getting, if you were wondering.

wow... I suck so hard it's good. I am still trying to figure out who plays to my style and I can't find anyone ATM. I just wish power characters had a bit more power in their attacks. I still feel like almost every move does just almost enough damage, but that's what I get for playing too many Namco fighters.

Haha, I feel the opposite when I play Namco fighters now, I keep looking for the counters and all the DoA stuff.

The power characters do have plenty of power behind their attacks... which characters do you mean in particular?

They do have power, but probably nothing near what I want

I'm guessing my main problem is that the game isn't too friendly to people who play primarily "Power/Speed" characters. Ein is probably the closests to this, but he still feels like a washed down version of power. It's more like saying the power/speed characters lean more towards speed than power, while I prefer it the other way around (which Tekken seems to be overpopulated by ) My guess is that I need to spend some more time though before I fully judge this game. I'm hoping Hitomi, Ein, or Bayman fit my tastes but I am kind of doubting it. Plus, I really don't enjoy playing the ninja characters since I never got to use to all their movesets.

Rolento-- try out Hayabusa or Hayate for a while...they might have the good power/speed combo you're looking for.

I tried, and they are pretty well rounded, I just can't bring myself to playing Hyabusa (I have a problem not enjoying over popular characters  probabyl a disorder). I'll play around with Hayate a bit though.

Then you'll not like Hayate, since he's the #1 best character in the game, the most powerful character and in the top of the top tier... definitely one of the most popular. That is kind of weird though... I guess you'll be playing Lei Fang and Gen Fu if you don't like the popular characters.

Bayman is power in his throws for the most part... his multi part counters and his multi part throws are what gets people, and you pepper in some of his combo strings to get them to try and counter, at which point you throw down a multi tiered throw for big damage.

Bayman is really all about the mind games.

I'm slowly getting use to DoA's system now. It's definitly not as combo friendly as other games due to the counter system. I just beat story mde with everyone last night so I have all characters to work with now other tha Tengu, whom I doubt I'll be playing.

I actually enjoyed Spartan's style quite a bit since her damage actually showed itself (probably the first character I easily noticed good damage). The sad part is I can't stand anythign Halo  I guess you could say I'm in turmoil...

back to figruing things out now...

it'll be tough finding an unpopular character to use...all of them have their degrees of fame. except maybe gen fu, eliot, leon...

as for learning the game, the stun system is the most important thing to know right off the bat. that's where you'll get your combos and damage. Just knowing that and hit priority stuff could get you far.

anyway, I look forward to playing some more matches with you guys when I get back from vacation :)
