FAQs:

What if the price isn't accurate in store? Ans: Ask them to scan the title anyway and/or check the master game sales list online as my prices ARE accurate.

What if the in store game has no for sale sticker? Ans: Sorry chances are it isn't for sale, we usually leave a few for rent..but doesn't hurt to ask an employee Just in Case.

Why doesn't the online price reflect your price? Ans: Although it's one company and prices *usually* match..there are times when they don't or might be sold out. Sorry

Do games come with manuals/box? Ans: All games come with original artwork/case, but sometimes rental customers don't return manuals, so it's about 50/50.

What if I buy a game that doesn't work? Ans: All games are guaranteed to be in working condition. We clean all games before selling them. You can even replace games in the store that were purchased online! People have told me that the e-commerce site is very helpful also with returns/replacements.

What if my store is not offering the specials listed, is this YMMV? Ans: No this is not YMMV. Unless the store is down to it's last few copies of a game, it should be for sale. If they will not sell it to you for the price listed and/or you have continued problems with a store please check this link to help you out and help our company to improve. https://www.familyvideo.com/contact.php#q17

What do the numbers next to the titles mean? The numbers represent how many copies of an item a B&M store will protect for rental only. For example, if you see 4 copies on the shelf for rent and my listing has a (3) beside it, 1 should be for sale.
Listings with a (5*) means that there will be at least 5 kept for rent, but if the title is renting well the remaining copies may or may not be for sale, ask staff for assistance.

Grabbed a coupon as well, thanks. I've been checking this thread almost every week looking out for good deals so this coupon will be helpful.

I think the groupon thing is you're paying $10 cash for $20 giftcard.. so Splatterhouse would only be the cost of the groupon coupon

Splatterhouse is sold out as well. I bought it for that and went to buy it and a no go

Tried browsing through some of the posts but there's a lot of pages. @_@ How is the quality of their used games? Comes with original case and manual with disc in good shape? Just curious.

I'm going to just use my $20 GC on a 1600 MS point card. It cost $22 shipped, but I can't find anything better besides You Don't Know Jack new for $31 shipped. $12 overall is not bad. Probably will use the points on Pac-Man CE DX next week and the COD map pack.

I've had mixed experiences with games bought from family video. On one, the sticker on the game caused my 360 to make odd noises. On another it had no instructions.

Finally got my groupon last night - ordered a game, woke up, order says "Marked for Review". WTF? Its B&N all over again?? Or is this normal? I doubt it. Only used 1 groupon on the order, only ordered 1 thing on the account (or at all). Why can't I catch a break? :p

Mine order was in review for a few hours, but it's in fulfillment now. I think they just do that for every order, especially since they sold over 600 codes yesterday.

Ok thanks Munny. Just kinda freaked me out since I wasn't even able to use my groupon from B&N (my one, lone groupon, order went to "unable to process", had to ultimately get a refund from groupon. How lame). So when I saw this, it made me jumpy. Good to know it should be ok.
What amazes me about this place is that they're opening locations while competitors are going out of business. How does that work?
Could be the porno section in the back :bouncy:

Otherwise, no clue. Good prices on rentals, though. But these days I just netflix everything and even for a buck or two, I wouldn't want to drive to their store to rent anything. So yeah, good quesiton. How are they surviving?

I kind of wish they would have these in MN. The ones I've been to in WI have good deals on rentals and a large selection. They also have good deals on used games.

Even as a worker there i sometimes wonder how long the rental business will stay....but we have increased revenue the past 3 years ive been here....this is because everyone else is shutting down for one thing....and we get most new releases 28 days before netflix and redbox....a lot of people dont mind paying 2 bucks for a brand new release...and by the time those same rentals do come to the competition...we offer them for the same 2.50 for 5 nights...for the most part....and you know how America works...people want things now...and we have thousands of movies in store and get almost anything new that comes out where the others just get the major ones...plus we have (at my store at least) a large selection of blurays that are$ 1 for 5 nights...as well as new ones that we just lowered the prices on

Or maybe its the adult room ;) i dunno...until we start streaming stuff though...i use netflix as well through the xbox...i actually run into a lot of customers that use us in addition to other services instead of in place of...i think thats prolly how we stay alive too...kinda like how a lot of us have a Wii in addition to our major systems...just because...dunno

I guess to make sense for this forum the sales dont hurt either...we put new release dvd and blurays on sale usually within the month they are released for 10 bucks or less....i havent checked the sales lately...but at our store i estimate we have at least 1000 made a week just in that...

That makes plenty of sense...I used to buy a ton of DVD's from you guys because when a new DVD goes up for sale it is $10 when compared to Blockbuster it would be $15 and then if you wait a few more weeks you can usually get it for $7.95 or 3 for $21...and now that my stores have started selling blu-rays for $10 i will probably start buying blu-rays from there...it's a shame though that they dont have their slip covers :(

dunno why some stores choose to toss those, it's not that much of an inconvinience and people purchasing them enjoy being able to have them. Most stores in my area do keep the slipcovers, so I guess it's kind of just hit and miss....but if nothing else, i'm sure finding a slipcover some other way wouldn't be too difficult

One thing that bothers me about my local store is that they never have the manual for games. Ever. Are these thrown away as soon as they are put on the floor? This store even has the slip covers for blurays, why not manuals?

The manuals are usually put in the game rental cases so it just boils down to whether or not the people who rent the game return the manual. If my store gets lets say 10 copies of a game I put 7 or 8 out with the manual and then keep two in the cases so that when it comes time to sell them I can at least gaurantee that the first two people get it complete.

Again for those of you wanting games that are listed online I can attempt to help out if you send me a pm. I obviously cant take your groupon but can help get you the game your looking at for the same price it would be if you bought it online.
any new drops this week?
I believe updates come (if there are any) late afternoon on Mondays. So, probably will hear something later.

company usually sends us updates around 7PM EST give or take Monday evening. I try to get things posted as soon as I can after that, but depends on my stores business and/or my personal schedule at the time.

Just wanted to let you know that you're awesome!

Thanks for the update but nothing i want since i got the 2 or so new titles or not my cup of tea. I wonder since it is winter time more people play games indoors so that is maybe why the summer and fall was hot while the winter seems to be slow. It makes sense since they make more money on rentals in the winter. I know my habbits and i watch and play more in the cold part of the year.
Since you took Castlevania off the list, does that mean the chance of it ever coming back in stock is slim to none?
yah, the stores are considered to be sold out of them, while some people may still find them in stores, they are supposed to not be offered for sale anymore

damn, I was afraid of that. Thanks for letting me know.

:puke:

Received my Fable III today. Disk and case are both in excellent shape, no manual. Out of all my FV orders, this is the first time I didnt get a manual.

Okay, new updates here...some older high profile releases they are finally selling, may be a little late, but might be some good deals, especially for those who got in on the groupon deal.

Also I forgot to mention last week that there are a lot of (new) old titles for sale in store. We moved a decent amount of the main system titles to our Rent one Get one so they will be $9.95 to buy, and a lot of PS2 games to 99 cent rentals so they will be $4.95 to buy. For example we priced Battlefield 2 for 9.95, and Suikoden V for 4.95 So if you are looking for some cheap titles, or hard to find JRPGs, check out your local store. Cya next week

Another bad FamilyVideo B&M experience. Let me start off by saying I am a huge fan of FamilyVideo.com but the B&M' s leave A LOT to be desired. I've had nothing but good experiences with online purchases but on an impluse purchase I went to the local (Lockport, NY) store to see if they had a copy of a game I was toying with purchasing online but thought if I could pick it up locally I'd save a few $ on shipping. Well, the local store had the game and had it for sale at $29.99 despite the website having it for $19.99. Despite this I took it up to the counter and asked for a price check and mentioned the online price and said something like "I thought maybe you all hadn't had a chance to change the price yet" trying to stay friendly and non-threatening. The employee looked the price up online and noted the price but said they could not sell it to me at that price? In fact she said she couldn't even order it for that price?? Not being one to argue when I could get the game online I didn't put up a fuss despite the fact that the game has been on sale at that store at that price for many weeks and NOT selling a single copy as far as I could tell. As far as I'm concerned, if I can't get used games locally then there is no need for the local B&M and it's comforting to know a lack of customer service is alive & well in my little sleepy town too just like several of the other similar posts in this thread. For any CAGers in my local area...don't bother with this B&M most all the pricing is way out of whack with online ones and service sucks too.

Yes i been to that lockport one and man i will never go back there ever! I was there awhile ago and they tried to tell me the website price was an error. I said to myself why oh why did i come here. So anyways i grab another game that was on sale and i get the same answer... I said fine i will get some cheaper $10 games so i did not waste my money on gas. Well i get there and yet again same thing. This is when i broke down and asked to talk to a manager. I was told i was talking to one and if i do not like the prices i can go buy them at blockbuster or somewhere else. I was shocked and pissed at the same time. I found out by a friend that was not actually a manager and he still worked there the last i knew. The way they lie to cover up there lack of knowledge is bad. I suck at writing and i will admit this point. I just sick of being told lies cause they have no clue or just trying to not have people buy them or holding them for friends so they tell you the wrong prices. My one friend told me the one chain he goes to the guy does this so he has time to get a copy before it is gone.

I love the website so much but the stores i have been to wow F- rating all the way. I think they need to start hiring better people even blockbuster is more friendly then there local stores i have been to. I hate BB btw cause they tick me off to often.

yah I mean please use the contact form I have on the first post... if you have time to essentially copy and paste what you said it may help out people in the future as that gets sent to the district managers usually. I hope you haven't already gone through this process with no luck, but if you haven't, it would be a good place to start. Although I won't pretend to understand why people act like they do to customers...especially good ones...if they wanted to save a game for their friend or something, they should have bought one themselves, or at least taken it off the shelf...so I don't know how valid that argument is...but you shouldn't have to go into a store when youre doing nothing wrong, just to get the correct price on something.....I had the same experience at a best buy recently....so I understand, it's embarrassing to be harrassed by employees when it's YOU that's in the right....so good luck, and like I said...please contact them if possible, hopefully they'll make it right for you.

Just posting to give these guys some love.

As the op said mrright4you4now was able to help me out when the family videos in my area were sold out of NBA Jam. I pm'ed him through CAG and he got back to me really fast saying he would look in to it and sure enough I just recieved my copy of NBA Jam for $19.99 in great condition. Thanks guys.
Alright so what's dropped this week? Still hoping for fable 3
hah that's what I'm hoping for. I wanna use my Groupon code on it if it drops to 19.99

Guess that's a pretty common thing for them to deny price drops in store when they don't update their stickers. DM never got back to me about my local store.

Probably more than one FV employee has thought to pocket the extra cash when someone buys something for $30 sticker price and it rings up at $20 or less.. shady.

Hope this company is the next to go the hollywood video/blockbuster route.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. As far as them pocketing the money they would never get away with it. As a store manager we check every day what was sold to make sure that it was sold for the right amount. The DM then checks to make sure that we checked to make sure that everything was sold for the right amount and the RM then checks to make sure both the DM and store manager did their job. Same thing goes for anytime that a balance like a late fee is written off.

As for your DM comment with all the recent expansion there are several areas that do not have DM's because they relocated to help out in the areas that are just opening up so they might not have been able to contact their old stores about the issue or it might have just gotten lost in the shuffle. If the store manager isn't smart enough to be updating the stores for sale items then a part time employee that was trained by that manager isn't going to necessarly know any better. How long has it been since you sent the first email? If it's been over a week send another one instead of hoping an entire company goes under because of one idiot. I'm sure wherever you work theres at least one person that doesn't do their job right, doesn't mean your company should close up and fire everyone.
