This was posted about The Crew by a community manager earlier:

So, good news for PC...probably a little weak for consoles.

Also, I know how this guy feels.
Played the Beta for a short bit... just didn't grab me right away (I only played the truck part, then got to Detroit). I'll play it some more to get a better feel but it just didn't feel like a Forza Horizon replacement.

That guy must not have passed truck school.

Oculus should be shipping in a few days :whee:

Brandon and I played The Crew for more hours than we intended last night, haha. You definitely need to get into it further (the first part is a little boring before the game will really let you explore). I don't know that I'd call it a "Horizon replacement"...but I do think it does some things that we'll wish Horizon did. And in some ways, it might have better ideas than Horizon.

Definitely play it more and just go exploring. Look for a place on the map that interests you and go check it out. It was surprising how many cities they put so much detail into. Even places between cities that have landmarks are included (we were like "Oh, there's Pike's Peak...oh, there's Glacier Park....oh, there's Yosemite", haha). I think you have to complete the first couple missions in Detroit before the game will let you go exploring (pretty sure once you're shown HQ, you can do what you want). So, just get that out of the way, and then the game opens up a lot.

And congrats on getting your Oculus email! It'll be nice when I'm not the only person gushing about it, haha. :)

Since Horizon was mentioned: I have given thought to buying the game for $10 since I have some XBL credit, but sim racing games have never been my thing. I enjoy Burnout, Need For Speed, Blur, and Mario Kart.

I got Forza 1 and 2 because I wanted to try the customization and try to learn to enjoy sim racers. Both games were enjoyable, but customization was too hard and I could only do alright when using the racing line. Any chance I would like Horizon?

Horizon isn't really sim racing at all. It's way more arcadey. I mean, it has Forza Motorsport's car physics, but the driving is much more forgiving. It also has mini-games where you drive around on a golf course and try to wreck each other, haha. It is far removed from a typical circuit based, serious sim racing game. It's definitely worth playing...but it is 2 years old and on last gen hardware...so, how much use you get out of it is really up to you. The game itself is easily worth $10 though.

Thanks, Nate. I have checked out reviews, but figured I'd see what you guys thought. Then again, there will be an Xbox One demo for Horizon 2 in a few weeks...

That's definitely true. I will say, the first Horizon was probably one of the most fun racing games I've played in a long time (and we had several nights where 4-5 of us would be on playing the mini games...and we'd be laughing our asses off). It was almost perfect. And playing it will definitely let you know if you would like Horizon 2.

I guess the demo would too...but this would give you a much bigger variety of cars because some cars you will hate and others you will love (once you get an AWD car...like the Nissan GTR...or the Veyron...or one of the Lambos...it's pretty much the best thing ever, haha).

The one thing the first Horizon lacked was dynamic weather. And they're adding that for Horizon 2...which should make for an even more fun driving experience. The one thing I'm not sold on yet is the European setting. The first game took place in Colorado and had a really nice mix of environments, ranging from mountain backroads to little towns to suburban neighborhoods. Horizon 2 will be in Southern France/Northern Italy. I guess the map is going to be three times larger though...so hopefully there will still be a good variety fo scenery.

Here's some gameplay footage of Horizon 2 from Gamescom.

Just thought of an easy thing to sell Matt on Horizon. One of the most fun things to do is downloading custom paint jobs that people have made. There were obvious ones like Fast and the Furious stuff...NASCAR stuff, but then crazy stuff like South Park designs, superhero designs, there were several Batmobile designs, etc. I'm sure there are Green Bay Packers or WWE designs too. :)

That sounds awesome. The other big factor that comes into play is the fact that I will not be buying Horizon 2 at full price regardless due to the time it releases, so that means I will likely have to wait a few months longer to play that anyway.

Just to satisfy my own curiosity, I loaded up Horizon and did a search. There were 38 results when I searched for "Packers"...most of them actually involving the team logo in some way. And there were 52 results when I searched for "WWE", including a Daniel Bryan "YEScalade", lol

Haha, yeah, Alan...I was going to post a link to the PC Gamer article with those videos yesterday, but then I forgot.

http://www.pcgamer.com/2014/08/26/unreal-engine-4-architectural-visualisation-videos-are-staggeringly-realistic/

Apparently, those were rendered with just a GTX670, so not really an insane gpu (but it does also point out there's no moving soldiers, bullets, zombies, etc to kill performance). It doesn't mention what resolution it's at, but I would assume 1080p. Kind of makes you wonder if XB1/PS4 will be capable of stuff on this level after all. Maybe UE4 has some tricks up its sleeve because to me, the lighting and shading is what makes the jump to "photo realistic" territory. These graphics are getting scary good though.

Just wait till you get your Rift and can ride the UE4 demo room rollercoaster. It's pretty incredible. :)

Oh wow, didn't see the other videos.

And yah, like you said, It's crazy how lighting can make such a difference. You can have a photo realistic game, but if light doesn't behave like it does in real life, your brain knows something is off.

I'm actually heavily leaning toward making Horizon 2 my replacement for NHL. The only thing that would make me nervous is the fact that the first Horizon went on sale for $15 two months later for Black Friday. I don't know if they just didn't have any confidence in the series or what...but I feel like it would be crazy for that to happen again.

Even $30...is it worth not having for 2 months to save $30? I'm torn. It was really enjoyable...and if everybody's getting it and that becomes our "go to game" (even if we still played NHL 14 every once in a while), I'd probably get it at launch.

Forza games just consistently drop in price- even if temporarily- within a short period of time. It has nothing to do with quality, but they always go on sale rather quickly.

Alright, I got one of those $5 Kongregate coupons, so I might as well use it on NHL 14 this weekend. Anyone gonna be around Monday night?

I'm not sure about Monday yet, but I played through the entire Horizon demo and am in the process of downloading the full game and all free DLC right now.

Playing the demo has me convinced that it would be a waste of $60 to pick up 15. Too many of the same types of goals (really, hitting the pads sends the puck flying into the air over the goalie into the net) makes me think it's just a coat of paint on the same dilapidated house.

Gonna be a little late getting on tonight. I have the server up and running already if thats what the plan is. If it goes down or something, PM me

The ones I've encountered taking pics at games who are attractive enough to have Instagram followers are usually bimbos, yes.

Also, remember where in the country I am located.

Truthfully, it's not just the women here who display a lack of knowledge. They're just usually the ones doing the Instagram thing excessively. There are plenty of people out here go to games as social outings without necessarily caring about the game. It's only gotten worse since 2012.

How i've felt today:

LOL...just gotta start small and work your way up. Read the oculusvr.com forums and Google when you need to. They really made it complicated with the "direct' mode and the "extend" mode. It basically changes the entire way the Rift operates. The DK1 basically only had "extend" mode...but you could easily mirror from your monitor because the screen wasn't defaulted to "portrait". I think all these little things just add up to make it more complicated. It's kind of unfortunate that the DK2 is so much less user friendly than the DK1...considering how superior it is technologically.

If they can work out the kinks with the "direct" mode, though...I think it'll be fine. It's the switching back and forth and things not working as you'd expect that makes it confusing. If you could just click on a game like the "show demo scene" and have it work right away, it would be pretty simple. And I would imagine that's what developers will be working toward. The fact that it works so easily with Oculus made demos gives me confidence that the system they have in place is fine. Just gotta get everybody else up to speed.

I know everyone here is out on NHL 15 but did anyone read about how are they handling HUT between 360 and XB1?  Is it going to be like Madden where you can import your players one time from 360->XB1 or like FIFA where you will have the same team replicated on both consoles from the start?

If you are referring to last year's on 360 to this year on X1, I'm guessing it'll be like Vulcan said. I will confirm this in about 30 mins or so.

If you're referring to this year's 360 to X1, it's hard to say if there will be any option at all.

Yea, I mean how do they handle your MUT teams between consoles in NHL 15.

For example in Madden 25 & 15 you get a one time option to transfer all your cards from your 360 version to your XB1 version. All your cards on 360 remain but are locked to your account, the cards transferred to XB1 are fully tradeable.

FIFA 14 did it a bit different in that you had the same team on both 360 and XB1 and your coins etc were the same as well. So you were playing with the same players regardless of which platform you were on.

I guess unless someone has both EA access and Season Ticket it isn't possible to know right now, unless EAsports released info about it (which seems highly unlikely).

Yeah, my brain can't even compute anybody buying NHL 15 on 360 and X1...but I'm pretty sure you get a gold sticker from EA.
LOL, yea this game is going to be bad on both 360 and XB1 this year but I'm a glutton for punishment.
