For those of you who haven't done so yet, just post in this thread and I'll add it when I get the chance (or a mod, of course). Maybe we can arrange a time to all be online and swap puzzles?

So let the trading begin! Oh man...so many puzzles to be downloaded...

Picross puzzle trading guide:
1. I don't believe both people have to be online at the same time to trade puzzles. I think it works like this:
Jon adds Bill's friend code and logs on N wifi. Jon can't see Bill at this point.
Bill adds Jon's FC and logs on N wifi. Bill can see Jon now.
Jon logs back on N wifi. Jon can now see Bill as well.

Hope that makes sense.
2. You aren't allowed to edit puzzles you download.
3. You are allowed to upload puzzles you download to your own area. (The puzzle includes the original creator's DS id on it.)
4. You don't see the puzzle's name (or a thumbnail of course) until you clear it. You do see the number of stars, size, and mode (normal or free).
5. You may upload a maximum of 10 puzzles to your online area. You can delete some to make room for more of course.
6. TBD: Can you download puzzles from a friend that is in the Picross Challenge online mode? Need to test. This is moot per #1.

Does anyone know for certain that you have to be online at the same time to swap puzzles? If so that is very lame. Why does it have you upload them to your area if they aren't there to be downloaded at any time?

Also when you download a puzzle do you see the names of the puzzles from each friend and choose the ones you want or ? Because a few of the ones I've uploaded are better than others.

It appears so, although the problem may have been that the people I was trying to access just hadn't added my FC yet. Not sure on the actual exchanging and what it looks like, since I haven't done it yet. Hopefully I will soon, though, I'm trying to make some Metroid-themed puzzles :)

I've added everyone in the thread.

Here's the message you get when you try to download puzzles and none are found:

"Friend's name is on the Friend Roster, but could not find friend's area. Make sure your friend is connected to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection."

So that does imply that both have to be online in order to download a puzzle. Sheesh.

I guess it's following the same model as every other game, where you both have to be online at the same time to "play" so from that perspective it makes sense, I guess. Or do you not get puzzles directly from the friend, but instead from some third party location that they're uploaded to?

Well you upload them to what it calls 'your area' so I just assumed you wouldn't have to be online for your friend's to download them. How silly of me to think N wouldn't make it as cludgy as possible.

So what time does everyone think is a good time to meet up? Twice a week for 10 minutes? Once a week? evening/afternoon?
Tues/Fri would be a nice split of the week

I'll try to be online tonight at 7pm mountain time (GMT - 07:00 ) if anyone wants to try to connect to share puzzles.

I'm going to wait and see if anyone likes the puzzle I made before I start making more, so that I dont start spreading horrible puzzles around and wasting everyone's time :p

7 mountain time = 9 eastern? (So in about 20 minutes?)

I'll be on.

EDIT: I'm on now and I guess I'll just stay on for 15 minutes or so here.

I have 6 puzzles up.

Some are better than others. :)

I see somebody named 'Kyle' to download from but the guy has no puzzles to download. Weak sauce!

Goomba is the best. Lakitu is pretty good (but had to be corrected.) The rest are so so. Mushroom is fun.

It's actually in 1 more hour from now, but I'm hopping on now anyway so we can see how to transfer stuff.

EDIT: Wow my connection is giving me some atitude, I will continue to try to log on until I succeed! It never gave me this much trouble before : (

The lite is just sitting by me connected. If you get on with some puzzles make a new post on this thread and hopefully I'll see it.

I'd like to do a test and see if people can download puzzles from me when I'm on the Picross Challenge side of things. That would make the waiting a little more fun.

Welp, I'm logging off.

I'll plan to be back on Thursday evening at 8PM. Let's get some people on board!

This is annoying, I can't even connect to the place that I downloaded the puzzle packs from!. I think its something to do with my connection . : (
I will keep trying though.

EDIT: woohoo I got in, lets see if I can hold the connection on for a while : ) Woot! Im grabbing Wubb'and Kyle's : )

Puzzle packs? Where and how?

What worked for me was limiting my router's wifi to a 2 mbps transfer rate. It would connect most of the time before that, but since dialing it down this afternoon I've popped on 3 or 4 times on the first try.

You're on. Okay I'm hopping back on.

Sweet downloaded your puzzle. You can't see the titles so I guess just grab all the ones I made. Maybe I should remove the three that aren't as good...

The two good ones from me are 20x20. The best one is a 2 star Normal mode.

I grabbed them all : P I'll play anything! hehe. I'm getting desperate in that Im running low on puzzles that are new to me so any new ones are automatically great. :p

I cant wait to try your 4 star one!

I'll leave it on for a while longer for anyone else that wants to DL my 1 measley puzzle : P

For the puzzle packs, I have the UK version and they have released 2 mario picross puzzle packs so far. I'm seriously contemplating getting the JP version to get access to all the ones they released.

My puzzle's are under the name Khem

Also, if people could leave me feedback on my puzzle, let me know if it was bad or good, I can hopefully improve or maintain my future puzzles. : ) Thanks!

EDIT: 7:15pm and I still cant get reconnected. I think I have a tempermental DS :p I will keep trying until 7:30 to get back on.

I uploaded a metroid one. Its pretty good i guess. I don't really know cuz I havent compared it to anyone elses. Have Fun!

 Awesome! I could tell what it was about 2/3rds of the way through :) Just a really nice job. Worthy of being in the actual game IMO. Pretty damn hard to boot. I reuploaded it to my area so more CAGs can hopefully grab it in the future.

(Is there a way to copy the puzzle blocks over to the 'picture' bit so you can fill them in? I know you can do the overlay thing but I'm not too good at freehanding over it.)

Based on yours the 20x20 2 star normal mode of mine is comparable (I hope.) The 4 star free mode is not quite as good since it had to be corrected :bomb: It also would only let me choose free mode on it for some reason. (I would have gone with normal myself.)

Stupid value priced DS software. I totally impulse bought this at WalMart tonight. Oh well, Picross is a lot of fun :)

Make some puzzles and be online for me to download them Thursday 8PM EST!

etm42 - I'd love to check out that metroid one. Let me know when you ca be on. (Are you Eddie? I just grabbed one from that id.)

Yup I'm eddie so you probably got the metroid one. I also made a black mage puzzle (final fantasy) that I think is even better than the metroid one. I'll try to be on tonight around 8-10pm(eastern). Hopefully I'll have made even more.

P.S. I completed your mushroom and goomba one. The goomba was really good but the mushroom one was just ok, probably because you were working in the constraints of a 10x10 grid.

Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah the mushroom was me seeing what I could do with a 10x10 grid plus something that would be quick and easy to solve. I don't want to get too in love with making everything 20x20. The other ones (besides the uber hard 20x20 and the goomba you've solved already) probably aren't as good as the mushroom!

I'm working through the one I downloaded from you. Saved in the middle. Won't have much time for picross today and if I end up screwing something up and can't figure out how to fix it I may give up.

johnny was able to download some puzzles from me last night when I was asleep with the DS off. So maybe it is just that both people have to hop online after the FCs have been added (hopefully not even at the same time) and then you can download puzzles without each other being on. That would be nice.

Could also be that it allows you to download puzzles from somebody for a period of time after they've signed off.

I'm now probably going to be on at 9PM EST Thursday to trade a puzzle with Backlash. Does Thursday work for anybody else?

I have played all but one of yours Wubb and enjoyed them immensely. Fell asleep on the last one and I dont llike doing the save thing cause it ruins my concentration to start from the middle.

It's also good to hear you liked mine. I may try another 8bit hero for my next one. My free hand drawings never come out decent enough for a puzzle.

It's also good to know that both parties don't have to be online at the same time. Makes trading so much easier. Especially since my DS is being a little jerk right now in regards to when it feels like letting me online.
Can't wait to try everyone else's puzzles too!

For your picture on that one did you freehand it out using the drawing tools or is there some trick to copying the pixel puzzle over to that screen to then fill in color using the bucket tool?

If you freehanded it in using the overlay, I'm very impressed.

Glad to hear you liked mine! Did you fall asleep on the 4 star free moder? I don't think I'd have the patience to solve it myself.

Is it me...or does anyone else not like the 20x20 puzzles? It's not so much the difficulty..it's just it's a pain in the ass that you have to zoom in and out of sections.. :(

20x20 can get tiresome. It's hard to resist being able to make a larger picture though.

I just logged on (~4EST) and I was able to grab puzzles from everyone I saw yesterday and johnny (for the first time) who was able to see me last night. So it looks like you don't have to be online at the same time to download puzzles! :bouncy:

Here's how I think it works:

Jon adds Bill's friend code and logs on N wifi. Jon can't see Bill at this point.
Bill adds Jon's FC and logs on N wifi. Bill can see Jon now.
Jon logs back on N wifi. Jon can now see Bill as well.

Hope that makes sense.

So I don't think we need to coordinate times, all you need to know is if the other person has added you to the FC roster and then hopped on N wifi (probably have to go into the community section specifically?) And then people can post something when they've added a new puzzle.

daroga - I just added your FC and logged onto N wifi. If it works the way I think, you should be able to see me the next time you log on.

Finished the 1st one of yours etm. Nice job! The pictures you guys are doing are putting mine to shame. :)

Just put up a new one - 2 star Normal mode - that is pretty neat. (Modified it a little as it was a 4 star free mode only at first. Can't have them all uber difficult like that.)

Thanks for the confirmation, Wubb. I was hoping Nintendo wasn't that rediculous that they wouldn't host what must be extremely tiny puzzle files on their servers.

Let me know what you think of my puzzles when you're done :)

BTW, uploaded another Metroid puzzle. Damn it took a long time!

Alright guys I added all of you, and now I'm uploading some of the good puzzles I acquired from GameFAQs before the US version came out.

I connected via WiFi and uploaded a puzzle (nothing you guys would want) - how do I find out my friend code?

Edit: Nevermind, I figured it out.

Mine is
343704
119357

And I likely won't have any good puzzles. Still, add me sos I can get yours.

EDIT: Eugh. I can't download Yukine's because Yukine is not on. I really don't want to be on the internets facilitating simultaneous contact with strangers when I have about a dozen other games to play. Don't sweat it. Nintendo's internets is just a much bigger pain in the ass than I am willing to deal with.

I had to free hand it one pixel at a time and then wrestle with what the DS wanted to change to make it workable. So its not a pixel perfect port of Alex. Took me about an hour overall and then another 30 minutes to color as close to the original as possible.

I hope I can find a better/faster way to do the next one cause it seemed like more work then it was worth :(

Don't take what I said the wrong way about falling asleep. It wasn't because your puzzle is boring, it's that I always play picross right before I go to bed and play until I fall asleep : P If I know I cant finish it before I nod off, I will turn it off and start it fresh the next day.
Yeah it was the 4 star one. I'm looking foward to finishing it tonight!

He may not have added you yet. Wubb and I have basically confirmed that both users don't need to be online, we've both been able to download puzzles from each other while the other was offline. So, don't worry about arranging meeting times, because as far as we know it's not necessary.

Added Rolling Skull and infamy to the OP. I also started adding dates for when new people are added to the OP, so that previous users can tell who the new additions are.

I have him added... strange. Not that it matters because I don't have anything up at the moment, but that'll soon change.

And I'm "Kyle"... sorry for the confusion, my name is exposed. I downloaded your puzzles while on the can this afternoon, wubb.

yukine - wonderful!

johnny - Still partway through one of yours. I basically didn't have any time for picross yesterday. Great idea to add the dates on the end of new people.

Darn, I was hoping there was a quicker way to swap the picture over. The effort put in certainly shows.

And yeah I wasn't sweating you falling asleep :)

--------------------

I currently have up 8 or so puzzles I think? 1 of them is by Noodle and 1 of them is by etm. (So if you already downloaded all of the ones from those guys, don't grab it again from me. You can see who made the puzzle on the bar at the top.)

Man, I totally missed this FC thread. I'll have to add all the new codes tonight. I've got 6 or 7 puzzles up now.

How many days does it take to unlock all 5 daily modes?
How many days does it take to unlock all 5 daily modes?
I think it took me about 20 days to unlock them all.

Hmm, just logged on and I couldn't see anybody new.

Figured I'd be able to see hootie at least. Did you add me in hootie?

Maybe this doesn't work how we thought. :bomb:

Anyway I've added everyone in the OP and logged on N wifi.
