Official Picross DS FC Thread - Because you demanded it!

Do we have to be online at the same time initially before we can see each other or something dumb like that? Can you hop on right now?

I am going to add everyone in here later today, so hopefully I will be able to download some puzzles soon ;)

No, it's Andrew.

Heh, that's probably why! I can change my name any time, right?

Also I'm about to put up 2 more puzzles I downloaded from a guy on GameFAQs, they really are amazing!

Took me a while to find a copy of this game for some reason. Even yesterday, I had to specifically ask the guy at Best Buy to get them out of the back. He didn't know what I was talking about. The game's been out a week for Pete's sake! He came back with a stack in his hand, looking rather sheepish.

Anyway, my code is 326525 048969. I'll add everyone tonight.

Has anyone tried my puzzles. If so tell me what you think. I haven't got to many other people's puzzle's -- not enough time!

I'd love to, though it's not letting me download anybody's yet.

I saw infamyRISE this evening but nobody else new. (So I haven't seen hootie yet, dang it!)

I've done two of yours etm and thought they were both very nice. (I commented on one earlier.)
The Metroid and Bullet Bill. Bullet Bill was damn near spot on. :)

Also did one of johnny's
Belmont's Best Friend? Loved they way you did the chain on that one!

And I did one of infamy's
Egg block
That one was really cool.

I've added everyone that has posted a FC above this post. And I just logged on N wifi.

I completed your 10x10 wubb, very nice
mushroom.

Also I changed my name to "yukine" to avoid confusion, it's very simple to change your name in-game, and it also changes the name associated to any puzzles you may have created on your DS.

Thank you. I should do some more 10x10s. They take like 1 minute to solve. :) Hard to make anything that looks like anything though. :whistle2:k

So far I've seen 6 people show up and they are then always there. So it does seem like you don't have to both be on at the same time in order to trade puzzles, but getting that initial link is screwy.

I'm really scratching my head over hootie being able to see me and grab my puzzles but me not being able to see him. I doubt the name thing was the problem since I just put your numeric FC in my DS and not your name. Maybe you'll show up for me in a day or two? I read the manual's section on puzzle trading and it's pretty vague/unhelpful. Says something like "if you are unable to see your friend's area have them reconnect." Thanks Nintendo!

Hmm, you're sure the FC you entered for me is correct, right? If it is, I just can't understand why you don't see me, I have the feeling the problem is something simple, but I don't know what it could be.

I believe I must have entered your FC properly or you wouldn't have been able to see me. And I actually did double check it yesterday after you said you grabbed a few of my puzzles just to be sure. Yep, it's weird. I'm hoping you'll show up for me after you've been online a few more times or something... Who knows?

Unfortunately I won't be on WiFi for awhile, I'm taking a 2 week trip to Italy starting Monday, but this weekend I also won't have WiFi access.

Could it maybe be because I have the UK version of the game? This is just confusing.

Saw wubb's last night and downloaded them all, but haven't had a chance to play them yet.

Reminds me, I need to change the name on my DS from Steven to Tybee.

I'm jealous. Italy is fucking awesome. (Have you been before?)

I guess it could be the UK version of the game. Who knows? Don't sweat it and have a great trip.

Thanks! I've never been to Italy before, it's going to be a blast! I also forgot to mention that while I'm there, I'm going to fly to Greece for a couple of days. :D

And for the ~10 hour plane ride there and back I'll be sure to put some more hours into Picross. :)

Well first I'm flying into Munich, Germany to switch flights to a smaller subsidary of Lufthansa which will land in Naples, Italy. My uncle lives there because he is in the Navy and has been stationed there. He has a very nice house, I guess it's a villa.

I'm not exactly sure where in Italy I will be going throughout the 2 weeks, but I definitely will be in Rome for at least a full day.

Also, sorry for being very off-topic, I'm just really excited!

I couldn't decide how to do one of them without it looking bad
The bullet bill didn't look right when I tried to add bigger teeth. It's hard to do diagonals so the teeth made his mouth look like a swastika!!

Yeah I did notice the teeth missing, but other than that is was dead on. I knew what it was as I was getting near the end which is always cool.

We were in Tuscany last summer. Are you going to be in and around Florence at all? Visited a great vineyard in Chianti that I could recommend to you.

Thanks!

I'm slacking on Picross the last day or 2, I had a final exam and a friend is coming in from out of town, but I'm stoked that we have a decent # of people making/trading puzzles now. I get the feeling the original Picross suffered from a lack of replayability because of that, unless you waited 2-3 years between playing through it :)

Well, I can see three people: Wubb, Johnny, and someone else. Leeched all the puzzles. Excellent.

Whoever made "A Hundred More To Go," that is NOT four stars hard. Picross's difficulty algorithm is baloney.

I finally made a new one. It's under my name: Khem on the Friends list.

I have to say I officially hate the puzzle maker. I could have made an incredible puzzle, but it just wouldn't let me.

Took me over an hour to find a compromise that the puzzle maker would allow me to make.
It looks ok, but my original one looked soo much better.
I actually enjoyed coloring it more then making it ;)

Theme: Little Giant Robot! ;P hehe

I marvel at the people who can make good 10x10, 15x15 ones, I cannot possibly come up with anything that looks like anything on the smaller boards. I love the smaller ones cause they are nice and relaxing and don't tax my brain :)

Everyone's I have played so far are so much fun, even if I have to cheat and use the hint function.

Hope you guys like my newest creation!

I've put up a few new ones over the past few days including a couple 10x10s and a couple 15x15s. Mostly mario themed still. It limits you to 10 uploaded puzzles FYI. So far I haven't had to pull down any of my better ones. If you haven't checked me for a few days I think I have 5 new ones. All should be quick to solve, except one that rated out to 4 stars, not sure how tough it will really be.

Grabbed khem's (Noodle's) latest and it's another great one.

Both of infamyRISE's are really neat.

And I did another of johnny's that turned out to be the same thing etm had done. Interesting to see how they each did it.

Doing the custom puzzles is more fun than the included one for me. Always cool to see what sort of drawing is going to be behind the solved puzzle. :)

And I've added everyone's FC above this post and logged on N wifi.

I see these people in my list (and I assume it's all people from CAG.)

johnnypark
khem (Noodle Pirate)
Kyle (yukine)
etm42
daroga
Backlash (traded FC via PM)
infamyRISE
Dr. Stiles (?)
Steven (?)
Susan (?) probably Backlash's S.O?

I love the 10x10 and 15x15 puzzles, as I'm not very good and I don't like having to do all that scrolling around for the 20x20 puzzles. I think they should of made it so you could scroll using the d-pad, that'd be a lot more tolerable.

Sorry for not making any puzzles yet, I'll get started soon. Been a bit busy to play this, except for downloading and playing a couple of puzzles while on the toilet.

I still can't see hootie. If anyone can see him (hopefully someone from the list of people I can see) can reupload a few of his I'd appreciate it!

Yeah, the FC I posted in this thread will show up as Susan, who is my wife. She's the picross fiend in the family, though we call them Paint by Numbers from years of Games magazine.

Wubb, you can delete the FC I PM'd you, as that was from my DS and only my wife will be connecting from here on out.

Great news!
Today I was able to connect and it looks like the EU region is having a picross event. They are having a contest where you upload your best homemade puzzle. Then, starting the 31st of Aug until Sept 7, You will be able to DL the best ones submitted.

I will be more then happy to pass everything I can DL from the event on to you guys through my upload section. I'm sure Hootie and the others who bought he EU version can as well.

I uploaded my gundam one. You are only allowed to upload one per event, and I thought it was better then my Alex. Would be really cool if it got picked as decent enough to be included in the "best puzzles" selection.

I hope the U.S. version has something similar in the coming months. This will really keep the game feeling new and lengthen the lifespan of it considerably if they have lots of these events.

My code is 369474 155072 and I added everybody in the OP.

I've yet to play online at all (I'd probably get creamed) and I have no artistic talent whatsoever, so I don't have any puzzles up, heh. Though I have a few ideas I may try out soon, so I may have to force myself to do a poor job

I felt the same way, but it's kind of fun. If it's video-game related you can almost always find sprites of things, which you can refer to pixel-by-pixel if you need to. The puzzle I made of
Samus
used a 16-bit sprite as a reference, and I think it turned out pretty good.

BTW guys, I'm going out of town from the 14th-20th, so I probably won't be updating the OP much w/ new FCs while I'm gone. Just a heads up; I'm gonna download everyone's puzzles and do them on the plane :)

Yeah, looking at sprites from the old NES games that barely had characters bigger than 15x15 or 20x20 makes it a lot easier to come up with a decent puzzle.

Ah, so if you have the EU version of the game you get whatever puzzle packs NOE have up, Japan version and US version work the same. Why didn't they just let everyone see all of the puzzles and put a little flag to name them in English or Japanese or whatever? Bleh. You'd think they could at least be bothered to take the already completed packs and simply name the puzzles in English then slap them up for us in the states. :wall:

And yeah I hope the US does something like that too. Sounds pretty cool to me. I'd obviously love to check out anything cool you get from the contest. :)

Heh, I just saw the Event thing on the WiFi menu, I'll have to put together my pathetic artistic skills and try to enter something into the contest, but I really can't wait to download all of the winning Event Packs after it's over :)

my code is 360885 199777, and I will add all those in the OP. I don't have any puzzles uploaded yet since I just got the game, but I may work on some later on.

Hey!
I just added everyone who is in the OP!
If you are in the OP, then you are now sitting in my game. Ooh, how fun?
So please, add me!

I haven't made any puzzles.. but I'd love to download some puzzles from people!

Better double check that code lilboo. I got 'Friend Code is incorrect.' error message when I tried to add it.

Added everyone above this post (besides lilboo) Able to see alison and Radjago on top of the people I listed before. Grabbed all of the puzzles rad has up.

Did two of rad's puzzles.
The Earth
is very nice. Some of the middle bit was a little tricky on it and I must admit to using the overlay feature and taking a few educated guesses to solve it. I realized what it was by that point so it made it somewhat easy to guess. Neither of them were video game related which is actually a pretty nice change of pace.
