Just starting a thread for deals for the Playstation VR.

I picked up the Core bundle off Amazon and I'm looking for a cheap camera and move controllers.

I found that best buy has some cheap playstation 4 cameras on sale for 39.99 with free shipping.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony-playstation-camera-for-playstation-4-black/8245153.p?skuId=8245153

If you all know any good deals for move controllers or launch games, let me know.

Until Dawn: Rush of Blood (PS VR) $15.99 via Amazon (Prime Price). https://www.amazon.c...heapassgam08-20

I have the base tables and while fun and cool as a novelty, I can’t see playing them for extended periods. The graphics aren’t nearly as sharp in VR and that’s a huge hindrance for me.

Not unexpected but still good info. There's no way it could really match but I have a feeling that it's not even as good as it could be and there's probably not enough ROI to spend a lot of time optimizing it.

Looks like Firewall Zero Hour is getting an Aim Controller bundle for $79.99 like Farpoint did. Available for preorder via Gamestop, but I'm holding out for Best Buy in hopes for GCU to apply..

I'll wait to hear what people think about Firewall before just getting it at launch.  I bought Bravo Team at launch but thankfully reviews came out before I opened it so I returned it.

I played firewall at psx and for the most part, looked complete with a few bugs (white screen while selecting weapons, and slight jerk movement in selection menu).
I feel 100% confident this will be a great product. The lifespan worries me since this is a rainbow six siege online only game. Played great too btw

Oh if it's online only then I'm out.

A bunch of PSVR titles on sale, at least half of them showing up as Purchased for me. I'm too afraid to even click the links and look at the new prices...

Wipeout omega collection is amazing in VR! But I definitely need the comfort settings on, I was surprised it didn’t get motion sick more often. Guess I built up a tolerance once I knew the track layouts.

Anyone have thoughts on Apex Construct for $16ish?
I just noticed on the frontpage that Amazon has listed a physical edition for preorder. Check out those testimonials:

Personally I haven't played it and it doesn't really stand out among what I've seen so far.

Thanks to you and fatbot. The fact that it's a full blown campaign where you're walking around the world has me intrigued (even if it is via teleportation). Reviews are solid, not great and it's not even 50% off. At least I have two weeks to mull it over.

Edit: After looking at some videos, it does look like free locomotion is an option. That's a plus.

I'm borrowing this post from the other thread, but the VR titles I'm interested in from this sale are:

Apex Construct (a newfound interest)
Bloody Zombies
Digital Domain's Monkey King (seems cheap enough to take a chance on)
Shooty Fruity
Sneaky Bears
Space Rift: Episode 1 (not sure about this one)
Sprint Vector
Time Carnage
Wipeout Omega Collection (an obvious choice)

Can anyone talk me out of any of these?

when would the 20% off code drop?
No idea, but I feel like we're due for one sometime this month or next.

  • Apex Construct is a teleport only game, is slow, with a mediocre arrow shooting mechanic and equally mediocre graphics. It may have an interesting story but I didn't stick around to find out.
  • Sprint Vector is an extremely cool skating game that is quite physical and imo is mostly MP. Because of the physicality you really have to practice at getting better at it. there are single player races but iirc no cups or structured campaigns and also no character progression or customization. It's received good free DLC though and may have modest online community.
  • Wipeout may be the best PSVR game available. It has the highest quality image with extremely high super sampling to reduce aliasing, a huge track collection, and numerous comfort settings. It won't make you suddenly like racing I think but it genuinely feels like playing a videogame from the future.
  • Shooty Fruity is my favorite wave shooter at this point with the most polish. Haven't played Time Carnage or Brookhaven but own Mortal Blitz, Dick Wylde, and a few others. Its standing only but has decent weapon progression, variety, and is family/non game friendly.

None of the other games mentioned reviewed well enough for me to take a chance.

I think September is going to be a stacked month for game releases. I'm guessing one of them will get a live.playstation mission for a 20% off code. Probably Spiderman.

One could show up in the e-mails at any time, but towards the end of August I'll start checking live.playstation.

Thanks for the rundown. I'm thinking I might have to give Sprint Vector a skip because I haven't even started Sparc (and it's plummeted in price since I paid for it). I'm not a physical guy in real life, so I'm not sure why I think it will be any more appealing in VR. Plus, it sucks when you sweat through the band of your headset.

I'm probably going to take a chance on some of the more cheaply-priced titles. I'm still holding out hope for a 20% off code to lighten the burden.

Sneaky Bears is another wave shooter. It is ok, but not great. I'd say it is worth $5 or so. It is an easy one to skip if you are looking to avoid some of those on your list.

I guess the 209~ psvr doom bundle at Target on clearance is about the best deal I'm gonna find.  I'm still on the fence about the whole VR novelty.

I, and others in this thread, will attest that it’s no mere novelty. Two of the three friends I had try mine rushed out to buy one for themselves within two weeks, despite my urging them to wait for a sale on the hardware. Find the best deal you can, but definitely pick one up. You will also want a pair of move controllers for sure.

While it's not a novelty, the cumbersomeness (if that's a word) of the whole VR process and playing still makes it like a novelty, so I find that it has been reduced to things similar to a bread maker, fondue pot, and other things. Really neat, but also not nearly as convenient as just the normal plug and play stuff.

I definitely feel like PSVR isn't a novelty, but for me, it's certainly not pick up and play either. I don't get to play it nearly as much as I'd like due to cumbersomeness as well. I'm tired when I get home from work and the last thing I want is to wear a helmet and have an LCD screen literally two inches from my eyes when I'm lacking sleep. It can get sweaty in the helmet, even when in Winter, and it pushes my glasses close to my eyes (and I have long eyelashes that end up smearing oil all over the inside of my glasses, so I end up looking through an oily haze at everything in front of me.)  Plus, playing games that pretty much require a trophy walkthrough is tough since you can't look at your PC screen anytime you want. And anytime my girlfriend calls me, I have to pull off the helmet to answer the phone.

If I did't have those little annoyances, I'd be playing it a whole lot more than I do.

If you'd like to put on your tinfoil hat with me and wax conspiratorial for a bit I believe Sony is going to have a sizable PSVR conference at Gamescom where they finally announce dates for some of the 30+ AA/AAA 2018 releases supposedly hitting in the next 6 months. To put it into perspective that's about 3X the number of releases in the last two years of equal size. In conjunction I bet the days of play price drop becomes permanent or at least holiday pricing until 2019.

The fact you call it a novelty is a good indication that you want a lot of value in the traditional sense so my suggestion would be to find someone or someplace that will let demo a variety of content for 15-30 minutes. If anything to understand the physical impact VR can have on you. If you get past that, the overhead of setting up and using a VR kit, and a lot of these announced games get solid release dates, I think you'll be impressed and I bet PSVR will see substantial growth throughout the rest of this year and in 2019.

I'm with you on 5 of those 6 points. Guess which one I'm not with you on.

:whistle2:|

I've had PSVR for about 18 months now, so it's not a novelty for me. It's just a cool platform for unique ways to experience games that has a lot of potential for the future, but also has a lot of cool stuff out right now.

My wife thought it would be a novelty, then I had her try it by playing a few of the games on the demo disc and now she’s hooked. So much so that she pestered me to buy Dino Frontier. Now I have to share my PSVR time. Oops.

yeah same here, have tried playing a dozen games or so and besides some of the unfinished games and stuck with specific controllers dont hardly see a reason to use it, just played it for a couple of hours for mortal blitz, beat it and tried some others but didnt find anything that grabs you to keep invested in it, farpoint had me most into it, was reminded of how hot it gets wearing it so going to put off starting resident evil till it gets cooler, wish they wouldnt have bundled idolmaster dlc or at least make it alot cheaper, liked how jp had it mostly broken up for individual characters instead of buy all or nothing

well i wish more higher quality games used the aim controller, also just recently used mine with the first time using those 50$ clip on head sets, better that regular plug in ones and cheaper that the platinum sony ones but a little cumbersome when trying to put on the headset, well i dont have those same glasses issue that bad, more annoyed that i have to regularly reset my eye set on the ps4 especially when you get glare on ur glasses trying to do that, well one solution for you is to get built in nose pieces glasses and not the ones with the little wire pieces that push ur glasses futher from your face should give you an extra 1/4 inch to deal with

IMO, PSVR is worth it alone for 3 games - Moss, RE7, and Farpoint.  Everything else is a bonus.  Those are 3 of the greatest gaming experiences I've had since probably Mario 64 for the first time.

Ok. So I missed the sale a few weeks ago. But...I stumbled upon a skyrim bundle for 175. Looks like someone returned it, but it doesn't even look used other than repackaging and skyrim game opened. Had ps3 move controllers, but this was a steal to get updated ones too.

Rick & Morty Virtual-Rickality is...not good. It’s made by the guys who did Job Simulator, which I liked. But Job Simulator was one of my first VR games and as such I was able to overlook some of the glaring issues with it, like the terrible tracking. It had lots of charm and great humor. For some reason Virtual-Rickality is really lacking in the humor department, something that a Rick & Morty themed game should have had in spades. And also for some reason the tracking issues are just god-awful, even moreso than Job Simulator. It was so frustrating so often. There were two things they could have done to make it better. Sometimes I would drop something that I needed and it would be out of reach. There should have been a respawn system for dropped items. Or even better would be if they implemented a system like in I expect You to Die where you could grab items from across the room like you were using the Force. I was going for the platinum in it since there aren’t that many trophies and most of them aren’t too hard. But one of them glitched so I guess that’s not going to happen. I guess I’ll put it up on eBay. I did almost everything there is to do and there isn’t much replay value outside of trophy hunting.

I enjoyed Rick and Morty for the little time I played it since it is so short. I’m new to VR and after buying and trading it I got to play it for a few hours for $3. Regarding the platinum, like you said the tracking is bad so that large battery trophy is nearly impossible solely cuase of the tracking.

The battery trophy was really frackin' hard due to how quick you have to be. Somehow I got myself superfocused and "in the zone" and ended up crushing it after many, many, many failed attempts. I felt like I was accessing 100% of my brain power or operating on a different plane of existence or some mystical shit. (That and Cold Iron are the two plats I'm most proud of.)

The tracking was definitely the worst part of the game (not being able to rotate 180 degrees in-game and items falling out of reach). Here were my thoughts on it at the time: https://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/358225-official-playstation-vr-deals-and-discussion-thread/page-534#entry13984086

No matter how many times I reset the parameters of the VR I always had issues with the left most console which is also the most pain in the ass one. So I gave up after like 10 tries since it seems impossible when I can’t have the VR track me correctly. I was bummed since I like to plat everything I can.

I tried a couple times for the biggest battery trophy but only got up into the 30s. I gave up when I realized I couldn’t get the platinum. The only other trophy I’m missing is “you should be ashamed” but I made the Tape Tape Tape like 5 times and no trophy. I even have the other trophy for listening to all of the tapes. So obviously it’s a glitch

Forgive my novelty comment a few days ago.  I'm hooked.  So far only one game has messed with my head.  Really looking forward to Astro Bot.  The demo Robot Rescue is slick.

A while back a producer from Adult Swim came on reddit promising substantial movement and tracking improvements in an upcoming July patch. I bought the game on sale based on the hope that was happening which is not the smartest decision but might be good news if tracking prevented a plat.
