OFFICIAL Wii News Channel Thread. *OUT NOW*
Damnit, quote the other post that I edited!

It's on, I just never get any messages from Nintendo, not sure why. That's why I was asking whether or not I need to signup for them.

Edit: It doesn't matter much anyway, I just don't get why I'm unloved by Nintendo.
Look, Wii's just not that into you!

Alright, I finally got the glowing message indicator - about 6 hours after I had already downloaded the update.

Thankfully, the news on the News Channel arrives faster than Nintendo's spam.

My Wii is also linked to my mynintendo.com handle. I've gotten messages from Nintendo for both channel additions. So maybe that's why some people haven't gotten a message, they haven't linked it together yet? Possibility.
Ok, so I'm getting sick of this. Should I just reset, but it off, what? I don't want to brick the thing.
I came on here specifically looking for other people having problems with the update. Unfortunately, you're the first I've heard of with the same issue. I'm also stuck at around 90-ish% and have been for about fifteen minutes. It took only three or four minutes to get up to that, and it hasn't moved since.

Suggestions? Advice? Anyone?

It took me about 45 minutes to download the update. Give it a little more time.

I've had it going for about 6 hours! I'm cutting it off like Z-Saber.

Poop, too late.

After messing around with it some more and reading a bunch of articles I think Nintendo did a damn good job with this one. It's updated more often and seems a lot more useful than the weather channel. Here's hoping they fix what's wrong and make the weather channel better as well (all it really needs are more locations, more frequent updates, and to have the damn temperature or something displayed on the channel in the main menu).

This channel absolutely rocks. The news is very recent (I've seen a couple that were updated within the hour) and the presentation is both unique and provokative. It's one thing to read a bunch of news stories about the Bush administration; it's another to actually see how many stories there are, stacked one upon the other, over Washington D.C. In a way, it actually points you to where in the world the most important events of today are taking place. And to top it all off, there is an absolute TON of news.

Again, this channel absolutely ROCKS.

Well, I downloaded it last night before I went to bed. It took longer to GET the initial set of news stories downloaded than to install the New Channel itself. You people need to stop downloading in the middle of the day ;).

Oh, and my Wii is finally glowing NOW - well after I downloaded the channel.

I'm not sure how much has changed today or if anyone mentioned this, but I thought it was funny that the first Tech News story in the list last night was about the PS3 European launch .

Ahhhh... more Globementum - anything that promotes Globementum is good by me. I really had no idea they'd use the globe for the News too, but of course now it all makes sense. I have to show this to my wife. Maybe this is how I can finally get her to play video games (...deleted bad pun about my Wii here...).

Hope you have better luck than me, io.

I showed my non-game playing girlfriend the news channel (an entertainment story about Nicole Kidman, no less), and she poked around for about a minute and said she'd rather just use her PC to get the news.

Sigh!

Same thing happened to me this morning and I turned it off, it's fine now, but the update is still hanging at 0% on the progress bar. "Only" been on for about 5 minutes so far though.

And it just moved as I was typing. Now we're up to like TWO PERCENT. HOT DAMN!

Your girlfriend is smart. It's a cute feature but I can't imagine many uses for this. I don't need my Nintendo to get the news.

Took me about 5 minutes to download the new update at about 1 PM.

The news channel itself is about everything I expected of it and didn't want in the news channel. If I wanted to see normal news, I'd check out yahoo or some other newsite. The globe's cool, but it's not even accessible from the main news page.

Jesus. I've had it on for an hour and a half and I'm up to about 30%. If I didn't have another console to keep me busy I'd be really fucking annoyed right now.

I would turn it off and try again, but I already did that once today. I'm not playing those odds any more than I have to.

I have never had a problem with loading, and I do it right away too. Don't know why people get stuck a lot. It's always pretty quick with updates.

It should start out with the Globe, and have an option in the lower right to go to "Today's Headlines", instead of the other way around.

It's still pretty cool though.

FINALLY got it just like 10 minutes ago. Christ. I've been trying to get it done since I got home from work at 6, it's now almost 11 pm.

Everyone MUST read today's story with the headline "Mich. Mobile Home With 66 Pets Condemned." It answers the age old question "what's grosser than gross?" If you need more incentive, it does include two women sleeping together.

I downloaded it at around noon today and it only took around 5 minutes to download.
I really like the way the text moves around the screen when you zoom in and out.

No, my Wii isn't linked... so that's probably it.

Eh, my Wii might not glow from sexy Nintendo messages, but at least updating only takes me 2 minutes at the most. ;)

I started my DL at 11 this morning and I just left it on......didnt check how long it took but from my guess, it wasnt too long.

The news is fun to have around..
It's also in the Photo Channel.
do'h, never saw it there, but I've only used the photo channel once so I have that going for me
