I'm super happy with this news!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

only bad news is that it may be to select titles only and over time... hey, at least it's happening. I've wondered why sony hasn't done this yet since the tech is not impossible to implement for the PS3.

For this to be awesome, it obviously needs to work with games already released that only have Ad-Hoc... otherwise, why not just have Infrastructure if it's a new game?

I guess now I'll have to get DJMAX Fever if that's going to keep the ad-hoc mode. I've never gotten to try the multiplayer.
Ok, I think I understand this and it sounds pretty sweet. . . .
Same. Once I got the idea of it, I'm very excited now. :D

sweet! I like that I can get on PSN with the PSP..it was 100% pointless to remote play to get on PSN just to have to use a USB cable to transfer stuff to the PSP

wait, so is xlink kai illegal then???

anyway u doods better bone up on them DJ Max SKILLZ,

but I wonder about lag???

Good point, games that only have Ad-Hoc are designed to be played with minimal lag (as you are only a few feet away from the other PSP.) Now these games will have to connect to the PS3 and then connect to the Internet.

That's probably why it's going to be select games, Final Fantasy Tactics would work really well but a game like DJ MAX probably wouldn't because of the lag.

Awesome feature, however, it will be very hard to find people online to play. Only a segment of gamers will have everything needed to do this and even then it would be rare for them to use it.

I've tried it with FFT, works pretty well. Luckily for me my 360 is near my PS3 so it is really easy for me to unhook the ethernet cable from one and plug it into the other.

Only problem is that since it is in only in Japan for now, the game names tend to be in Japanese. I just happened to run into someone who had a game up in English... which are not too common yet.
From the second link Frisky posted:

the PS3 must be connected online with an ethernet cable and not a wireless connection

Lame. Well, looks like I won't be doing this then.
I noticed this too. If you got a Logitech Playlink or a wireless bridge, you could still do it.
Did this feature ever come to the states?
Not yet, but if you have a JP PSN account you can download this and it will work with some of the new games like Phantasy Star Portable. Basically if the game was supported at its JP release, the US version should be supported as well.

Xlink Kai is legal and its been there for years now. Kai does NOT require a fkin PS3 either. Sony fails @ delivering on-time/in a smart manner.
