OK, we know your a cheapass in games BUT are you a cheapass person in gifts, food, dates, or just a cheapass person overall?

Tell us your stories of situations that you were cheap?

Heres one: I had only ten dollars and it was my turn to treat a co-worker out to lunch (he treated me before to TGIF) so I asked him what he wanted to get he said a whopper meal would be good. So being a cheapass, theirs a burger king a few miles away, they have $1 whoppers and the meal was $4.65 (w/tax). So I decided to get him a small coke $1, fries $1, and a whopper $1 and myself a whopper $1 and the total was $4.37.

no, I'm just the opposite when it comes to other peoples gifts, I always buy the best model or brand. I always get burned thoughm example:

Bought my dad a top of the line DVD player a couple years back when they were pretty expensive. Gave it to him for christmas when I went back to visit him. I could tell he a) didn't know what it was or did and b) didn't want to give up his VCR. A couple months later, I asked my mom how the dvd player was working out for them, she said he took it back after I flew back home and bought a stereo with the money.

Instead of paying $5-$8 to see a movie, my friend always went to this Cinemark theater that only cost $.50-$1 to see a movie. Although, these movies tend to be a couple of months old and not run in the regular theaters anymore. We would usually go every week just after school and go watch a cheap-ass $.50 movie. We've seen both Matrix sequels, T3, and more. Plus, there's usually only a dozen or so people there so it's relatively nice to not have a packed theater full of noisy people.

Anyplace it is practical. I like giving gifts but not when they're expected such as Xmas. If I come across a pile of hardback copies of a book I really liked marked down to some absurd price like a dollar I may pick up a dozen of them for gifts. I did this with Terry Pratchett's Maskerade and Christopher Moore's Practical Demonkeeping. This inevitably became expensive for the recipients because they'd become hooked and have to seek out all the authors' other works.

I'm a fierce coupon shopper. I typically reduce my grocery tallies by 50% to 70% by matching coupons to promotional special pricing. There are many products whose manufacturers place coupons in the Sunday papers so often that you'd be insane to ever pay anything close to the normal price.

 Blasphemy

Actually my cheapassness extends to many things. I also am a cheapass when it comes to DVD's and visit the hot deals sites often. I try to be a cheapass when it comes to gifts too, but I just get them more for the money I would have payed if I had payed full price. Of course being a cheapass I tend to spend more because I buy more things.

It depends on the situation.
I can spend a lot of money on someones present if I see that one thing that I know will make them super happy. As for everything else, If Im eating out I normally buy whatever I want, I love food.
As for other electronics, I definently pull the cheapass card out.
And last but not least clothes, I generally go for the cheaper stuff, still somewhat good clothes but mid-class, not the Sean Johns and Abercrombies.

is anyone else reminded of the chris rock sketches from the tv show "in living color?"

"how much are the pistachio nuts?"
"three dollars."
"THREE DOLLAS? GOOD LAWD THAT'S A LOT OF MONEY!"
"..."
"how about i give you 30 cents and you let me suck the red off your fingers?"

I notice that other people turn into cheapasses when it comes to Xmas time last year. One person gave me the Exorcist 3 DVD which is $5.99 at Target. My gift to them was about $20.

Its not because the gift was so cheap that made me mad. What made me mad is that person didnt even bother trying.

im not a cheapass in any aspect, i pay full for new games that come out that i want, but for games that i overlooked for never got for various reasons I get off this site for cheap, everything else in my life is usually normally priced

clothes and shoes, cheap, not worth the expensive abocrombie prices, that and i don't like their stuff, i buy OP on clearance, at the mall or Kohl's.
Food, Hell Ya cheap. in the 5th grade on a trip to the Dr. Pepper Museum we had 5 bucks to buy whatever we wanted from one of 3 fast food places, only one had a dollar menu, i spent all 5 bucks, got a burger, drink, fries, chicken fingers and dessert. i had to pay the tax out of my pocket, but that's nothing.
Gifts
I hate on christmas knowing how much everyone paid on me because i scour the ads my self.
i feel bad because i know i got you this because of X deal. you paid full price because you couldn't find a deal, i'll always point out to family if something is on sale or there's a deal.
if the person is worth it, i'll buy them something nice at sticker price, with whatever discount i can get. not worth it, i'll find someting that does have a discount.

Same here. There's a rather old theater that shows 2-3 month old movies for about $1.50 for an adult. The place always has only about 10 or so people watching the movies at a time, so I actually watch most of my movies there.

im a cheap ass everywhere
i hate buying for example Food at the supermarket (like oreos for instance) when they are right next to the shaws brand for a dollar cheaper i grab those

I like to save money, but I do not take extreme measures. I have heard of people splitting double ply toilet paper into single ply in order to save money, as an illustration of this. My prof offered his grad students some random groceries before he left on a trip to california because he didn't want to waste the stuff, and the groceries included unusable stuff like 1/3 of a box of cornmeal, 7 lasagna noodles, etc. He also was known to openly regift stuff. People like this are truly cheap (and usually are quite proud of that), the rest of us are merely frugal.

Yeah, that's just sad.

Worse, it doesn't make any sense.

I am not really cheap, just frugal. I own several items that are relatively expensive, I just don't waste any money. If I want a game and there is no cheap deals for it, I will still buy it. I would rather spend money on things that are important like investing, education and life in general than things I don't need.
