not to say its a bad game or anything i like it and all but damn if they didnt "borrow" alot from zelda and i do mean alot in terms of levels and other stuff. the brush stroke stuff is awesome and id never have expected it to be pulled off as well as they did it and with as many as you get theyre all easy to remember. I also dig the sidequest things as well but over time alot of it does feel like deja vu
whether its digging, fishing( although okami fishing is way better), or fighting. even the minature level was like a litle pop to minish cap and didnt add much to the game.

lol true but im hoping the ending for this game is better than the one for twilight princess.

So what you're saying is that those of us who never played Zelda don't have to bother with it now. Okami gave us everything we need Zelda-wise.

zelda is zelda its just that after playing most or all of the zelda games okami feels alot liek them but yeah theyre right the battle system with all the brush spells and what not is alot better and if youre good enough battles can really take just seconds to finish ( random ones not boss battles). id say some zelda games if not all are worth playing but the latest one is a letdown ending wise. but 2/3rds of twilight princess was awesome.

and one thing okami does right that the last zelda didnt was the towns feel more alive and theres tons to do and find and explore. depending on how much you want to put into it is what youll get from it. ive put in 35 hours so far not counting but you have to exclude 10 or so of those because i feell asleep during the game a few times due to the dull text stuff.

I wouldn't say skip Twilight Princess, but I do enjoy Okami a lot more.

So you're saying it's a great game other than you fell asleep 'cos it was so boring? LOL.

lol yeah i know that sounds off but its true. its a very text heavy game and alot of times for me i know whats going to happen or its the kind of thing where you can figure it out without reading what theyre saying but you have to go through most of the text the first time. the game intro alone is seriously long and put me in the mind of alot of the metal gear solid cutscenes in length and though some of what they say can be funny alot of it is to me annoying.

but ignore all that stuff and you will love the game its fun and its got alot of great stuff in it and its got alot of side stuff to do in it. its one of the few games in a long time i am actually goign to a faq to check up on things for which means im either a shit gamer or the game has a decent challenge to it. i dunno if it has much replay value though but for the price i paid for it its worth owning.

I don't think it's fair to call Okami "Zelda with a wolf". The brush mechanic and the art style are two things that really set it apart from Zelda. It is not fair to insinuate a game copied another simply because some portions are similar. Nearly every game out there right now "borrows" from some other game. Using the same logic, I could say that Zelda Phantom Hourglass is merely a copy of Okami since it uses the stylus much like the brush in Okami.

A A A A, wait for enemy to stop blocking, A A A.

It's fairly standard action adventure battling... I didn't have a problem with it. Plus, Zelda 64 pioneered the "Z-targetting" that so many games use now-a-days.

and in okami, you don't have to wait for the enemy to stop blocking, because they never do

Very wrong. Okami takes everything Zelda does and improves upon it. Okami is what Zelda wishes it could be.

This is exactly what I said to myself when I first got Okami.

After playing it for awhile, I further amended it to include removing all the irritations and limitations that Zelda has accumulated over the years. Virtually every complaint I had about Twilight Princess was not an issue in Okami.

The only way it did not improve on Zelda is the difficulty. Okami could have been a lot harder without being frustrating.

And while Zelda is no slouch in the visuals department, Okami took what they did with WindWaker and made it beautiful.

I clocked around 25 hours into the game and then decided to stop. I was so frustrated by the annoying brush stokes and how it seemed to work half of the time for making the correct shape of the line. There were countless times where I had to fight a boss, only to have the wonky brush not work properly. This brings me to my next complaint.. I hated the stupid help out the warrior with your magical brush stroke part of the boss battles. Not only was this aspect unnecessary, but I found myself having to repeat the sequence again and again until I somehow managed to make the correct slashing brush stroke on the monster. In addition, I wanted to kill the annoying bug character because he was so annoying, especially as I had to read through long spats of dialog.

It's unfortunate that I didn't like this game because I thought it had great potential for fun. However, after countless annoying gameplay aspects, I decided to simply stop playing, without any remorse for not finishing the game. In addition, the story didn't make me want to keep playing to find out what would happen next. I'm so glad that I rented this title as opposed to buying it.
