so i'm getting hyped about buying this game. i've read about it for months, seeing praises and must buy recommendations.

the previous capcom/clover game viewtiful joe. that came out at 39.99 and dropped in price within a few months it was even worse with viewtiful joe 2 which dropped to 8.95 or so.

my thoughts is that okami is not going to be widespread and being the cheapass i am, i'm not really excited to purchase this at full price. do you guys think that okami may go the way as vj or possibly something like phoenix wright and become rare?

thoughts?

This game will sink like a stone because too many people are dumbasses and won't play anything that doesn't end in a number or year. I'd love to buy it at full price when it comes out but knowing it will drop in 3 months to $20 really makes me want to wait. I'll probably buy it though just to make sure I get a copy and support the developers - plus $40 is what ALL new releases should cost so I feel like I'm still getting a deal...

it's hard to say how they'll market this one. Getting it day 1 regardless...if they would stop freaking delaying it.

I couldnt agree more. $40 seems like the perfect price for this, and I'll be picking it up at launch.

this game comes out next week yeah?
seeing as how EGM is real harsh, their review on it was actually good.. Im just curious as to how the hell this game will play. :D -cant watch videos on my cpu-

nah, it comes out the 19th. It's an action/adventure/puzzle game similar to Zelda, but that doesn't do it justice at all (partially because the few hours I've played of this kill Zelda in just about everyway possible.)

for anyone who cares, here's a really good interview with the guy who did localization..seems they didn't change much at all and the game isn't censored.

Why do people make Zelda comparisons? Is there an overworld/underworld? Are there real maze-like dungeons to explore? Are there side-quests? A money system? Tons of NPCs? I get the fact that you collect the brush-strokes and they allow you to progress farther in the game (similar to getting the weapons in Zelda that open up new areas) but if that's it then why all the Zelda comparisons? Plenty of games do that...

actually, yeah.. there are alot side quests, a money system, environmental puzzles and tons of npcs.. it is very similar to Zelda, but I wouldn't say that it "kills" Zelda in any way shape or form.

There is even an annoying little helper/companion that reminds me alot of Navi

they keep pushing okami back week-by-week. for the longest time it was supposed to be released on 9/5. then last week it got pushed to 9/12. and now its been pushed to 9/19.
this is one of my most anticipated games of this year, though, so i'll be buying it day one.

ps. i also can't wait for god hand (another clover studios game).

Another Viewtiful Joe I would guess.

Ive seen the reviews and heard the hype and honestly I am not having high hopes at the moment. I will definately download it when I can but really am not expecting much.

Just another over-hyped, over-rated (by the "insiders") game that wont sell very well.

I hope I am dead wrong though because I would love to play something good for once. Not likely though.

Great article! Thanks for sharing it.

Are Americans really unable to deal with a name like "Kushinata"? I'm not so much complaining -- I am so glad we're past the days of Westernizing names -- but I'm just surprised at this.

yep, it's got all that stuff. it's pretty much got the layout and elements of a Zelda game. On top of that, there are some upgradeable skills...not quite sure how those work, but there's an upgrade and stats screen. Also, I compare it cause they have a similar mythological feel and some of the silliness/humor in Okami reminds me of Wind Waker.

I like it a lot better so far though, mainly cause of the art-style, combat system, brush-strokes, and the Japanese myth focus. but I was never very attached to Zelda besides the first game for the NES, so take that with a grain of salt.

No problem :) I was under the impression that they felt it would've been hard for Americans to keep track of all the full length names lke that, so they shortened them.

You'd think it be weird for a character to be named Dave, Jim or Bob when galloping around an Oriental landscape instead of driving around a city =\

Maybe it's the number of syllables or something, an average American wouldn't even necessarily connotate the word with being a name at all.

This game's been getting a lot of hype. The two VJ games got very little hype compared to this. Plus, it's coming out before the holiday season rush so it should get plenty of love.

hopefully. I don't think it has scored less than a 9 anywhere yet either...

I hope it sells well, but I'm not going to be buying it on release like I thought I would...I'm stopping myself at one new release for September, I need to quit spending so much money :p

one more thing, you really cant count on all games in the same series or games from same developer to have similar vale. ie Digital Devil Saga 1 is worth more than 2, Zone of Enders 2 worth a lot more than ZOE1.

true!

i've been watching more videos of the game and it's just so unique. it's sad that we don't get to play these niche games often. i'm glad that they're bringing this over as well as bringing the phoenix wright series.

i can't belive they've delayed the game again!

If you dont want it to go the way of Viewtiful Joe then purchase a brand-new copy of this intriguing looking title and support Clover Studios!

Clover deserves some major credit for creating a game that many are saying is on the same level of quality as the Legend of Zelda series. Now all thats missing is the "next-gen" logo on the box.... :whistle2:k

And honestly, with games this good coming out on the PS2 (and there's quite a few this fall), I have a hard time really caring about what the next gen has to offer.

Huh? What do you mean "go the way of Viewtiful Joe"? That series not only got an expanded port of the first game, it also spawned a sequel, and a party game, and that party game ALSO got an expanded port.... I wouldn't be surprised if Viewtiful Joe 3 is in development since the series is a trilogy. Can't forget it also got an anime series.

Okami will be lucky if it gets half the support from Capcom that Viewtiful Joe did.

The whole thread is about whether or not Okami will "go the way of Viewtiful Joe."

To sum up the whole "zelda" comparison in SAT analogy form

new 2-D Castlevania : Metroid : : Okami : Zelda.

I'm just saying that if Capcom stuck a next-gen logo on the box no one would even notice.

And personally to me Okami seems much more interesting than any other title for a next-gen system currently announced...

The way I read it the OP was "Will this get to be $8 in 4 months, or will it keep its value" and I read Rozz's interpretation as something completely different.

Oh... that makes sense too.

Same here, with yakuza , okami ,ffXII , DS games . I 'm set for games for quite awhile.Maybe enough for a price drop on a next gen system.

I'm still skeptical about this one. The whole concept of painting does not seem at all fun. Granted, I love Viewtiful Joe, but I'll rent Okami before I buy.

I'm remotely interested in this game but I don't know if I will like it or not. I'll probably just wait until it gets a price drop.

I played through the import version, trust me it's worth a buy. I know a good amount of Japanese so I got a lot of the humor and witty remarks, but they do a great job playing a lot of jokes just through the animations. It really is Capcoms "Zelda" even from the way the life bar / ink gourd system works. It's a lot longer than most Zelda games too, it took me 40 hours and 22 minutes to beat the game, and I really didn't do that many side quests. Great game and I really don't see the value dropping on this one till it becomes a greatest hit.

Right on man.

My GF is using my PS2, but I want to buy it at full price. I just like to show my support of unique different styled games.
Wait, it was delayed AGAIN?!

*sigh*...
Sept. 19th is the new release date. Which is good because I still haven't decided if I'm going to pay full price or just get it at a price drop. I have too many games right now so this one would just sit around for a while unopened. Though if it supposrt progressive scan, I would probably buy it on release, I'm really lacking in PS2 progressive scan games to play on my new HDTV.
