http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/127012.asp - Strange price and this game is new which is kind of strange after all these years and again, to have it at this price. Never played this one, but maybe somebody could drop a mini review on it or say how it plays like. the only review up on EB gave it a 1 star and it gets a 68% on Gamerankings which means it can't be that bad.
I played it a while back when it was fairly new on PS1, it was kind of a mixed bag really.
First off the graphics were pretty mediocre(even back then), and the animation was kinda lame for your character. Weapon effects and character design were also kind of blah, and if I remember correctly the controls were kind of frustrating.. especially during the platform jumping segments.
It's basically a 3rd person shooter/adventure game with a whole half life/area 51 storyline going, which was actually pretty decent overall. The voice work was actually pretty well done for the time and pretty funny at times(Bruce Campbell does the main character's voice if I remember right), especially when you are talking to/interrogating one of the NPC characters.
The coolest part of the game however(the part that kept me playing it) was that everything in the game happened as scripted regardless of if you were there to witness it. I don't wanna ruin too much of the story but basically you could hide somewhere and just listen to everything that was happening in this military base(over the radio etc.) or you could peek into a room next time you were playing and see it happen. Everything happened regardless of if you were there or not, with or without your witnessing it or not.
It's a really unique angle that I wish that some game developer would try again. Just a bit of warning though, this also meant that you had to die alot and learn to get certain things done before events triggered within the game to make it impossible/near impossible to do so. I remember it being a pretty tough game.

not the best game but it was a unique experience... maybe a 6 or 7 out of 10(back then).

Does anyone else's EB's hold the games they get traded into them for 21 days?

I'm starting to think it's just Florida, ever since they got in trouble for selling the lady's stolen games as soon as they had them traded in.

Went to go pick up Fatal Frame for ps2 with the 20% coupon, and they told me that they have one in the computer for being in stock, but not on the store floor, and that it's in the 21 day hold area... he wasn't sure when it would hit the floor.

But this is the same EB that makes you give fingerprints to trade in games, as well..

I really hope you're not being serious about that.
I really hope you're not being serious about that.
I'm totally serious.. last time I traded games there a month or two ago, they fingerprinted me as well as asked for the usual name / address etc etc.

I've got a feeling it's a Florida only thing... awhile ago, some kid broke into a woman's house, and stole her ps2 and all her games and sold them to EB, who turned around and put them all straight on the shelf.

When the lady went in a few days later wanting to get her stolen property back, she found out EB already sold half of it. Apparently Florida has some law where you have to hold other people's properties a certain amount of time upon receiving them, and EB skirted that law and got caught.

My story may be a little off, it's been awhile since I remember reading it. Just pissed me off that they had a Fatal Frame, but not sure when it comes out of the 21 day hold area... he even checked the hold area too and said that was the only place left it could be.

The fingerprinted is apart of the J.U.S. program...I don't know much on it...I just know they have to hold all systems for 30 days before selling incase they were stolen.

They take fingerprints when you trade games in your area? Thats just odd. Though I do see how it could be helpful in maybe a high crime area, but it seems like its kinda pushing it.

I don't think it happens too often, but I personally have seen this one dude trade in some obviously stolen items. I was browsing this EB I never go to, and this dude walks in and trades in a bunch of Gamecube 251 memory cards. The cards looked brand new, they had no stickers on them, and he was pulling several of them from different pockets in his pants and jacket. The guy must have traded in like a dozen of them for very little credit. He didn't have enough for whatever game he was trying to buy, and he just told the cashier he'd be back in awhile. Probably out to shoplift more shit from the Walmart a block down.

belive me you dont want to end up with something someone ripped off. I got a super nintendo system from pawn shop to resell the same day ( i had 10 snes games this guy would buy off me if i had a system) Well i had no system so i ran to a pawnshop and picked on up and told them i would sell it at my cost. Week about 2 weeks went buy and some cops showed up at my door asking me some questions about the Super nintendo system. It seems someone broke into someones house and sold the system to the pawn shop. I had to prove that i didnt have the system no longer in my house and i had to fill out some paper work saying that i resold the system.

now back to ebgames stuff

if Ebgames has paper mario for 20 bucks Remember get it price matched at BB or CC for 17 bucks (since its 50 there)

everyone good luck in getting good stuff early in the mornings the next few days. I got to take my cousin to work tomorrow and tuesday so the next day i get to join in on the early morning fun is only Weds and Thursday next week :)

So what seems to be the general consensus as far as what time in the morning they update exactly? I am in the Est. Time Zone.

7AM EST from what I've seen.

they probably take fingerprints because one of the stores in that area sold some lady's stuff that had been stolen like right after they got it. The news got hold of it, which is probably a big reason behind it

get online by 7am and wait till at least 740am before you leave. sometimes they update around 720-735am but its best to get here at 7am EST time so you will be ready

Most states have laws that govern pawn shops (which also cover EB-like stores, in most cases) that require them to hold purchased items for a length of time. The exact length of time varys from state to state - usually anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks.

I've never heard of requiring fingerprints, but the amount of information required to sell items also varies from state to state. Some just require you to give your name and address, while others require a valid state ID. I suppose its quite possible that Florida also requires a fingerprint.

Every time that I've trade in stuff here in SoCal they always ask for my ID...sometimes they copy down my ID number sometimes they don't...but mostly they have been recently.

the game was really freaking hard.. fun but really freaking hard.. but it does get flustrating.. play halo.. better game (it was First person shooter kind ) .. yes it was a "real time FPS" unique yes.. but definately very hard..( you basically had to rush through some of it.) so if you're the kind of gamer thats used to sneaking around and hiding and finding everything and exploring.. don't play this.

What sucks the most is that EB's computer will say "Yes, this used game is in stock at our store" when all that means is that it could be on the floor, or in the hold area.

The employee told me he couldn't tell when the game was traded in either, so I pretty much have to call every morning and ask about the game for the next 21 days.

I think they are getting a bit sick of me lol.
What's the big deal about the Tengen version?
It was two players, whereas Nintendo only had one player version and realized it was about to get PWNED on its own system so it sued to have the better version sent to exile.

But I still got my copy, so eat one, Nintendo!!!

For more clarification about the whole fingerprint and grace period for holding games. It only applies to trade-ins for cash. If we're doing a cash trade-in, you have to be over 18 with valid ID, wake take 20% off, plus we need your right thumbprint. It's such a long and tedius process and we ALWAYS explain it to the customer. Yet you still get a few who complain about everything we need, morons.

I love it though when you tell certain people you need a thumbprint and they just freak out. You know something is up with them. Their expression is priceless.

What's weird is that the EB here dosen't give cash for games at all, and they wanted my thumbprint just to trade stuff in for credit.

Some states have varying laws. Here, you need to be 18 and have an ID to trade things in, but some places ignore it. They're technically considered pawn shops under the law here.

Yeah same goes here. Each game store location I trade with requires a new agreement to be signed to keep on file.

Fairly recent drop: $9.99 new or $7.99 PO.
I'm not sure if this is news, but for those who plan on picking up a PS3 at launch, EB has Metal Gear Solid 4 set as shipping on 5/1/06 for $59.99. Yikes.
That's news to me. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, it was me this time; I generally buy one or two things to trade in every week... last week, I found a pair of Butt Ugly Martians: Zoom or Doom on Ebgames.com (what a name)... bought 'em for $4.50ish AC, and they trade for $18 each.
