Here is the most up to date compiled list of all known guide deals listed and posted for this thread and similar threads. I will update this list as people post new guide deals. Everything listed in this thread “should” be the price listed or lower. These prices are typically company wide price reductions and not YMMV. But just because the prices are typically universal does not mean that they are guaranteed to be sold to you. Most stores have a destroy clause with the guide companies. So whether or not you get these guides depend on many many factors from how diligent a staff is to how reasonable or friendly one is. Good luck on any you may find and good luck on acquiring them. If anything is incorrect or missing please post so corrections can be made.

Now you can just cut, paste, print, and GO!!!

How you can help: You can keep a printed copy of this list in your jacket, wallet, purse whatever and when you go to any store that carries guides look for guides for games that have been out typically around six months or more and ask for a price check or better yet use a store scanner if they are available. If they are anything less than cover price write it down for us. Also please when you post the info here if it looks like it’s a temporary sale, please post that as well otherwise it will be assumed to a be a permanent price reduction. If you scan a guide and it comes up a different price that what the master lists suggests please list the day and store that you had the guide scanned. Also please list if you physically saw a self-scanner’s price, physically saw a cash registers price or vocally heard a price from the store’s staff. This might sound like a lot and of course we will take what we can get but this will go a long way to having the best master list as well as ferreting out different store practices and policy’s. All help is appreciated and thank you.

Trading: I spoke with the post office and found out that the cheapest form of mailing to the 48 contiguous states would be to use “media mail” It will take a little longer but it will also allow the least amount of money per transaction when trying to acquire guides for your collection. For an average guide weight of about 9 oz its $1.42 cents. All you need to do is put it in an envelope and ship it media mail. He mentioned no one should have a problem if you use the same envelope several times to cut down on costs. He also mentioned that when shipping Media mail that you cannot have any personal correspondence in the envelope. Only books and an invoice are acceptable. If trading is in you interest you do whatever is most comfortable for you and your trading party this was merely a FYI and a good way to keep it cheap.

Helpful links to check for reduced priced guides or guides in general. You will likely never find one cent guides here but various discounted guides and possibly some that you have been searching for.

Looking for assistance: I am looking for some staff from Best Buy’s, EB’s, Gamestop’s and stores of the like. When EB Games or Gamestop has a price reduction their shelves can be empty in a day or two to even as little as just a few hours. EB and Gamestop have daily price changes so all depending on the store’s staff they could be all gone almost immediately. If I could get some staff that can either post here first thing any day that they have a price reduction on guides or that might be able to text message me with such price reductions so that I might be able to inform CAG’ers ASAP. Whether or not us the end user would actually be able to get them from a particular stores staff is very much an YMMV but if there is anyone who can help this would greatly increase the chance’s of CAG’ers being able to pick up guides from these locations. If anyone is interested and able to help please e-mail me at [email protected]. Thank you all for your consideration.

Thank you all for making CAG what it is and for all your contributions.

Disclaimer: This list is intended to help all guide hunters. Please feel free to print yourself a copy and get what you can find. Thank you

Master list in post 2

I'll throw someone $8 bucks for the Tales of Symphonia guide, shipped. Not bad for something that costs a penny, right?

I'm just desperate to get it since EB / Gamestop sold out of it long ago, and from what I remember it was a nice guide.

Holy crap, managed to actually get some of these latest penny guides from an EB while at the opposite end of town today. Even though they were still out on the shelves I could only manage to let them sell me a few of them. Didn't push my luck and grabbed one of most of the ones I could find (including the first FMA) since they actually showed me the list.

Here's an updated list of the EB Guides (* represents a few that I've added):
Advent Rising
Arc The Lad End of Darkness
BloodRayne 2
Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30
Coded Arms
*Full Metal Alchemist & Broken Angel
Ghost Recon 2
Half Life 2 (PC)
Juiced
Killer 7
Madagascar
Matrix Online (game)
Megaman X : Command Mission
Metal Gear Ac!d
Metal Gear Solid 3 Limited Edition
Musashi Samurai Legend
Myst V End of Ages (PC)
Pariah
Ratchet and Clank : Up your Arsenal
Samurai Legend Musashi
Shadow Hearts :Covenant
Spiderman 2
Street Fighter : Anniversary Collection w/ Soundtrack
*Stronghold 2 (PC)
*SWAT 4 (PC)
Tales of Symphonia
THUG 2
Unreal Championship 2
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines (PC)
Xenosaga 2 : Limited Edition
Damn, I tried to stop back on my way into my night class. But the manager was gone and the night guy didn't know anything. I check the dumpster on the outside but didn't see anything.
That is both the saddest and funniest thing I've heard today. :applause: I applaud your dedication to get something for free by sifting through garbage. Hope you took a shower afterwards. ;)

are these EB guide easy to get? do they throw it away first thing in the morning when it went pennied? I haven't pick up anything other than bestbuy..., thanx
Again, I am looking for the recently pennied Shining Tears guide, if anyone has one to trade.

Thanks
Where was the ST guide pennied out?

No problem.

I was just putting it out there, since there have been a few months' worth of updates, and we're at 80+ pages.

No rush in doing it, do it when you have time.
The other EB store - Has guides still on the floor. Bring them up, and the guy won't sell it to me. MAtrix Online the game was a penny and wouldnt sell it. He called his DM who obviously said they can't sell them.
As far as I'm concerned, if they have merchandise on the floor, it should be available for purchase. Their own fault if they leave it there.
When Star Wars Galaxies was pennied out, the EB rep told me that the games and software they won't sell. When it scans for sale, it changes from 0.01 to full price. The guides on the other hand, they can just hand over. I was able to get a stack today, but not all the ones I was hoping for. I'm going to try tonight at another store.

I got a bunch today at EB, all basically up for trade for ps/ps2 RPG guides.
Ace combat 5
Half life 2
metal gear acid
boodrayne 2
megaman X command mission
coded arms
ghost recon 2
vampire the masquerade bloodlines
street fighter aniversary collection with soundtrack
unreal championship 2
pariah

Cool . . . I stopped in today to ask about the guides. The manager wasn't in but one of the great clerks said the bag was still in back. So, while he processed #9 and #10 of my GT4 tradeins, I went through the bag and picked up a few more that I missed yesterday when the DM was around:

Advent Rising
Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30
Coded Arms
Full Metal Alchemist & Broken Angel
Juiced
Killer 7
Megaman X : Command Mission
Metal Gear Ac!d
Pariah
Ratchet and Clank : Up your Arsenal
Shadow Hearts :Covenant
Spiderman 2
Street Fighter : Anniversary Collection w/ Soundtrack
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines
YuGiOh 7 trials to glory
Dragonball Z: Buu's fury
Incredibles

Added with yesterday's haul . . . Damn good score . . . I need to get my tradelist in order

I have the following guides up for trade from EB/Gamestop

Unreal Championship 2 -x3

It changes from $0.01 to full price because the EB rep is manually changing the price.

It doesn't happen on its own, it's being changed manually. This same thing happened to me last night.

EB employee at the Melbourne Square Mall ( Florida ) took great pride in telling me that he pulled and threw out all .01 games and guides Wednesday morning. I mentioned that it would have been cool to keep them around for the regulars who might like to have them... he mumbled something about always throwing them out and went back to blowing himself behind the counter. I was a bit bummed since I have been a regular in that store for about 15 years and even remembered him having hair when he started... not going to shop at that store any longer.

Hpw does this work at Toys R Us?

I went like 2 days ago and saw many of the guides mentioned. I told the cashier to scan one(Jade Empire), but it still came out as $16. I just told her nevermind and left. I did take notice that it said 'promo' on the screen.

Does it work only when you actually buy it or does it scan in at .01?

Thanks in advance!

anyone try any of the Fort wayne stores?? i been way too buzzy coding Html and java for my stupid programming class to really go anywhere besides KB.
anyone try any of the Fort wayne stores?? i been way too buzzy coding Html and java for my stupid programming class to really go anywhere besides KB.
I tried the EB over on Maysville Rd tonight. I was only interested in the Shadow Hearts guide. He called his boss and said he could sell it to me for $5. The computer showed two which weren't there. He said they usally send them back. They also had a stack of all the guides, but the ones I wanted. I didn't get any of those since he would have stuck to the $5 price.

I got to get over to KB. I really want to get Otogi.

By the way slidecage, where are you going to class?

PMed for Mega Man X Command Mission.

Some more guides from gamestop have pennied out. From what I remember, they were...

City of Heroes
Matrix Online
Dragon Ball Z: Buu's Fury
Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors
Sly 2: Honor Among Thieves (old one but we still had it)
Halo (Prima for Xbox)

There were a few more, but I can't remember them.

Went down south for the day and picked these up while out:

Street Fighter Anniversary (w/soundtrack)
Advent Rising
Metal Gear Ac!d
Killer 7
Juiced
Coded Arms
Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30
Ghost Recon 2
Pariah
Spider-man 2
Unreal Championship 2
Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines
Musashi Samurai Legend

All are for trade (minus Musashi) - I am looking for Shadow Hearts Covenant, Xenosaga 2 Limited Edition, Metal Gear Solid 3 Limited Edition, and Tales of Symphonia. I would be willing to trade two of any guides I have (here or in my sig) in exchange for one of the guides I just listed. ^__^
YAY DUMPSTER DIVING - gotta sort thru what i got, was a big box.....
You my friend are truely a hard core CAG'er.
YAY DUMPSTER DIVING - gotta sort thru what i got, was a big box.....
I'd also do that, but the EBs in my area are either in malls or in little strip malls that only have one fenced in dumpster that is shared with the other stores and are very visible to a busy road. Both those strip malls have salons. I'm not that eager to dive for some hairy guides.

I hit up the EB in our old mall today - pretty much the only time I go to that one is to find guides, because the other two toss them as soon as the list hits. Well, actually one tosses, the other is run by a guy that takes them all himself & then trades them at our local Rhino for a profit. :censored: Anyway, I got everything I was looking for except the new Arc the Lad. My guide trade list isn't even close to accurate right now, but if anyone is interested in trading for any of these new ones lmk, and I'll try to update my list in the meantime:

MGS3 collector's ed.
Killer 7
Shadow Hearts: Covenant
Metal Gear Acid
Bloodrayne 2
Mega Man X: Command Mission
Vampire: Bloodlines
Street Fighter Anniversary w/ soundtrack

Oh, also swapped out my second GT4 there for Nightmare Before Christmas - it was a productive lunch break. :)

Went to two malled in EBs today. Pioneer Place and Lloyd Center in Portland, OR. Pioneer had none on the floor but when I asked nicely, the guy went back and got the guides I wanted and just gave them to me for free. I had bought three games as well. I didn't press him to give me ALL or MORE! penny guides. It's the best EB in Portland.

Then I headed over to Lloyd Center, to the EB of doom. (DigitalSpace and I hate that specific EB and never shop there anymore for many reasons) The last time I was there for penny guides, they kept them on the racks and gave them to me for free. So when I went up with a massive stack to hold while I find games to buy, I got called out. An employee and I took all the other penny guides out (like two feet tall stack with multiples of the common ones). I sweet talked him so much so I could get the three I wanted. I told him "a lot of people I know will be crying to see all these guides thrown out." They had 22 copies of Half Life 2 PC on the floor in the back since I saw the printout of penny guides they needed to toss (no new additions that isn't already in this thread). But I really could not take them all with me because I had a big backbreaking commute with the guides I already had.

I'm willing to trade out the Musashi Samurai Legend guide for Tales of Symphonia. The other ones I got are for me. Sorry guys. Get some tissues before you read the Lloyd Center lists below.

Tomorrow I'm hoping to hit two EBs in Clackamas. And there's another EB downtown but it's a pain in the ass to get to and the employees are dumb-butts. Heh.

Pioneer:
Myst V
Advent Rising
Pariah
Vampire The Massquerade Bloodlines

Lloyd Center:
Samurai Legend Musashi
BloodRayne 2
Killer 7

Other Guides Lloyd Center Had:
22 copies of Half Life 2 PC
2 copies of Arc the Lad
3 copies of Advent Rising
1 copy of Shadow Hearts Cov.
5 copies of Street Fighter Anniversary w/ Soundtrack
1 copy of Pariah
2 copies of Coded Arms
2 copies of Metal Gear Ac!d
1 copy of Killer 7
4 copies of Unreal Championship II
2 copies of Juiced
6 copies of Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30
1 copy of Madagascar
2 copies of Ghost Recon 2
3 copies of Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines
4 copies of Matrix Online (and 2 copies on the wall of the game)
4 copies of Myst V
3 copies of THUG2
1 copy of Fullmetal Alchemist and the Broken Angel
4 copies of Stronghold 2
4 copies of Swat 4
1 copy of Ace Combat 5

On an unrelated note, GameStop has randomly half priced their guides. I picked up Dungeon Siege II and Geist for myself. Half the price of their price on back cover. I'm an impatient girl when it comes to my guides.

If anyone has any guides they want to SELL me, PM me please. I don't have much to trade, but would be willing to buy each guide for a couple bucks (plus the combined shipping of course)

I DO have the following for trade though:
Star Fox Assault (X2)
Megaman X Command Mission
Coded Arms
Killer 7
Devil May Cry 2
Jak 3
Madden 200 (X5 :) )
Duel Masters Semai Legends (X5)
Full Spectrum Warrior (X2)
Killzone (X 4)

(not much, I know, but I usually can't find anything :( )

How about clearing up you stored messages, so I can send you a PM.

Hey Argyle,

Still have Shadow Hearts? I've got the new Arc the Lad guide for you if you do. It was the last copy at my local EB. Oh, and to join the chorus, your PM folder is full, by the way.

Finally found SF Collection w/soundtrack! Usually guides and other items which include bonuses like this are ransacked by stupid little kids who steal the CDs or DVDs.
Pookymeister1234, was all of that out of the dumpster or just the random crap?
The dumpster stuff was random crap down to the "Other EB stores:" part. So that whole list of guides is included =] It was just a big box full of stuff.

Doh, sorry about that. It's empty now, so PM away. I definitely still have Shadow Hearts (I have 2 up for trade, actually).

Its vendor specific - if it happens at EB, its only EB.
Shouldn't Monday be a .01 drop at BB since we're at the first of the month?

Keep your eyes on the BB web site this weekend.
Problem is, we're running out of guides @ BB to pick from. Only ones I can think of are that have been there a while:

GTA: SA for Xbox
Darkwatch
Halo 2
Rainbow Six Lockdown
Pokemon Emerald
Madden 2006
NCAA 2006
Sims 2 (PC)
Zelda 4 Swords

There's a few more new ones they've listed, though I doubt they'll penny out:
Shadow of the Colossus
Jak X Combat Racing
MK: Shaolin Monks
Ninja Gaiden Black
SOCOM 3
NBA Live 06
XML 2

Plus, Monday is the 31st, so it may not happen until Tuesday, or the following Monday. Also, the giveaway is always the guides that disappear from the BB.com website.

I stopped by my local EB and though they had the pennied guides on the counter by the service desk, they were scheduled to be pulped. D'oh. I may try some other stores in the area, too.

Yeah don't forget that last time, a bunch of PC guides like Pirates and Half-Life 2 dropped on Monday, and the console guides like Destroy all humans and Medal of Honor didn't drop until Tue or Wed. Realistically, I can only see Halo 2, that Pokemon guide that's been there for months and Darkwatch being the console drops. But who knows, BB have surprised us before...

Quick question just ot make sure -
I founf Street Fighter Anniversary Collection with CD today at EB in Tally, guy said it wasn't pennied out, but wouldn't sell it to me if it was. Are EB penny outs univsersal? If so I am calling a district manager and giving them crap for being lied to.

1. Yes, they are universal.
2. There is a good chance he wasn't lying. He probably didn't know and just assumed you were wrong -- after all, you are a customer.
3. Even if he did lie, complaining to the district manager isn't going to do any good. There are three issues here -- lying, customer service, and the policy on penny guides. As I stated, he probably wasn't lying, and even if he was, there is no way to prove it. From a customer service standpoint, he should have at least checked the price for you -- that he didn't do that is the only real complaint you have. What you are probably most upset about, however, is that you didn't get the guide for a penny (or free). They aren't supposed to sell the penny guides, and the guy told you that if it was a penny, he wouldn't sell it to you, so you really don't have a valid complaint about that. You can go on all you want about how selling/giving away penny guides builds customer loyalty, etc., and I agree, but complaining to the guy's manager that he followed policy is pointless. Take a deep breath, move on, and pick a better battle.

I had the dude ring it up. I dont care if he wouldnt sell it to me, its that he lied to me bluntly. Plus, in accordance with the COC, if the penny guides are on shelf as a sale item, they technically have to be sold. This happened to a friend of mine who called a district manager on Gamestop and they gave in once the guy stated he worked for the COC. The official term i believe is bait and switch tactic. Needless to say also, the guys attitude toward me wasnt that cool after he rang it up and said it was priced as maerked, and then he wouldnt put them on the shelf.

I personally don't think it's worth it to raise a stink over penny guides; not only doesn't it make you look a little silly, it'll just make them even more vigilant about taking them off the shelves in the future.

A strategy I've only had to do rarely is to buy a game with the guides. They'll usually sell you the penny guides so as not to jeopadize the bigger sale. Then you can just return the game later if you want (though in my case, I actually wanted the games I bought).

I agree it makes me look stupid, I just despise being lied to like that, and then that same person being rude to me, when I was perfectly cool with the person. Not a battle Im going to fight, just wanted to air it out.
