I'm probably the only person on the planet that likes this but...does anyone else dig the old blocky version of 3D? Two games that come to mind are Virtua Fighter and Street Fighter EX. By todays standard they look like garbage but I really dig the look. Maybe it was just a bigger deal then because 3D was so new. Although I definitely appreciate 3D as we know it today I still enjoy looking at the older jagged counterparts.

Screw 3D....

The early attempts at 3D such as Virtua Fighter on Sega 32x make me somewhat sick to my stomach these days. They're good for a history lesson but not a whole lot else.

The earliest attempt at 3D I know of is what I like to call the visible universe. It, too, makes me sick to my stomach.

Actually, the "early" attempts at 3D stuff predate that by over a decade.

The first game to feature filled polygonal graphics (not wireframe like Star Wars) was Atari's I, Robot.

Anyway, the most stylin' 3D is still StarFox. :D

I prefer GoldenEye's chunky graphics to today's uber-real FPS games. I just find realistic graphics boring. With low poly counts, you have to rely on style to make it look good.

I kind of like the clean style of them, too -- like Stunt Race FX for Super Nintendo. However, in my opinion NOTHING 3D looked good on Jaguar. ::shudder::

Did you forget the vectrex? I got one of those things. It's not polygon, but definately 3d.

Stuff like toshinden still is awesome becuase I remember that being my first encounter with real 3D graphics.. That and Virtua Fighter 2, and Daytona. I don't know why but every time I sit at a Daytona USA machine I still love the graphics. If I ever had an arcade machine in my house, that would be it. Xbox 360 be damned!

I'd never heard of this game before, but after playing it for a few minutes i can say that it looks pretty damn good for 1983!

I love 4D Boxing. It was the best game I could run on my 386/CGA monitor back in the day! That and a stunt car game. Stunts I believe, something like that.

[quote name='Heyricochet']No, screw all of your "fake" 3d. Virtual Boy is where its at.

OMG! That VB rocks!

Yeah, that isn't specifically mine, but I did the same thing to mine. SOOO comfy in comparision to the real stand.

Lots of customization compared to games in its time period. Remember the 1st person perspective mode? Sick!

Stunts was a great game. I can remember playing that for hours afterschool in our computer lab, just jumping the cars into near outer space. so much fun! :)

Unfortunately, the 4th dimension is color. Or heat. Or density. Or possibly time.

OMG, 4-D boxing... I played that tons on the old family Amiga. The copy protection was such a pain in the ass (I swear some of the stuff they made you look up in the manual just wasn't in there) but the game was quite cool.
