These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?

Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60.

No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

Put it up on Craigslist. Depending on your price point, you will get responses quick.

Bought mine for 162, 4gb included, wi fi only. Sold it for $180 with just the 4gb after owning it for about 5 months and getting some good use out of it. I decided to just put that money towards the Wii U.

Thanks guys, I will keep mine around for a bit. I have really no use for 3g so I was thinking of jumping on the Assassins Creed wifi bundle. That is is why I asked. Any places giving good trade in value for them other than putting it up on Craigslist (last resort)?

Guys good news. I just traded in my old fat PS3 today and I got $125 (I thought it was $115 because the offer says that). Anyway I went to my local Gamestop first and they wanted to give me about $80 because the sticker was faded on the controller, and also because Gamestop needs a fee to polish the consoles and clean them (seriously? That's more of their businnes not mine, I thought). Then I decided to go to other Gamestop located inside a mall, and they were more generous and gave me $125 for it, and they accepted my controller with a very faded bar code, so if that is your concern you can try it too =)

It seems that something like if they pay you less then the employees gets paid more? or get a fee or something? That's why one offers less than others when trading in? I don't know but try at different Gamestops if you are having problems with your local one too, cheers! :D

The problem is the employee/manager who waited on you. Some are complete nazis when it comes to 'company policy" while (most) others are more willing to work with you because they know how ridiculous it is!

Earlier this year when I was at GS, the kid in front of me was in there buying a used PS3, and it had a GIANT UGLY (and scratched to shit) TapOut sticker that completely covered the top of it. So not only did they take it in that way, they tried selling it that way, so each store is clearly YMMV.

Oh actually they are giving $125 for any PS3 model (I thought I got $10 extra haha). I remember that the female employee from my local Gamestop said that the special offer was $117, but that she was going to give me about $80 because of the console's condition (actually it was in good condition). So yeah, if there is a nice person probably you will get $125 too, try different Gamestops if not, so go upgrade your PS3 or trade in those unused consoles :bouncy:
 
Anyone trade in a ds/ds lite without a charger? I lost my charger and want to trade it in, but I was just wondering how much they'd deduct. If they took $10 off I might trade it for the $30, dunno.

Watched someone trade in a 4 last night while I was pilfering their cheap ps2 games. From what I saw and overheard the employee just turned on the phone and made sure it worked and was far more concerned about cosmetic flaws than looking up a serial. However they were busy at the time and like trading in anything at GS it's gonna be highly YMMV as to who checks what and enforces which policies.

When I traded mine in last month, they turned it on and went to settings to verify the capacity, checked for flaws and sent me on my merry way. Pretty painless.

My phone trade in was pretty rigorous. They checked all of the buttons, camera, speakerphone, and did a solid once over for physical defects.

Really depends on the employee. My iPhone trade in took less than 2 minutes. She swiped it open, looked at it, then clicked on settings to check the serial number.
 
I traded my iPod toward a tablet a while ago and she charged me a refurb fee for the scratch she made ripping it out of the case.

Yeah I traded a touch and a 30gb video and I know that both reps gave me a higher grade than they should have because they know me. It would probably be a good idea to trade those items to some one you know, who knows you and has a good rapport with.

Anyone trade in PSP games lately? I've got a shit-ton just sitting here (drive broke in the PSP and it never gets used) and would love to at least get "some" credit for them, but if it's like Best Buy's $.25 a piece they can go pound sand ...

Before anybody freaks out, I know the values on the PS2 games suck, but for $30 on the console I was willing to move on and just be happy. Plus I really wanted to get the 30% bonus without pre-orders and stuff.

Hey guys, since you guys are the trade-in masters, I need some input.

Im trying to get rid of some things I dont really use and I have an Ipod Touch 8GB 2nd Gen. However, there are some problems with my ITouch. First, it has a large amount of scratches on the back from usage over the past three years. My mom also dropped it a year ago and there is now a dent that is on the power button. It still turns on and off, but sometimes it takes a couple of times pressing the button. How much will the refurb fee be? How much do you think I will get with the 30% trade in bonus ? I might be able to get the scratches off though. Thanks for reading this and helping me out.

This is what I'm wondering. Mine has a lot of little scratches and nicks on the back and a few scratches on the screen. Other then that it works perfectly.

I'm still not sure if I want to upgrade to a new iPod touch later this year
 
I just got an e-mail for a +50% game trade-in promotion at a select store. If I'm not mistaken, hasn't this usually ended up indicating a universal trade-in promotion, or something about stores being located near a Best Buy? (The store indicated in the E-mail I believe is not far from a Best Buy.)
 
I'm still considering the PS3 swap (phat system for the new super-slim bundle). But I still have to deal with my son's locked saves. I can pay $18 to get him 3 months of PS+ (which seems like a total waste since I only need it for a few days). OR, I could just buy the new bundle tomorrow when it is available, do the Ethernet swap at home, then just trade in the old system for $125 instead of the $135 I'd get with the trade-in promo. So that costs me $10 in credit, but gives me the flexibility of doing the transfer first.

I could ask if they will give me the trade-in boost anyway when I go back to do the trade (since I'd come back the next day to do the trade). But they wouldn't accomodate me on the Wii U power trade deal - said I had to redo the preorder when trading and that wouldn't have worked since the Deluxe (which I preordered the first day) were sold out at that point. I remember back in the day managers had the power to override things and get stuff done for the customer - I wouldn't have hesitated to ask for the deal with this one manager (who has long since moved on from GS). That doesn't seem to be the case any more - oh well...

I suppose one way they may be able to accomodate me is to return my purchases system the next day, then resell it to me with the trade-in. That seems ridiculous but that is probably the only way to make it work without an override.

From what I understand, they won't even have the super-slim till tomorrow, right? So there are only 3 days of overlap between the deal and when they actually have the system. I'm not 100% sold on the slide top on the new system though - that is also making me think twice about it.

Yeah I got the same e-mail. Not bad there is also this promo. trade 2 get $40. Some games on that list have potential.

yea some arent bad but some are truly LOL worthy.....DOA 5? TT2? borderlands 2? those should at least on their own merit 30-33 though probably not bad with some other game on the list as im sure some of those fetch 4 dollars on their own.

Gamestop being the overly generous company that they are, they will take metroid prime trilogy over your hands for $20 in store credit!

Hell, just a year or so ago, DBZ:BT3 was going for a lot more than it is now, even. I discovered a few for $20 at a Wally World around that time, and was shocked at what they went for. New copies were $120+, and used ones were going for around $50!

Borderlands 2 fetches $40 alone at BBY. I'm sure the others do about the same.

So I want to trade in my Wii, but the problem is my wiimotes have the rechargable battery pack things on them, and I don't have the original battery covers

Will they still take it or do I need to find a battery cover?
 
Do you guys think next week's trade in promo will be slightly better then this one,i'm debating to use this tier trade or wating for something better,i have about 15 games i want to trade?

Go to walmart, buy any PS3, do the Ethernet swap. Sell yours to Gamestop, get the other PS3 model, take it home, do the swap again (Gamestop PS3 with walmart PS3, which should have had your old saves already), return the walmart PS3 to Walmart = well done. If you don't ever buy at Walmart, I must say that they are very generous when giving your money back, so you won't have a problem with it. However, they only offer a 15 days return process (I think) If you do all this before 15 days then you should be fine, cheers!
