These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value: $0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

If I buy a used copy of a game that requires an online pass for multiplayer, will it come with an online pass?
If you purchase a used title published by either Sony or WB you get an online pass from GS on your receipt. That's also why the used copies are $55 instead of $48 when the MSRP is $60.

No GS issued passes of games published by EA, THQ, etc. On those titles you're totally dependent on the previous owner not using the code.

It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

If any PS3 (fat) is $90 tomorrow then I am doing this but if not then it won't be worth trading up. My old MW2 Elite 360 would get like $130 with the HD so that is not worth it for an upgrade.

glad to be rid of my old XBOX 360 20GB with wireless controller for $55 base TIV. They gave me $3.75 for the 20GB HD. $113.75 isn't too shabby for an old XBOX I had sitting around collecting dust.
 
Yeah I just called and my 60 gb (fat) ps3 is getting $90 base. It is one of the originals (full ps2 compatibility) with 4 usb. I has been good to me but runs so dam hot and is a lead block. I think I am going to upgrade. I already have $44 in trade there plus I was planning to trade 2 games for $40. To get a new superslim for almost nothing out of pocket sounds pretty good.

I remember that promo... I believe it was 4 PS2 games for Gran Turismo 4 originally, then was reduced to 3 PS2 games for GT4. I believe GT 4 was selling for $40 at the time, so you were getting $10 to $13.33 per game. I would get a gift receipt and return the GT4 to another store for GameStop credit.
 
I'd consider trading in my 360 since I hardly use it anymore but what do you guys plan to do with your games that you have for a console you no longer have?

Trade them in at the same time? I feel as though that's exactly what gamestop wants so you get very little back for your games and then they can make a nice profit off your loss.

I'm thinking if I decide to trade in my console for this promo, I would just sell my games directly to gamers via Glyde or equivlent service so I can spread the saving around and get a bit more money off my games too.

Anyone have any bright ideas about the subject?

Cool. I typically try to monitor the separate TIV promo threads for values because people throw a fit when they get merged with this one. That and it's also no that hard to check a second thread. The past 6 months work has been kicking my ass time wise so my updating is like every 3-4 days anymore so I get a little behind, which sucks on promos like these. My internet traffic at the office is more closely monitored now too, as someone complained about my IT blog posts. Jerks. I'm working on starting updating right now. Hopefully by this evening we will be back up to date.

In addition to giving him extensive knowledge of the system, maybe this longevity also allows him to get away with stuff he otherwise wouldn't be able to. Good for him for going the extra mile and good for you for holding onto a business relationship like that.

I am sorry to report that I had no such luck with my local store today. On Sunday afternoon I traded in a slim PS2 for $30. Today I was told that the base was $20, bringing it to $40 with the promotion. This is the last remaining Gstop that I go to and I am on very good terms with the entire staff. The store manager and employee that were there Sunday were also working today. She was unable to figure out a way to make it happen, saying that GA pawn law prevents any item being returned to the customer and couldn't/wouldn't sell me a PS2 for $30 to do the same thing your guy did.

I get it and all, I mean store managers have regional managers and everything so I wasn't a jerk about it or anything. She also knows that this sucks for her regulars and was sincerely apologetic, mentioning that she thought it was crap as soon as she saw the sale info sent to the store on Monday.

So to sum up a too long, too familiar tale...
Gamestop screwed me out of 25% of what would have been my total because I visited their store 24 hrs before I should have, using a deal just for loyal Power-Up reward members.

Question for people in here, and sorry if it seems silly, but if the sticks on a 360 wireless controller are worn, do they take off any credit? I have a bunch laying around my house I really don't need and would rather trade them to GS than try on CL

Also, couldn't tell by reading back a few pages. Are all fat PS3s getting 90 for this promo? I want to get a Backwards compatable one if my GS has any and wouldn't mind doing that for cheap...

The game is currently on sale for $20 with used copies at $17 so I'd guess that has something to do with it.

Wireless Controller - $24.75 (9/27/12)

Is this still correct, can anyone confirm? Seems extremely high especially for gamestop. I traded a wireless controller in about a year ago and it was like $12 or so.

That was the old base of 22.50 with the 10% bonus. The TIV has fallen to 20.

that's what they quoted me without the 10% bump so I believe so, I couldn't see the screen so I'm not 100% certain but it makes sense since someone else said the 250GB slim hard drive trades for ~$47
 
Wait, so I can trade in an old white 360 without an HDD for $110 after the extra 100%? Gamestop only stands to profit $20 after that sale. I doubt I could even sell it for that much on Craigslist or something.

EDIT: And I can trade in my 160GB PS3 Slim for $190? $80 more and I can buy the new 250GB Slim Slim with Uncharted 3 for $80 more. This doesn't seem very GameStop-y.

I'm gonna trade in a ps3 slim 120gb but I'd like to know the minimum requirements so that I don't trade in anything extra by accident.

Is this everything I need?
1. ps3 slim 120 gb
2. component cables
3. ac power cable

Or, do I also need to trade in a dualshock 3? If I need to trade in a controller, do I also need to trade in the micro to reg usb charger cable or can I get away with just the controller?

You need both the DS3 + charge cable.
 
Can someone explain what exactly I need when I trade in my ps3? I don't have the component cables, is that okay? I only have the ps3, the power cord, the cord to charge the controller, and a controller. Is the $90 trade in value for all of the above items, and do I need to bring my controller in as well since the up directional button is starting to lose responsiveness and I don't know if they would accept it?
 
Will they accept my ps3 trade if I don't have the component cables? I would like to trade in my ps3 but I dorm on my college campus and don't feel like driving back home to get my component cables.

Nope you'll need the component cables. If not you'll be charged a refurb fee and wont qualify for the bonus. I made the mistake of only taking my HDMI cable and had to turn back.

Yeah, there is a lot of irrational hate for Gamestop on CAG but they do have deals like this occasionally. I was actually pretty happy with the $135 I got for my old PS3 on Sunday but then they went and bumped that to $180 (and luckily gave me the difference after the fact), But yes, you can get $110 for the old 360 and $190 for that slim 160GB PS3. I bought the 250GB UC3 bundle myself. FWIW, they sell the 160GB fat PS3 I traded (for $180) for $220 - so, yeah, not too much profit there. But maybe they count on being able to sell a warranty with it as well. But that's why I thought $135 was a decent price. Even $135->$220 is not all that much profit given overhead and such.

Just a minor correction - they aren't component cables. They are composite cables - as in the old-style yellow (video) and red/white (audio) low-fidelity standard def cables. Component would be for (pre-HDMI) HD. You can buy PS3 composite cables from GS for $7.99 used (or $9.99 new) if you want to complete the package for trade-in. Or if you are buying the new super-slim 250GB UC3 bundle, maybe they will be OK with taking the composite cables out of that box to apply to your trade-in. I can confirm that the new bundle still includes the same crappy, useless composite cables that all PS3s come with ;).
 
I think I'll trade my 320GB slim 360 hard drive in and put it towards Dishonored for the whole 30% trade bonus

that will be a nice bump up from the base $55
 
I thought i read somewhere on here, couldn't find the post to confirm it, that Gamestop would accept any ps3 controller with a ps3 trade in, even a cheap gamestop wired ps3 controller. Anyone know for certain?

I traded with a wired controller and it is the same value, they require a working controller, no brand specific or even original sony brand.

If its a dualshock it needs the usb cable, for a wired one just the controller.
